  1. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 10:58 PM) Did my post say something different? Looking back at your posts, no, you didn't blame this season on his injuries. Either way, I hope one of us reopens this thread next September when Bay is in AAA Buffalo or he is leading the NL in HRs.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) Cmon. That is a pretty radical example. The argument here was Ozzie not playing Manny on a day arguably Manny didn't want to play anyway. Nobody trusts Passon at all on this for some reason. I may go overboard but on this I won't back down. I mean it used to be in sports if you won the f***ing game (and didn't do anything as dumb as your football example) people were happy and the manager was free of criticism that day. I can't believe some are to the point they b**** even though we won the game(s). How can you argue this manny not playing deal? He traveled all day, did not seem real enthused about playing when Oz talked to him, we won, then he was rested for the day game and we won again? And Oz gets zero credit. Maybe you'd be happier if Oz threw him under the bus and said, "I talked to Manny and you know what? I hated the look he gave me when I asked him if he wanted to play. I now understand why Joe Torre wanted to personally drive the guy to the airport to get him the hell out of Dodger Stadium." If Manny was the only original argument then I will actually agree with you and not complain. If Manny didn't sound like he wanted to play, then f*** him, don't put him in the lineup. My issue was with the Vizquel sac bunt in the 6th down 3. That was an awful decision Ozzie made, that could have had an effect on costing Sox the game. The Sox won despite that move. My main point was that managers still make bad moves in wins, and they still deserve to get second guessed, especially when every single game is that important. I will also say that if a manager puts a player in the right position and the player fails, then the manager should get no blame either.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) Just watch, Cano, Bautista, Hamilton and Cabrera will all finish ahead of Konerko somehow. If they do, I might be a bit upset, but you can't really argue with that though.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) Nah, I'm good. I don't need to back down because I am the minority. I guess we will see in the end when Danks gets his next contract, and when Jason Bay returns healthy next season. Bay had been healthy all year before the concussion and he still sucked
  5. M-Cab left the game with bicep tendinitis. It would be nice if he hit the 15-day DL, missed the 6 games vs. the Sox, and then came back vs. MIN in late September.
  6. QUOTE (Special K @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) As good as our offense has been (second to only the Yankees)... the real story has been how awful our pitching has been since the all star break and how surprisingly good the twins has been (even though I believe their starters are overperforming)... Minnesota ranks 2nd in ERA, while the Sox are 18th. As a team who was supposed to win this division on the backbone of their starting pitching, it's not hard to see how we are currently 4 games out even though our offense has been so good. I think a majority of this is attributable to our bullpen, but let's be honest, the starting pitching (with the exception of Jackson) has not exactly been lights out. RK TEAM GP W L ERA SV CG SHO IP QS ER R BB SO BAA 2 Minnesota 45 31 14 3.36 10 4 0 402.0 0 150 160 112 278 .258 18 Chicago Sox 46 24 22 3.94 8 2 0 415.1 0 182 196 142 320 .268 The struggles of our starting pitching in the 1st half is also a big story. Peavy & Floyd went into June with ERAs of over 6. As hard as it is to come back from a 9.5 game deficit, its just as hard to keep that lead for the next 2 or 3 months. If the Sox could have kept the lead to 5 or 6 early in the season, it would be a much different race.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) At this point it's looking like we'll be 4.5 games back. f*** you Detroit. The reason the Sox are 4.5 back is because they couldnt beat Minnesota after the All-Star break, can't expect too much help from other teams. To make it a real race again, they are gonna have to sweep 3 in a row against them in September. Thankfully Manny will hit 3-run homers in 3 straight games so I think the Sox will have a good chance (or at least he will stand on deck when other guys hit 3-run homers).
  8. I know I'm a few years old news with this, but I'm hooked on The Wire now. f***ing awesome show. Just started season 3, El Caballo and Marte get an appearance at a Sox/Orioles game in episode 1, had to mention it.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 08:45 PM) Seriously, what the f*** Miguel? Maybe the worst game of his career so far tonight. an RBI groundout is much better than a GIDP
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) Speaking in general. I can definitely agree that people here may overrate Sox players. But in this situation nobody here is overrating Danks, especially as compared to Jason Bay. On a side note, I am a huge fan of Choo, and if I were the Indians, I would think the conversation starts/ends with Gordon.
  11. Not that I have a vote, but Austin Jackson is starting to take my ROY vote away from Feliz.
  12. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 08:26 PM) Right, because Mark Teahen has been a great player in his career right? It's funny you guys act like Jason Bay has been a league average player over his career. Maybe you don't give him any credit because he played for Boston, or because he was traded for Manny, or some other irrational reason, but he has had a lot of great years over his career. He just happens to be having a bad year, and got injured. Maybe a player turns to suck after 1 year in your mind, but I am much more forgiving. The over reaction and overrating of our players here is pretty laughable. Who the f*** is overrating players??? John Danks is a 25 year old lefty who barring a Sept. collapse, will have 3 straight seasons of at least 30 starts & an ERA under 4. How many pitchers like that can you find? No one is even arguing about Quentin either, so don't bring him up. At the start of the 2011 season, Jason Bay will be a 32 year old outfielder who has had only one "star" season of his last 4. He is due $48 million over the next 3 years, and even if the Mets eat money as you propose, you still owe him $30 million over 3 years. Thats what you want?
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) It all depends upon the amount of rain that falls and Fenway's drainage ability. Since it's an older park like Wrigley, it may not empty as well as the newer parks. They also don't have the Sod Father as their groundskeeper
  14. On a side note, a funny stat about Felix is that despite his awful run support, he is somehow 3-0 vs. the Yankees in 3 starts. The fact that he gave up 1 earned run in 26 innings played a large part of it, but the Mariners still scored 17 runs in those 3 games (5.67 runs/game). They scored 75 runs in his other 26 starts (2.88 runs/game).
  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) In a vaccuum, Danks. But this team is looking deep in the SP department. With Buehrle-Peavy-Jackson-Floyd-Garcia-Sale all still here without Danks. Plus we had a flurry of pitchers pitch very well in the lower minor leagues this year. Chances are at least 1 of them will make the majors. So to answer the question, this team needs an OF more than it needs a SP. So if I can get a guy that has put up great numbers his whole career outside of this season in which he was injured, then I'll take that. You earlier mentioned how he has put up a WAR of 5 in three different seasons. 2004: 2.1 2005: 5.6 2006: 5.4 2007: -0.7 2008: 2.9 2009: 5.0 2010: 1.3 In the last 4 seasons, he has only put up a WAR that high once though, and prior to concussion he was healthy playing everyday and wasn't doing that much. $10 million for him? (If the Mets agree to pay that much?)
  16. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 04:19 PM) I'm extremely disappointed in what he's been able to do with Tony Pena. You mean nothing? His numbers here as compared to Arizona are overall pretty similar, except he's been walking more people this year. Maybe Coop just doesn't like the guy and won't help him?
  17. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Jason Bay averages 30 HR, 105 RBI, .278 AVG, .374 OBP, .882 OPS. He has been worth 5 WAR or higher 3 times in his career. Quentin has never done that, and Danks has done it once (2008). Now I can see why Danks + Quentin is an overpay due to Danks being only 25 years old, but I think Danks will be QUITE expensive in a year or two, and I wouldn't be too surprised if he becomes too expensive for Kenny. We currently have a surplus of starting pitching, and will need an OF and some power next season. Bay provides both. In this "scenario" the Mets would be paying us almost half of Bay's salary, so it would only result in us paying close to $10M a year for him which I believe will be close to what Danks would be seeking in a couple years anyway considering he will be just entering his prime when he is ready for a new deal. This season his splits are .259/.347/.402/.749 and he is not getting any younger. Don't blame that on his new spacious home park either, cause he hits much better there. Just because you are only paying 60% of Bay's salary doesn't mean you are getting a deal, he will still be overpaid. Would you really rather have Bay at $10 mil than Danks at $10 mil????
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) Explain your point, please. I just think its an awful trade that makes the Sox much worse. I know CQ is struggling, but I don't really expect much from a 32 year old Jason Bay, especially after his awful season. I know you mentioned cash in the deal, but he is owed $16 mil for each of the next 3 seasons. How much cash do you really expect to get from the Mets? Better to spend money on giving Danks a big contract, then save money and get Jason freakin Bay for him.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) My class in Winning 101 was taught by Al Davis. "Just Win, Baby." If you win, the guy in charge is doin' something right that day and gets the last laugh on all second guessers. I'm sure if the Raiders head coach goes for it on 4th and 25 on his own 30, fails and gives up a TD on the next play, but the Raiders still win the game, it was the correct move and Al Davis doesn't second guess him on it. "Just Win, Baby"
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) Just trade Danks and Quentin to the Mets for Jason Bay + cash. Sweet. I didn't like competing for division titles anyway.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 10:03 PM) Twins are 31-14 since the ASB. I believe this will be the 4th time in 8 years the Twins are at least 10 games over .500 during the 2nd half under Gardenhire. I would be really interested to see their 1st/2nd half strength of schedule splits over those seasons. (I searched a couple places but haven't been able to find them). Maybe they have just had much easier 2nd half schedules in those 4 years. They always seem to do a much better job of beating bad teams than the Sox do. In 05, 07, & 08, they played much worse in the 2nd half, so its not like they are a 2nd half team every season.
  22. QUOTE (GLOAD is GOD @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) After watching Choo for the past two years, its obvious he's a pretty tough out. Not sure how salaries would match up, with arbitration and everything, but with Cleveland clearly out of it for sometime....do you think a White Sox package with Quentin as the headliner could get the job done? I just think Choo's bat and glove would be the perfect complement to the current team. The Indians may be bad, but they aren't stupid. That would be an awful trade for them.
  23. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 09:20 AM) Per Facebook: Brent Morel Just got called up.. Flying to Boston to meet the team for a 3 game series against the red sox!! Thank you lord for this wonderful blessing. Maybe Beckham's hand isn't healing up as quickly as we had hoped?
