  1. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Not sure if lowering ticket prices last minute would bring fans in if the team's out of it, and now it's colder out, and they're playing Cleveland to end it. I always hated the premium ticket scam--just because the team is the New York Yankees doesn't mean it's going to be a good GAME. I get why Cubs/Sox should be more but... That said I've been REALLY happy with stubhub this year for buying last-minute tix to games--got some great deals, deals that were nowhere to be found going direct through the Sox/TM. Yankees games are premium tickets for the exact same reason Cubs/Sox are. They are the most popular games that are gonna have the most fans and are games that will sell out no matter what the price. It has nothing to do with the quality of the games or the opponents, just simple supply and demand. Sucks for the fan but thats business.
  2. QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) I havent really been paying attention..but are the Twins resting their starters for the playoffs? Cause i see they've lost 5 straight and have given up 10+ runs 3 times. It's not like they are far behind the Yankees and Rays for best record in the AL/Homefield advantage (which they would really need) Stumbling or Resting? It's now 4 of 5 games they have given up 10+. In one of those starts Liriano left with the flu and then the bullpen got rocked. But the other three were s***ty starts by Pavano, Slowey, & Blackburn. Mauer hasn't played since the 19th due to knee inflammation. Thome has been out for a week with back issues. Hardy has been out with migraines too. Other than that I think most of their regulars have been playing most games. The offense has been fine for the most part. Getting shut down by Verlander is normal, all though last night they couldn't score on the mighty Sean O'Sullivan.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) Best pitcher no one's heard of: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8622 After tonight, 37 K in 19 IP He's gonna make it a lot easier on the Braves next year if Wagner does stick with his retirement decision to spend time with his family.
  4. QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) Lost in this debate is the fact that the Stanley Cup is the most s***tily engraved trophy in all of sports. That engraving looks like a left-handed monkey engraved it right-handed. Look at Kris Versteeg's name - damn! And how about the fact that there are way more office people on the Cup then actual players. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy for my countryman Pawel Prylinski, that his name is now on the Stanley Cup. But he's a f***ing "massage therapist"?!?!?!

  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 01:23 PM) He could announce that he's decided not to come back. Yeah, although it would be weird to announce that with 4 games left to play with said team. Just kind of a weird tidbit thrown in there, why is it before Thursday's game and not today or yesterday?? He is obviously coming off a monster year, but you can never be certain how the FA market will play out, especially at the age of 34.
  7. What exactly is Konerko gonna address about free agency? Unless he and the Sox have worked out a deal, he has no idea what the Sox or any other teams will offer, so what can he really say about it??
  8. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 12:55 PM) The cat they traded Cam Barker for did not make it...that's BS. How do you figure? He played in 8 regular season games then was never heard from again.
  9. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) I like this quote from the Packers board however, "It took 18 penalties, two interceptions negated by penalties, dropped interceptions from Nick Collins and Charles Woodson, a Jermichael Finley touchdown called back because of a penalty, a blocked field goal, a punt return for a touchdown and a late fumble that somehow stayed in bounds for the Bears to squeak by the Packers." That makes it sound like a blocked field goal by a 6'6" defensive end is a fluke. Like a punt return for TD by the best returner in NFL history is a fluke. Like the most penalized team in the NFL in 2009 committing penalties is fluke. I can just as easily say "It took a dropped TD pass by Dez Clark, a missed field goal by the 3rd most accurate kicker in the NFL, and an awful roughing the passer penalty for the Bears to beat the Packers by only 3 points instead of 17."
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 07:51 AM) I don't mind some portion of the side show. Some portion of it is entertaining and useful. My problem is that this year has been a whole 'nother level. This year it's been far more pernicious and personal. I agree. I think part of the problem this year has been when Ozzie's kids have gotten involved and have talked trash. Thats the stuff that has really annoyed me.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) I'm actually really unmotivated to root for this team next year.It feels like a Lovie Smith lameduck type of deal. That Lovie Smith lameduck type of deal is going pretty well so far...
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) Devin's back, back again. Tell a friend
  13. Devin Hester, you are ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) I think all of us will say this about Huet. He has been nothing but class through-out all this and to the organization. Well put. I never thought about that but he definitely was all class when he was benched and kinda treated like a scape goat. Although his $22.5 million contract probably makes it much easier. Good luck to Frenchy.
  15. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Every NFL GM would take Cutler over Orton. QFT
  16. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Keep telling yourselves Danks, Buehrle and Floyd are parts of a great starting rotation when Danks forgets how to throw strikes at the end of every season, Floyd always has a mid-season injury he tries to hide until it pushes him to miss whole starts, and our divisional rivals light up Buehrle every year like a Christmas tree Mark's career ERA is 3.84. His career ERAs against the divisional rivals are: Indians: 4.68 Tigers: 3.01 Royals : 3.57 Twins: 4.09 If you combine all his numbers vs. those 4 teams, his career ERA vs. the AL Central is 3.87. His ERA vs. everyone else is 3.82. I dont see how that under 4 ERA and .05 difference constitutes getting lit up like a Christmas tree.
