  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) Just turned it on NBA TV. Heat up 4 with 2 min left in OT. Sucks that D-Will fouled out. How about Millsap putting up 44 points??? Interior D anybody? Jazz just took the lead, 1:45 left. Millsap with 46 now
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) Heat blowing a 22 point lead. Down to 3 with 8 mins left. Just turned it on NBA TV. Heat up 4 with 2 min left in OT. Sucks that D-Will fouled out. How about Millsap putting up 44 points??? Interior D anybody?
  3. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 06:27 PM) I think the fact that Kotsay has knowledge of this information is a bad sign. I mean, it could easily be common knowledge in the clubhouse, but I'm guessing he's in the works for next year... A lot of people here have the same information, as does the media. Most of it is speculation either way, I wouldn't be too concerned.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) A saving grace is that Yankee fans don't ride the short bus: http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php/1...ld-Glove-Awards Thanks for posting that, good stuff. My favorite:
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) 11/9/10: The date the GG award officially died for me. This award needs to be motherf***ing abolished ASAP. It's become beyond despicable. Once Palmeiro won it in 1999 with 28 games played at 1B, I pretty much stopped caring about which undeserving players won it.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) The most obvious need on the whole roster right now is a closer. I'm going to go big and say Soriano. I don't know if the Sox could afford him, but this move would make me very happy.
  7. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) Wow, tough crowd. You were expecting different?
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) Why would the Padres want Marmol? They have Heath Bell as their closer, and Marmol is only 1 year behind the Bell Curve in terms of getting to FA. They'd want bats first. Cause he is 5 years younger than Bell, two years away from FA as opposed to one, and he made less money in 2010, so his arb figure may be lower in 2011. Then they could trade Bell for more young players. That being said, in a trade for AGon, I agree they ask for bats, not for a closer, but I could see why they would want Marmol instead of Bell.
  9. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) - 12 traffic citations - 1 felony - caught cheating (possibly numerous times) - asked for large sum of money to go to Miss St. (and likely received that large sum form Auburn) Yes, what else will be discovered? I love how the person(s) revealing this stuff about Cam have turned into the "villain" here. Amazing spin... I don't think the people revealing it should be turned into villians at all. But I just don't see why everyone suddenly thinks he shouldn't win the Heisman cause of what he did at Florida or what his rep has been rumored, but not proven to have done. He's one of the best eligible college players, and until its proven that he was paid to play at Auburn, thats not gonna change. Plus, I'm sure $200k is a deal for a player of his caliber in the SEC anyway.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 10:24 AM) So they found out that Cam Newton was going to get expelled from Florida because of academic cheating? What else is going to be uncovered about this guy? Who gives a s*** if he cheated at Florida? He isn't there anymore. He went to a JUCO, and then went to Auburn. As long he isn't cheating at Auburn, who cares what he did two schools ago??? Urban Meyer welcomed him back to the team after his felony arrest too.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 07:51 AM) Frankly, yeah, it's still disappointing. If you're going to spend the 13th pick on a pitcher, you don't really want a guy who's ceiling is 60 innings. Closers are too easy/too cheap to find compared to starting pitching. I hear you on that. Its just that the MLB draft can be such a crapshoot, that if he turns out to be a great closer, not a starter, it may be a slight disappointment, but not a complete waste. Also, if he stays in the bullpen in 2011 or 2012, then stretches out to be a starter, thats fine IMO if thats what the team needs. It may be better on his arm as well.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 12:40 AM) I agree. Taking a reliever with the 13th overall pick is a laughable idea. I will flip if the Sox decide to make him a bullpen pitcher. How about if he becomes a top closer? Is that still a waste of the 13th pick?
  13. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) I am going to have to respectfully disagree. The starting pitching market is pretty thin and guys like Westbrook/Garland/Pavano are going to get big money for MULTIPLE years. Plenty of teams (including the Cards)would take Buehrle for only one year at 14,000,000. Now he doesn't have much value, but I wouldn't say it is negative. Come to think of it, isn't there an automatic escalator if MB is traded? That might damper things... They already have $72 million invested in just 6 players. Their payroll has never been $100 million, and their pitching coach is known to pick up garbage pitchers and salvage their careers. They aren't gonna take MB for $14 million, then pay their other 18 players less than $14 million total. Plus, I think they would like to save some cash to offer that 1B of their a long term deal relatively soon. Not to mention Wainwright's contract may be running out soon (not sure how his options work), they are gonna want to pay him too. They will NOT take on MB's salary.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) I actually am one who thinks Paulie is not done and can come close to the numbers of this year. I must have written my note poorly. I think he was a stud this entire season. He hit for power, roped balls into the corners and what I love about Paulie, whacked several singles as well when we needed them. I was meaning to bag on the people that think it's all great to sign Omar and don't really care if Paulie goes cause Paulie magically is going to see his numbers drop big time. He's 10 years younger than Omar. Paulie is far from dead. I'm also a fan, on the record, who wouldn't mind Paulie playing even if he dips fairly dramatically offensively in the second year of his next two year deal, which I doubt he will. I like watching him play defense. I don't care what the numbers say, my eyes tell me Paulie is pretty good on D. I love watching him scoop everything. Yeah, he sometimes stumbles a bit as an oaf on plays to his right, but so what? Nobody's perfect. It's just not that easy to compare two guys when one makes $1.75 million on a one-year deal and is projected to be a 5th IF, while the other will make $10-12 million/year on a three year deal and will depended on to be your top run producer. If Vizquel sucks, it won't kill your team. If PK struggles, it will definitely put you in a hole, thats the difference.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) After winning 90 games, it might not be in the Padres' best interests to trade him in the off-season. Can you imagine some of the fan reaction? You get a team that choked, but was only 2 games off from a postseason birth with a $40 million payroll. And then you trade your best player away? If the Padres suck next year, they should trade him well before the deadline, but I think they ought to test the waters of 2011 before dumping A-Gon. It depends if the fans realize that the season was a bit of a mirage and odds are it doesnt happen again in 2011.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) It was also interesting to me that the one team Pauly has been repeatedly connected to, Arizona, Padilla quickly eliminated. I still don't see why Paulie would go to Arizona. I get the being out west close to home, but that team is going nowhere right now. Would he be willing to give up winning to be out there?
  17. f*** yeah Mark!!! That opening day play is probably the reason he is winning, but it was such a bad ass play, it alone deserves the GG.
  18. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) I think we end up with Carlos Peña or Aubrey Huff. I'd put my money on Peña, though. I hope you are wrong.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 06:34 AM) It's nice to see the Bears actually run the ball. The problem.... they still sucked at it against the worst run defense in the league. The backs (Cutler not included) ran for an amazing 66 yards. Now we know why Martz refuses to run the ball. He tried it against the worst run D and it didn't work. It won't look any better against the other 30 teams in the league.
  20. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 6, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) Seriously, it's quite possible the Illinois-Michigan basketball game could have the same score at halftime. Btw, I love that Michigan Stadium was playing the Antoine Dodson "Bed Intruder" remix over the PA system. Last year's b-ball game was 51-44. Final.
  21. QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) Yet he'll still probably be worth it and more. It's not like his high marks have been sporadic throughout his career. They are three elite seasons in a row with over 650IP. And I would not expect age to affect a guy relying on pinpoint control like Lee as severely as a guy who relies on velocity for success I hear ya. I dont think he's gonna be a bust, but I'd much rather give that money to a 28 year old pitcher instead of a 32 year old one that became an ace at 30.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) Ben Sheets. 1 yr/$10M at age 31 I think a former Cy Young winner could net $7M a year at the same age, and the Nationals are interested. You have a great point there. If Sheets got that money, then yeah, I guess Webb could get it too. I wouldn't invest that much $$$, but I guess thats why I am not a GM.
