QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 13, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) Votto gets you anything. So does Danks/Quentin I feel. What? Danks/Quentin gets you anything? Have the old Pirates GMs taken over every team in MLB?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 13, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) No doubt. Guys with unlimited upside always get traded four times in four years. You win. Brett Wallace says hello!

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Oct 13, 2010 -> 01:40 PM) Seriously, as an ISU fan, it's not relevant to me. As an Illinois fan, I agree. I find the way it is now very entertaining as well and don't really care to see it changed. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 13, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) Does Omiyale have naked photos of someone? I sure hope Tice knwos what he is doing as he is changing guys each game. Chris Williams will be at RT next week. Is there really a correct answer with those group of guys? Just stick Olin in the middle and flip a coin for the other spots -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Oct 13, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) What if Cliff Lee beats the s*** outa the Yankees this week? Twice. Still? That would be even more of a reason for the Yankees to sign him. Attempting to trade for him in the summer may have had as much to do with keeping him from potential playoff opponents, as much as it had to do with fortifying their rotation.

You just made the playoffs for the first time in 15 years, and just your 2nd winning record since then. Your team is full of young talented players who are showing their potential. Do you really think trading your 26-year old MVP is the right move to make, not only for your team or for your fans?? Come on. That article discusses whether or not sign him to a long-term deal now or later, not whether or not to trade him. /thread

Chris Williams is coming back this week, but probably moving to left guard, Omiyale stays at LT. Garza is getting benched for Edwin Williams, Webb at RT. -
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Oct 13, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) I dunno, you could make a similar case for us and Danks, yet most of us feel that trading Danks is a possibility because of his pending free agency, despite the fact that we have a winning record and could be considered contenders. Granted, their offense depends more on A-Gon than our pitching depends on Danks. I wouldn't rule it out is all. I agree. They also have to decide if 2010 is repeatable or if it was a fluke. Look at their rotation. Mat Latos is a stud, but Jon Garland? Kevin Correia? Clayton Richard isn't projected to be that much better than this season. I'm not a pro on their minor league system, but they don't seem to have too many up and coming stud hitters. Their bullpen was lights out but can all those guys repeat that? They will probably will be due arbitration raises this year too. You hate to trade him in the offseason, but if you can get a much larger haul, you can't dismiss the idea if your odds of competing arent the greatest.

Hammer with a two-game suspension as well. I guess Crawford is getting the start again tonight -
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 13, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) In don't like the Yanks either, but I just can't bring myself to root for the Texas Rangers. That team still has the stench of george w. bush all over it. Really? I wonder how many Republican Sox fans stopped rooting for them since Barack is such a huge fan

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 03:49 PM) I honestly think you can stick a fork in Flowers. At least as far as our organization is concerned. They weren't willing to deal him for two months of Dunn because they thought highly of him. I thought they wanted to trade Flowers but were unwilling to part with Viciedo?

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) "view the White Sox plan for 2011 as retooling" This doesn't mean he wants to land A-Rod, does it? Nah, he's only 34. Thats the plan for 2015.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) This post is spot on. I think it's time for a salary cap as well - even though the Sox are one of the medium to big spenders. Just think... if the Sox went out and got Dunn, Werth, Crawford, and Lee and increased the payroll to 200M, they'd sell out every game too. And the tv ratings would be through the roof. I couldn't imagine being a Pirates or a Royals fan. Small market teams shouldn't be at such a disadvantage. I bet Ozzie still uses Mark Kotsay in the rotating DH platoon, even with that roster. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) But they haven't been spending $140 million annually. That's just for 2010. Since their run started, they've spent $89 million, $98 million and $113 million. The more they win, the more the payroll rises. But it's not like they've just gone out whoring the FA market like the Yankees. They have some of the premier players in the game, players that either came up through the system or were acquired via the system. You have to have some patience, but replicating their model is within reason if you have the right people in place. Yeah, but right now they are able to afford all those players from their system because their payroll is at $140 million. They couldnt have traded those top prospects for Halladay if they couldnt afford to pay him $20 mil a year. I realize that they got to that level through their system, but now they are on a different level than most other teams and can make some financial moves that other NL teams can't, which is why I disagreed that the NL is a much more even playing field. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) So why is it that Bobby Cox always seemed to get a free pass for his club continuously coming up short in the postseason, yet Gardenhire is the worst manager that ever lived because he keeps losing to the AL all-star team? Thats a good question. In the Braves defense, they did make the WS 4 out of the first 5 playoff trips. Once the division series started, they won that round 5 straight years too. They at least were winning playoff series, Gardenhire is having difficulty winning single playoff games. That being said, Cox has lost 8 of his last 9 playoff series and hasnt made the NLCS since 2001, but you never really hear about that.

QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Oct 10, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) For the time being there are only 2 ways to win the AL pennant: The first way is to spend like the Yankees and Red Sox, on both the Major league and Minor League levels. The second way is to go into the s***ter for a 5 year period, and emerge with the amount of talent that the Rays have built over the last 5-7 years. Another note: When you spend or draft, at the end of the process, you must possess 2 pitchers with #1 stuff, one of which pitches like a #1, and the other of which pitches like a #2 or #3. The period between 2004-2008 was special because the Yankees made some really bad contract choices. When the marquee free agents returned to the market it was back to this way. As long as the Yankees have a $200 MM payroll and spend it wisely, these are the only ways to compete with them. It does not matter what you do, The Yankees will always win unless you have somewhere close to the amount of talent that they do. This is why, IMO there should be a cap of a $150 MM payroll in baseball. Unfortunately, there is a more level playing field in the NL. Is there though? The Phillies ($140 mil) are favorites to win their 3rd straight NL pennant, and are easily in position to win the next 2 or 3. The Mets & the Cubs were spending way more money than other teams as well, they just did a s***ty job in who they gave the money too. The Reds did it the way the Rays did, while the Giants scouted/developed some great arms, but still can't compete lineup-wise. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 08:50 AM) Hammer will prob be suspended and fined for that hit. Not sure I agree with that. He doesn't have a history of trouble, so hopefully he only gets one game, but yeah that was more bad luck/timing then trying to hurt somebody. After Boynton got one game for this throat slash gesture, I wonder how many our old friend Wisniewski will get for this move. -

And you gotta love #19. As soon as Leddy scored the goal, Toews went straight to the net to grab the puck, so he can have a keepsake of his 1st career NHL goal. -
QUOTE (The Bones @ Oct 11, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) I am really looking forward to this. Hope the Giants offense can at least make a good series of this. That's the one thing that worries me. The best offense in the NL put up a .124/.160/.213 line against that staff. Small sample size of course, and the Giants pitching staff can obviously keep the games close, should be interesting.

I know the season is only 3 games old, but that was a big f***ing win for the Hawks last night. To give up two goals in the first 3 minutes, rookie goalie in net, facing a 5-minute penalty kill, your #3 defenseman out with a game misconduct, oh, and the best goalie in the world in net for the opponent. Way to fight back and get the W. -
On the way to work this morning, I saw on the outbound Kennedy where it splits into the Edens by Montrose, someone managed to graffitti the large I-94 to Milwaukee sign that spawns over all 4 lanes of traffic. How the f*** does someone get up there on a busy highway and manage to do that without getting caught? Thats impressive, not that I condone vandalism in any shape or form.
