  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) I hope the Yankees offense does enough to cover for their bad staff after Sabathia. Seriously. I hate the "must-win" cliche but if the Yankees lose game 1, they could be in trouble
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 09:25 AM) We could have had a cardboard cutout of a manager and wound up with the same record. I'm surprised you are giving Ozzie that much credit. I figured you would have a cardboard cutout winning more games than Ozzie...
  3. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 5, 2010 -> 08:20 AM) I think he was saying it's time to stop respecting the Twins and start treating them like true rivals...like the Red Sox and Yankees do to each other. So the reason Jenks blew a 3-run lead in Minnesota is because he respects the Twins and doesnt hate them? And Matt Thornton wouldn't have grooved a pitch to Thome in the 10th if he just held a little more anger towards him & the Twins. Maybe then instead of working with Gavin on how to pitch more consistently, we should spend time every day making him dislike the Twins more and more, then he won't s*** the bed against them 3 teams in a month. As intense as the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry is, I really don't think the players hate each other, and I'm sure there is a lot of mutual respect between the two teams. Let's not forget that those are two of the most talented teams in the league year in and year out, so every year they are competing to be the best in a super tough division or they are playing in the playoffs, which increases the intensity of every matchup.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 07:01 PM) I think the Sox have to quit kissing Minnesota's ass and go out and beat them. Its time for the Sox to hate them. Make it like NY/Bos. If the Sox ever figure that out, they should dominate the division and they will be in the playoffs 6 out of 9 years. Figure out how to have one of the top two payrolls in baseball???
  5. Morin sent down to Rockford today. I wonder if Campbell's injury and the need for blue line depth played a part in the decision.
  6. Just when you thought ESPN couldn't get any more ridiculous...
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 01:46 PM) If there's going to be an upset in the first round this year, this is going to be the series. A 91-win team beating a 92-win team hardly constitutes an "upset" in my book...
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) Hub on 670 just said he's fairly confident we'll be seeing Caleb Haney's first NFL start on Sunday. F*ck. Who would have thought Jimmy Clausen would be the better, more experienced QB in a game as soon as Week 5???
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) 88 Unfortunately, I only thought the Twins would win 85-86. I wish I had been right about that too.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:27 AM) Offensive Lineman Drafted by Jerry Angelo. Impressive group of players. The worst part is that the one good lineman he drafted suffered an awful injury with the Bears, so it didn't work out with them and now he's a starter somewhere else.
  11. I keep going back & forth between my hatred for the Twins, my wish for Thome to get a ring, and my hatred for the Yankees. Can the Twins & Yankees both lose, but somehow Thome makes it to the WS??? That would be the best scenario.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 4, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) Their record against winning teams is irrelevant at this point. It's a 5-game series. Anything can and probably will happen. How is it irrelevant? I get that its the baseball playoffs and anything can happen. I'm just saying that the Reds struggled against good teams all season and the Phillies were #1 in the NL. Is it possible the Reds sweep them? Of course, anything's possible. But comparing the teams on paper and they way have played all season, I think the Phillies are much better and should win easily IMO. We will see what happens though.
  13. Phillies sweep this series. Reds did not win a season series against a team with a winning record, I dont see them hanging with Philly.
  14. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) Sign Huston Street to close I like the idea, but how exactly are they gonna get the Rockies to release him from his contract that runs through 2012???
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) This. I'm going to be glued to the tube for the Reds/Phillies. I think that series might be the worst one. I like the Reds and all their young players, but Roy^2 & Hamels will shut them down I think. The Reds won their division by beating the s*** teams and have a losing record against every good team in the NL. They have a promising future, but I don't think they stand a chance vs. Philly.
  16. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 2, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) I love barndances and girls who know how to pull off that country look. Ugh, I need to get 7 years younger and back to Champaign...
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 2, 2010 -> 11:10 PM) A lot of it is fluky stuff, like his 22% HR/FB, but really, it's not out the question for any good power hitter to jack 50 in a random year. Ryan Howard is typically a 40 homer guy, but when he won the MVP, he hit 58...that's a monstrosity of a jump in itself, so yes, it is definitely possible to go from a 15 homer, mediocre hitter to a 50 homer, great hitter season just like that. I get what you are saying but Ryan Howard was a 25 year old who hit 22 homers in half a season, then hit 58 the next full season, while Bautista never hit 20 before this year at the age of 29. Not to mention that Bautista is 4 inches & 60 pounds smaller than Howard.
  18. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 2, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) Well... so far not a good start to the season. Brian Campbell is out 4-5 weeks with a sprained knee. Reason #3,457 why choosing Hjalmarsson over Niemi was the correct decision.
  19. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Oct 2, 2010 -> 11:22 PM) And yet has a .308 OBP to A.J.'s .301 OBP. I wasn't really comparing them (Flowers will never have A.J.'s average, but he will probably have the better OBP even if he hits .200 and OPS though won't nearly have the contact rate as A.J.) but it's good to see a young guy that patient. (I've watched the games he's played. These aren't 3-0, 3-1 counts either with easy misses for walks, he's earning them) Patience is great and all for a youngster, but its pretty empty without a single base hit. Just like Pierre's BA is empty cause his SLG & OBP are so low.
  20. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Oct 2, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) what about Choo from Cleveland? it's not a "sick" bat, but at least the guy can field, throw, and hit! I am the biggest Choo fan, but people on this board need to realize that Cleveland is not that stupid. Considering Sizemore's injuries, he is their most important franchise position player, even at his age with his military commitments. The Indians WILL NOT trade him for anything not including Beckham.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 1, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) In my memory, Crawford's been about as good of a citizen in Tampa Bay as one could possibly have been with that franchise. Love this from Passan's twitter: JeffPassan Crawford: "Maybe to David and Longo that was a problem, but they should be happy. When I came to the big leagues, it was 5,000 showing up." about 16 hours ago via web
