  1. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 10:48 PM) thats a great call. i remember a sunday night game in december when vick came into chicago with the falcons and it was freezing. he couldnt wait to get back to the sideline to put his coat and hat back on. the bears dominated. unfortunately it wont likely get that cold by next sunday. That was the game Grossman came back from injury at halftime to replace Orton. The game time temp was way under 32 degrees, no doubt.
  2. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) I'm ready to watch us against Vick. f*** the hype, this defense is playing as well as they did in 06. I just got tix to the game, so I'm definitely ready to see what happens. I think the speed the Bears have at LB & with Peppers can help neutralize Vick, but those WRs are so damn quick too, it could be tough.
  3. QUOTE (T R U @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) worthless, if I had thought Thigpen was gonna be this bad I wouldn't have even said anything.. Tried to tell you. It was still Tyler freaking Thigpen with 3 days to learn against a solid defense.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) His historically good peripherals stand out to me. Intentional walks aside, he had 183 Ks to 16 BB. That's 11.43 K/BB, good for the BEST ALL TIME. Even in Pedro Martinez's amazing years, he was churning out 8-9 K/BB rates. Only 1 other person is history has EVER posted a K/BB rate above 10. K/BB is an extremely pitcher-specific stat. Hits, runs, wins, all have some sort of effect from their defense. K/BB are just between the hitter and the pitcher. No one else factors in. Then add in the fact that Cliff pitched through 2 injuries (abdominal and back), AND pitched 1/3 of his season in Texas, and I think he deserves a LOT more respect than the vote shows. I am not outraged that he lost, but outraged that he would not even crack the top 3. Also, if you want sabermetics, Lee had a 7.1 WAR to Felix's 6.2 WAR. I never even saw Lee's name mentioned in award talks before the announcement, so thats why I was wondering why you were so adamant about Lee being in top 3. His walk totals are historically impressive and you can't argue with the best K/BB of all time. I don't necessarily disagree with his 7th place finish, but I can definitely see where you are coming from.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) I would have given Cliff the Cy Young, but I figured he would at least finish in 2nd. 7th just makes me lose faith in the Cy Young award now as well. Really? I don't really follow many of the sabermetric stats, but glancing at the everyday pitching stats, I think there were several pitchers who had better 2010 regular seasons than Lee did. His ridculously low walk total does stand out, but other than that nothing from last season makes me say Cliff Lee = 2010 Cy Young.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) Cliff Lee finishing 7th in the Cy Young is like Jeter winning the Gold Glove. I disagree. All six of the pitchers that finished ahead of him had great seasons as well. Felix/Price/Weaver/Clay all had lower ERAs, CC was tied with him, Lester had 40 more K's in fewer innings. Lee had some struggles when he first got to Texas, I think 7th is where he belongs, if not below Cahill or Soriano.
  7. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) Wrigley is a Chicago icon. It should go nowhere. I live in Lakeview. Don't like the Cubs, but it's a part of Chicago history. Ultimately I think what you do is keep the outfield bleachers (which are new anyway) and rebuild the other 2/3s of the stadium. Keep the old sign out front, keep the old-school scoreboard. It's just so retarded that some people want to turn it into a modern park with video screens and all that kind of stuff. That's not the appeal of it. BTW you may hate it as a baseball park but it certainly is a kickass concert venue; saw the Police there a few years back. It's the 21st century. Being able to watch replays, see highlights, read stats on players are all very appealing to the common baseball fan. Even Cubs fans. You don't need to do all the videos and games in between innings, but there is a lot of stuff you miss out on without even a single video screen.
  8. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Felix AL Cy Young. Good to hear. Will be interested to see how the voting played out, how close it was.
  9. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) Dbacks traded a 19-year-old starter who had pretty good peripherals (9 K/9 to a 2.7 BB/9) for a 28-year-old 1B who is probably just a back-up player. Makes no sense for the Dbacks whom is thought to be trading off their talented players. Thanks, hadn't really heard of them before. Sounds like the D-backs may be taking the whole "experience from a winning team" angle a bit too far.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) Dbacks trade Scott Allen to Yankees for Juan Miranda. who for who???
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) Very much looking forward to the Illinois-Texas game tonight. Hopefully they come out and make a statement. I'm still not sold that this team is a whole lot better than last year, but I guess we'll see what happens the next 3-4 days. They obviously have the talent & depth, but they need to combine all that into one well-played 40-minute game of basketball, which was their problem last year. I really want to see them play Pitt tommorrow, so I hope they do show up tonight. If they really are as good as the pre-season hype, then Texas is a team they should usually beat on a neutral court. Get it done Bruce.
  12. Two beavers are better than one...
  13. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Nov 18, 2010 -> 07:45 AM) games played: 2007: 0 2008: 61 2009: 21 2010: 0 Once this season is over, he will have played in a total of 82 out of 328 possible games. Sam Bowie part Dos
  14. Has anyone else seen this new Kane & Toews commercial for the Dell Streak? Wow, play on players.
  15. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) Random spazz thought - does anyone think this possibility crossed Kenny's mind: trade Buehrle (and I generally loathe the idea BTW) for pretty much nothing but a couple useful prospects and salary relief, and use Danks in an Upton deal, and then take the money saved and ... gasp ... throw it at Cliff Lee? Because Danks in arb + Mark is around $20M and Cliff Lee + Upton is only a mil or two above that. And that's about the only scenario where I like trading Mark. I'd only do it to take on a better pitcher. Only if Reinsdorf plans on giving up ownership in the next few weeks. No way he approves the type of deal necessary to sign Cliff Lee. He has always been against signing pitchers to longer than like 4 year deals, and I'm sure TEX or NYY will give him 6 or 7.
  16. Phils may be interested in TCQ, but all I have seen the last two seasons is just average CQ.
  17. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 03:22 PM) With the money tied up in Zook and his assistants, I don't see anyone going anywhere until those contracts expire. Yeah, I know Zook is going nowhere with RG at the helm. Just more theoretical talk.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 03:13 PM) Leave the middle east. Yeah, but we all know how likely it is that would ever happen.
  19. MSU to play on an aircraft carrier??? I guess if we are playing football & hockey in any stadium we choose, may as well play a b-ball game on water.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) Someone else said the phrase - security theater. It's an absolute joke. I was ok with it up to a point, but we've gone over the line of common sense IMO, and in doing so we've absolutely let the terrorists win. We continue to be paranoid and severely alter our way of life because of fear. I keep seeing you use this phrase. I am just curious, what should be done differently so that we are winning vs. the terrorists?
  21. QUOTE (danman31 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) You don't understand. Persa is at least 85% of the offense. If Illinois loses, Zook really should be fired. I still think he's done a fair enough job to stay on board this year, but losing to a Persa-less NU would be dreadful. I guess I see that, but I just don't think the Illini's recent performances command that much respect. I think the Minnesota loss would be much more of a reason to fire him than any lossess to NW or Fresno. Not making a bowl game again this year might be a reason to fire him, but then again it's Illinois football. Who else are you gonna get? With the athletes in place now, I think the future is looking up, I guess you might as well keep him.
  22. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) The White Sox signed third baseman Dallas McPherson, tweets Baseball America's Matt Eddy. The 30-year-old hit .267/.339/.541 with 22 home runs in 354 plate appearances for Oakland's Triple-A affiliate this year. He hasn't spent significant time in the bigs since '06. McPherson is 30 already??? Wow.
  23. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) Bud Black and Ron Gardenhire are the Managers of the Year I can't find the voting anywhere, but the release says Black beat Dusty Baker by one point.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) To be fair, Bruce Levine is awful when it comes to the Sox baseball.
