  1. QUOTE (balfanman @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 08:11 AM) Will people please stop saying this, it isn't correct. Buehrles option year expired when his 10/5 rights kicked in in July. If Buehrle is traded, this years salary gets bumped by 1 million, and then he is a free agent after this year. Simply put, anyone trading for Mark only has him for 2011. I don't doubt you, but you need to tell that to the people at BR. This is what it says for 2012 on MB's player page. 2012 33 Chicago White Sox *$15,000,000 $15M Vesting Option Option vests if player is traded
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 07:32 AM) The Rangers declined a $9 million mutual option on Vlad Guerrero, making him a Free Agent. I'm honestly a bit shocked. I thought they'd have picked that up for sure after the season he had. Maybe this is either a symptom of their financial issues from last year or a sign that they're going to go full-bore after Cliff Lee. I dont know. He wore down in the 2nd half, his OPS went from .919 to .748. He didn't hit all that much in the postseason either. $9 million would be a large over-pay IMO. I could see him staying in Texas, but maybe for half that amount.
  3. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 07:04 AM) Why wouldn't he? He doesn't come off as the type to block a trade.Plus, he'd pitch in the NL, which would likely increase his output which could lead to a better contract come his free agency the following year. Are you serious? I see absolutely no reason why he would accept that deal. This is the guy who has seriously discussed retiring when this contract is up. Unless he is going to STL, I doubt he accepts any other trade. If he is traded, his $15M option for 2012 kicks in, so he would play for that team for another season, which is another reason to think he would block it.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) They'll be fine in the long-run, but they don't look very good right now. This. It's not like they are getting thoroughly outplayed all of the time, but they keep having bad decisions & mental lapses that are causing them to give up goals, while they can't seem to make the big play offensively. The talent is obviously there, and as the young guys keep getting more ice time, I think they will start looking better. I really like what I have seen from Skille & Dowell. LOL at the doom & gloom attitude that seems to be prevailing in & around the UC. I guess since they won the Cup, people expected them to breeze through the NHL despite all the roster changes and new youth in the lineup. Now people seem to act like this team never has a chance to be good again. Let's not forget they have 4 of the top 25-30 players in the entire NHL signed for the next 5 seasons. Btw, f*** the NHL schedule makers. Why do the Hawks have 4-6 more games played than any other team in the division??? I'm sure that is not helping, it seems like almost every game is part of a back-to-back.
  5. Interesting, Scott & Hendry are gonna play as forwards tonight on the 4th line with Pisani. The 3rd D line of Boynton/Cullimore kinda makes me sick, but its not like the other options are all that better.
  6. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) wait wait wait, as in the town still allows Haloween to take over the town by closing streets and allowing a giant street party or they stopped the over the top, college kids from three states crashing everywhere, shutting down?? Kinda like the crack down on Unofficial St. Patty's Day in Champaign
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 07:58 AM) Maybe we need a stronger set of commitments to keep this thread going. Who wants to sign a contract in blood? Only if it has an escape clause
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) Magic-Knicks game postponed after cleaning of 'asbestos-related materials' Great, the Blackhawks were there Monday night. At least I'll know whats up if they come out a bit tired and out of breath tommorrow night
  9. Two thumbs up from me, although I hope he doesnt get 100 Gs & 400 ABs again. There are two uncontrollable factors that could make that happen (Injuries & Ozzie)
  10. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 10:34 AM) I think you might just be projecting the "holier than thou" upon him given his reputation. He's paid to give his opinion, and it's normally insightful and accurate. Yeah, you are probably right. His reputation definitely precedes him whenever I see him on TV, but oh well. Anyway, I found this intersting Yahoo article on Moss:
  11. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) My guess is he is tired of the Ozzie/Kenny drama, sees that the Sox are not going to beat the Twins the next couple of years and jumps to a team with more stability and a better chance of winning. Well that would put to rest the D-Backs rumor from Levine.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 10:17 AM) He's entertaining on NBC, too. Ugh, I cannot f***ing stand him. Especially with his holier than thou attitude, get off your high horse son.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) That's Cliff Lee's style though. He goes after people, he doesn't want to just give up and walk a guy because of the situation. You are just so damn smart Balta.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) Not nearly as much though. I don't think there is any question that the two best teams were in the Superbowl last season, considering they started out like 13-0 and 14-0. I think basketball is the absolute best example of the best team winning it, because it is such a superstar driven league, and the team that has that superstar player with a good supporting cast almost always wins it. I don't follow the NHL nearly as much, but I do know that if you get a goalie who starts playing well at the right time, he can carry you a long way as well, so that, along with the limited scoring, is probably the closest example to baseball as there is...but those teams still have to win 16 games (and can play as many as 28) to win. That just isn't present in baseball. I actually remember a lot of discussion after the NFC Champ. game how the Saints weren't the best team in the NFC and wouldnt have won if the game wasn't in the Superdome, but whatever. I agree that the NBA usually has the best team winning. Its just a sport that when two teams play seven times, the best team will usually win the most games. Its a large enough sample size that the better team's skill will usually come out. Hockey can definitely be as random and lucky as baseball. Not just due to a hot goalie, but its just the nature of the sport where a few unlucky puck bounces can knock off the best team. I think the Hawks probably were the best team overall last season, but without a lucky rebound their way, they would have lost game 5 & maybe the series to Nashville in the first round. Just the fact that the 06 Cardinals are WS champions makes it obvious whether or not the best team always wins in baseball.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) You have to love Bochy getting credit for having Huff bunt in the 7th inning. In reality, the bunt took the bat out of the hands of one of their best hitters and put Burrell in a situation where he had to make contact. Edgar bailed out Bochy though. As did Cliff Lee. Don't throw that fastball up right there. Edgar had been on fire and clutch in the WS, while Rowand barely even played anymore. Pitch around Renteria, especially on 2-0, and take your chances with Rowand.
  16. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) He's going back to the Patriots. I'd bet on that. After they were willing to trade him in the first place? Do they want him back?
  17. Preseason All-Americans: Singler Pullen Fredette J. Johnson (PUR) Barnes
  18. Campbell to make his season debut tonight. I'm sure there's no one happier about it than #4.
  19. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 09:30 AM) Bills are playing some close games, they are bound to win soon. Possible trap game for the Bears? I also see that it is being played in Toronto. A trap game? If the Bears lose, it will be cause they are a crap football team, not cause they were looking ahead or taking the Bills lightly.
  20. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 06:48 PM) Good for you guys. The NFC is a joke so why can't the Buccs advance in the playoffs? Josh Freeman actually looks like he knows what he's doing, might have a QB of the future there.
  21. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 03:18 AM) They have two decent tests with some good defensive teams in Cal and AZ although they are weak offensively. Oregon really wont face any real test until they play in a bowl game just like last year. We get it, OSU beat Oregon in the Rose Bowl last year. Its a different season now, that game means nothing for the 2010 season.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) This football season has not been very entertaining this season (unless you are lucky enough to watch Gus Johnson games every weekend). I heart Gus Johnson. He even made that BUF/KC game watchable.
  23. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) Some pretty piss-poor football was played today. Seriously. This was one of the worst football Sundays I can remember. Even the close OT game sucked.
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Cliff Lee should be starting tonight and than ready for a game 7. This is the World Series, Ron. You resting him for next year when he may not even be on your team? So then CJ Wilson & Colby Lewis will have to pitch on 3 days rest too. Perfect.
