  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) Brandon Morrow has some of the absolute sickest stuff in baseball. Add that to the ever-expanding list of "WTF were they thinking?" moves by the Mariners
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 11:23 PM) Or is it simply the fact the White Sox are the only team in the division to win a World Series in a while and opponents simply want it more than the Sox do every single night when the teans play? Is it Ozzie getting outcoached by the other skippers? What is the reason for the White Sox ineptitude vs. the Central? This is the reason why right here: Sox are 7-4 vs. DET, but Cabrera, Damon & Coke have all won World Series, so they don't want it as much any more Sox are 8-7 vs. KC, but they had Podsednik for a while and his WS ring makes them care a little less Sox are 4-8 vs. CLE, and no one their roster has ever won a WS so they obviously just try harder than the Sox do Sox are 5-10 vs. MIN, Carl Pavano has won a ring, but he's only one starting pitcher, so the other players still want it more than the Sox Lets also disregard these facts: - Only 6 players on the Sox 25-man roster (24%) have even won a World Series - The Sox had a winning record vs. the Central every season from 2002-2008 (best division record in 2008) - They played their 12 games vs. CLE all before they started their winning streak, back when they were losing to everyone
  3. They can't start a DH at 3:00 cause of FOX's exclusive broadcast window. Why can't they have one game at 12 and one at 6?? That does not make sense. When division races get tight in September, they always talk about how one game makes the difference. Well, this game may be the difference. Because some douchebag let 20 minutes of baseball happen when the next 4 hours were guaranteed T-storms, the Sox have to start a reliever on the same day as their 5th starter. I hope Freddy does well, as do I hope that Pena can throw 4 or 5 good innings, but man, the Sox suddenly got stuck in a s*** position.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) lol@the Red Sox. Pedroia back on the DL. Ellsbury just got put back on the DL for like the 9th time this year. Cameron out for the year. Josh Beckett is doing his best Jamie Navarro impersonation. Yeah, they're done. It doesn't help when your best pitcher can't stop giving up 3-run homers to Lyle f***ing Overbay.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Interesting thing about this is that a team could theoretically lose on purpose to improve it's claiming position over the course of two days... So thats why Thornton threw that s*** pitch to Thome on Tuesday! Its all part of the master plan to get Manny.
  6. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) If you were to judge him only by his contract you wouldn't think that. 12/11/08: Signed a 2 year, $8.5M contract plus 2011 club option. 2009: $4M, 2010:$4M, 2011: $5M club option That reminds me about something stupid Hawk said. Cuddyer was up and he kept talking about how good he is and versatile he is since he can play so many positions. He said "I don't know how much money he makes, but I guarantee he is underpaid." Do some homework old man. Cuddyer is making $9.5 million in 2010 and $10.5 mil in 2011. He is a solid player but you sure as hell are not gonna pay him more than that at age 31.
  7. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) I'm amazed by how many people who still think the Angels are any good. They're not. I think they are the exact definiton of an average team. 61-61 on the season, 8-8 so far in the month of August.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) And for whatever reason don't we typically play the Yanks and Red Sox pretty well for the most part? I was thinking the same thing, but looking back at the numbers, they tell a different story. From 2005-2009, the Sox are 13-23 v. BOS & 14-22 vs. NYY. Against each team they have lost 4 of the season series and only tied once.
  9. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) According to someone with inside info in last night's game thread, there has been no interest on our side for him. This is has been discussed before, but as surprising it is that we have shown no interest, I am just as surprised that no other contender claimed him. There are several playoff teams that could use his bat, his salary and buyout are not extremely expensive. There has to be some other reason why no one would claim him.
  10. QUOTE (daggins @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) I've never heard of the first two pitchers KC is running out there. Prospects, scrap heap, other? edit - ohhhh yeah I remember paddy boy now. The other guy is 30 and doesn't look to be very good, but who knows. Bullington was the #1 overall pick in the 2002 draft by the Pirates. Just got his first career ML win on Sunday with 8 innings of 2-hit shutout ball vs. the Yankees.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) I would like to respond to the poster who said Oz should think outside the box. Was it thinking outside the box in '05 letting all those guys throw complete games? Every other manager would have brought in the closer, maybe even set up men, then closers. Oz let them finish the game and we benefited that postseason by it and won it all. Was that thinking outside the box? Damn right. No other manager would ever have let guys all throw complete games like that. We got a WS title as a result partly of his thinking outside the box. And don't say I'm living in '05. I reallize you all think that anyway. My point I feel is valid example of him thinking outside the box and it's the first one that came to my mind. Buehrle had thrown 91 pitches thru 8 innings in a 1-1 game. The other three guys had at least 3-run leads and had only thrown 100-105 pitches. I'm sure there are many other managers that would have kept them in the game (unless they had Mo Rivera in the bullpen). I'll give Ozzie credit for going with his gut and it worked out to be the right move, but don't act like he made some crazy decision that no one else in baseball would have made.
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) Over/under on the K's? 15
  13. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Berkman on DL Twins hopefully face Haren and King Felix and then also the Rangers Berkman on the DL and will miss next weekend.......... The Twins rotation looked bad in this series....maybe the innings are catching up to Carl. The Twins get both Haren & Weaver this weekend, Lee/Wilson/Lewis vs. Texas. It looks like they might miss King Felix though. Whats most important though is that the Sox get back on that winning track. They have six straight games against s*** teams, they need to win at least 5 of them before the Yanks come to town.
  14. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) No TCQ in a Must Win game. Mercy. 0-10 career vs. Pavano, & .192/.276/.378 split on the road this season. They need him to win the division, but I think I understand why he's not in there.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) Yeah go ahead and take away our Stanley Cup victory you morons. Since Pronger's contract is BS, take away Philly's conference championship too. Heck, just pretend like your highest rated Stanley Cup Finals in over 30 years never happened!
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) We have to play them three more after tonight? So even if we got back into it somehow the Thomes again would knock us back to earth. Amazing. For someone who gets so mad when people talk negatively about ex-players, you sure as hell are super negative about the current members of the team.
  17. QUOTE (qwerty @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Also his ops is 1.067 in wins and a measly .573 in losses. Wow. With splits like that, maybe he should be in the MVP discussion.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) To get into the mood he played this record... Awesome!
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) He tried to do it again, but realized he was down to his last bullet. Don't stop now boy
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 01:02 PM) Two gut wrenching losses in a row. They've scored 6 runs the last two nights, and they lost both games by 1 run. It's probably time they try to score 8 runs instead of 6. That's the worst part. The offense is scoring runs, both members of the awful DH platoon hit big homers (yes, I realize who hit the biggest one Tuesday), but it hasn't been enough. I hope MB can turn it up today, I have a feeling Sox don't get more than 3 vs. the porn stache, hope I'm wrong.
