3 of the awards are basically already locked up: AL manager: Ron Washington NL manager: Bud Black AL ROY: Feliz The NL MVP is a lock between two guys: Votto & Pujols NL ROY: Posey seems to be running away with it, but I still think Garcia gets plenty votes for being a solid SP all season AL MVP: As discussed it seems to be between Hamilton & Cabrera. Both guys are having monster years, but I think Hamilton wins it, definitely helps that his team will make the playoffs. Both Cy Young races are so up for grabs, won't be decided until the end of the season. Several good candidates in both leagues. My picks right now are Wainwright & Sabathia. (Felix deserves it, but the voters love wins, and CC's best month is always Sept.)

Just heard a great stat on the Cubs/Reds broadcast. Joey Votto just tied Alex Rios for most go ahead RBIs in the majors this season with 26.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) LMAO business days? What is that nonsense? How are Saturday and Sunday not "business days" in baseball? Silly. See, I thought the whole Tuesday thing was out the window because he didn't clear waivers. Pshh. Seriously, I can't get over that fact. From April to September, every single team plays on every Saturday and Sunday, there are never days off on the weekend. Thats an extra two games the Sox could use him as the DH too.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) I remeber Joe Crede dropping an easy pop up and Manny hitting the next pitch about 400 feet to stright away left field. He crushes the ball in the cell and is as big a big game player as there is in baseball. I was at that game and remember just as well. Tied in the 9th and that was the game winner, ball left the park in a hurry.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) We are the mid 90s Cleveland Indians. we are gonna make 5 straight playoff appearances???? Score!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Oh. I didn't know that. I'll just assume it's a joke, then. I mean I'll feel dirty while cheering for Manny I guess, if we win it all, but it's still wrong to acquire this guy IMO. Maybe this will be good for me and help me be less a Sox/sports fanatic. My team hasn't done something this stupid in a long time. Haven't you noticed who has taken the majority of DH at-bats this season? That decision was way more stupid than acquiring Manny Ramirez would be.

QUOTE (BFirebird @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) So if KW is still the GM in 5 years...will he try this with Twins players from the 2000's like he does with Indians players from the 90's? he just joined he Twins this year, but a 37-year old Orlando Hudson getting picked up by KW in July 2015 would not surprise me in the least.

QUOTE (buckweaver @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) To the comment about A-Roid, I would guess plenty of Yankee fans would love for Alex to just go away, as I and others would really like for Manny to just stay away. Victory claimed by cheaters is hollow at best. I think you underestimate how much Yankee fans care about winning the WS.

QUOTE (bobryansson @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) 1. Is there any way LA says to just take him and the remaining $4mil? 2. Besides the cheating, he also quit on his team. Quit. 3. Is the rumor that he wanted a year added to his contract still alive? I'd hate to see that happen. 2. He needs to impress other teams to get a bigger contract for next season, I wouldnt worry about that.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) I'd like to think they are honoring Thomas for his performance and his class. He is praised throughout baseball and rightly so, for accomplishing his feats, without steroids. If Manny is here the same night Frank is honored ... that will be hilarious. Why are the Dodgers so eager to get rid of Manny? I thought less than a year ago he was king of LA? I hoipe this is just for a month and the bum is gone after that. What happens if helps carry the Sox to a WS title??? You don't let other posters say anything bad about Pods, Crede, Dye, etc. because they won a WS title here. Would you still call him a bum if he was World Series MVP?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:05 PM) So the White Sox are going to add a guy who has hair that violates team rules from what I read. And they are going to have a guy on the team who used roids on a day we are honoring Big Hurt. Mockery. Meh. Some of the players who helped Frank win his only World Series ring were probably on roids too.
-
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) The Dodgers are not going to play him if he is going to be moved. If he is injured they are on the hook for the contract. That is why he sat out yesterday afternoon. Also Pods is doing well and Furcal is out they need a leadoff man more than Manny right now. I meant more that Manny could be in a Sox uniform two days sooner, in case it takes til the deadline to make a move.
-
Whats awful is that the waiver deadlines don't include the weekends, even though every team plays on every Saturday & Sunday during the season. That adds two days to the process, the deadline to make a deal with LA would have been Sunday, instead of Tuesday.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) And why is Laroche not even in the picture? Does anyone think Kenny even asked AZ what they'd be willing to trade him for? I am disappointed KW didn't claim him, but I have a feeling they would want more than Hudson for him. He performed well there, he has a cheap buyout for 2011, so they wouldnt have to dump his salary like they did EJax, although I think they end up picking up his $7.5 mil option for next season. EJax was awful there this season, so they were probably more willing to get rid of him too.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) The Nats examined the Hell out of his arm before they signed him. I really think he was probably healthy almost right up until the point that he snapped it. Does that ligament just snap like that as a freak occurence similarily to Peavy's muscle? Or is it from wear and tear that builds up over time until it can't handle anymore? I always thought the Tommy John injuries don't just suddenly happen, they more come to fruition over time as the elbow/shoulder weakens, but I don't know if thats right or not. -

This is the big game of the weekend. I think the Sox should win on Sunday, but beating CC will be tough even with Danks on the mound. Winning Friday would give em a good chance to win the series. Freddy has been bad, but Burnett hasn't exactly been shutting teams down either. The bats need to step it up tonight. Someone send out the Manny signal into the sky!!!! -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) The problems you can also make a list of pitchers who were never the same. It's a complete unknown. Very true. I wasn't trying to say that he is guaranteed to come back a star, but its possible that he comes back just as good or better. -

The thing is, as advanced and successful that Tommy John surgery has become, he can still come back in 2012 and live up to all the hype and more. Look at the list of the guys that have had it and come back: Carpenter, J. Soria, Josh Johnson, Tim Hudson, R. Soriano, Arthur Rhodes, Billy Wagner Plus, look how good he pitched with the injured arm, imagine it healthy! -
