  1. Finally caught the Boardwalk season finale. Overall, it was a great first season, but the last episode was nothing special. Kind of your standard finale with the main character ending up on top, but trouble brewing on the horizon for the next season. I did like how Nucky asked for and received a cool 1 million cash from Rothstein to bribe the Chicago DA like it was no big deal. But nothing beats Van Alden getting Nucky's old GF pregnant. That was oustanding!
  2. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) Urban Meyer stepping down. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5899478 He'll be back by mid-January.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) Is there another version of J4L I'm not aware of? I thought I had read a post about 10:45 AM this morning where he said he was already buzzed? Unless I'm mixing up my methods of inebriation.
  4. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) I'm basically saying that the extra 6M in 2013 is worth it to me if it means I'm getting the better player. PK does his damage against AL pitching. Lee should do better against NL pitching if he's going to be my 1B on a championship team. Just wondering, why exactly is it harder to hit AL pitching than NL pitching? The talent is just as good, if not better, in the NL.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) God I'm so sick of this crap. I get it's a factor when talking pitchers. But it means absolutely nothing for hitters. LOL. I don't have the time nor patience to compare the two leagues as a whole, but its entirely possible that its easier to hit in the AL, just cause the overall pitching talent may not be as good.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) So he'll get the women, eh? With an Australian accent? Of course.
  7. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) I think that would be correct since the only opening-day no-hitter happened against the Sox. And an opening-day no-hitter would have to be about the only way this is possible, right? That's correct. 1940 White Sox no-hit by Bob Feller on Opening Day.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) RT @Jordan4Life I f***ing hate Twitter so much. Thanks, I really need to start following him!
  9. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Score just said, via somewhere else, that the Nats are trying to sign Cliff Lee for 7 yrs/$200M. Yikes. LOL, that would be hilarious.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) I don't think it is Johnny Lujack. Pretty sure Jim Miller holds the record. I also know he holds the record for most consecutive 300 yard games in Bear history too. See Page 6
  11. Kaner out up to 3 weeks. That's lucky, it looked it could have been much worse. It being the NHL, there's no word as to what the actual injury is, just "lower-body"
  12. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) Borass has been terribly, terribly, terribly wrong about the value of his clients in the past. In fact, this seems to happen every year now. Teams really get frugal a week or so after the winter meetings and agents with their heads in the clouds start coming back down to earth. Jayson Werth?
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) Look at last year's Padres. It doesn't take a whole lot to compete in the NL west. Seriously. The champion Giants obviously have the pitching, but their lineup for most part is just Buster Posey and a bunch of old and/or fat guys.
  14. Daryle Ward?? I guess he could be useful for the 9 games we play in interleague parks where we may need a PH for the pitcher. He is probably worse in the OF than CQ, I remember the Cubs tried him out in RF a few games. Pure comedy.
  15. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 09:36 AM) Would that be Halladay's no-hitter in the NLDS this year? Playoff-wise that would work, but I was thinking regular season only.
  16. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 07:45 AM) This may not be the most accurate source. Johnny Lujack Name the one baseball team to end a game with every player having the exact same batting average they did when the game started.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) His "stamp" is clearly takeaways and scoring on the defensive side of the ball. The Bears lead the league in takeaways since Lovie arrived. I think that's pretty clearly the key of his defensive philosophy. As for his strengths, I think he prepares the team well. I believe he creates good schemes, good game plans, whatever you want to call them. The Bears are also fairly consistent in regards to their motivation to play a game. They do not seem to be as subject to letdowns or overlooking opponents as much as some other teams do. As for his weaknesses, he clearly has some in-game issues. He seems to be poor at clock management and challenges, as you said. Overall though, I believe he has been the best Bears coach of my lifetime. Certainly better than Mike Ditka. More consistent than Dick Jauron. Obviously better than Wanne. Maybe it's not saying much, and maybe he's not Bill Bellichick or Mike Tomlin, but there's not a lot of head football coaches I would rather have than Lovie Smith. Well said. His best strength is that this players all like to play for him, and they always show up ready to play and he has them ready. Sometimes that tends to be overlooked in a coach, but look at what happen in Dallas with Wade Phillips. Lovie is not gonna outcoach Bellicheck, but when he surrounds himself with great assisstants like he has this year, he doesn't have to worry about that as much.
  18. The good news is that New England has to come to Chicago, while Green Bay still has to go to Foxboro. I don't see the Bears winning this Sunday, but I really don't think the Pack can leave Boston with a win either.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) I don't see anyone beating the Patriots in the afc playoffs. Especially in Foxboro. They will have a one-game lead over Pitt & they beat them head-to-head, so they are in the drivers seat for home-field.
  20. This deal is probably good news for the Cardinals. The two teams that can offer Pujols the most money now have 1st basemen locked up for the next 6 or 7 years. I doubt they would let him go anyway, but it definitely helps them.
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) Running off Jay Cutler and trading Peyton Hillis for no reason. Hillis was hitting on his wife... What, you wouldn't trade away a player for that??
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) Why is everybody freaking out over the bullpen right now? lol. Putz obviously was looking to get paid and I'm glad the Sox passed. It's December 6th. We've got 3 legitimate relievers right now. I'm sure will pick somebody up. As sad as our system is, we do have some arms that at least deserve a shot. Bullpens can be piecemealed together rather easily, and more importantly, cheaply. I agree. How many teams have thrown all kinds of money at relievers only to see it blow up in their face?? (Linebrink) The bullpen is important of course, but it can be so hit-or-miss, you have time to put it together.
  23. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) Championships. The fact that Ditka only made one Super Bowl with the teams he had says more about him than the one they won.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) This is just one of those seasons. These type of seasons are much more bearable when you start them as defending Stanley Cup Champions.
