Isn't August a historically bad month for Mark?
Yup, career ERA of 4.26 in August, April is the only other month over 4, with a 4.01. (Not counting his two awful March starts)

Teams can't play more than 21 (or 25?) games in a row. That would have been the case if they played last night.
Interesting, didn't know there was a rule like that. Although the doubleheader kinda cancels out the extra rest they got with Monday off, but whatever.
I'm still a bit confused as to why they scheduled a doubleheader today instead of playing the makeup game last night, since both teams were off and played day games on Sunday.
This salary cap s*** sucked, but the fact of the matter is the Hawks still return 8 of their 9 top regular season points leaders and their top four defensemen. Their lack of depth may cost them a few games, especially early, but its still a damn good hockey team thats not gonna give up the Cup without a good fight.
In Detroit the Bowmans always preferred to spend on defense, not on goaltenders and they stuck to that again. Chose to sign Hammer and lose Niemi for nothing, instead of signing Niemi and getting a few draft picks from SJ for Hammer.
Thanks for the Cup Antti.

What about Raul Ibanez? He'll have $11.5M due in 2011 along with ~$4M due this year. He's hitting really well lately(1.095 OPS since the ASB). I think if he clears waivers he could be a target.
With Victorino on the DL, the Phillies need him to play left field every day.

Is that comparable to football's 3 point home field advantage?
Not really an expert on it, but I'd guess its safe to say that the homefield is what pushed the line in TB's direction.

He's still a prospect that hasn't proven anything at the major league level. Sure he might dominate tonight but it's a stretch to think that he is favored to win. Besides, the Twins offense has been clicking.
Vegas has Tampa as a slight favorite to win tonight at -115

I expect to see the Cubs put a lot of their big contracts through waivers in a few weeks. The problem is that the Twins and the Tigers could easily block us and be better for it.
Which one of those big contracts would you like to pick up? Fukudome, Soriano, Zambrano, Ramirez??? I'm sure the Twins or Tigers would gladly let one of those guys pass through waivers if we are gonna try to pay their salaries.

I challenge anybody (mainly Kalapse) to name 5 better players since the second half of last year until now better than Carlos Gonzalez.
Robinson Cano, Albert Pujols, Adrian Gonzalez, Miguel Cabrera, Joey Votto

Now that I look at the box score valverde didnt even pitch Phil Coke blew it.
Valverde threw 61 pitches to close out Friday's win, so probably got Saturday off. He gave up a grand slam on Friday to Big Papi but Detroit still won the game.
Ortiz has 7 RBIs in the 9th inning of the last two games vs. Detroit

Wow, never did I think we'd see the Sox listed among baseball's 7 most powerful teams due to our financial resources...
If within two weeks you trade for a guy due like $15 million, then claim another guy due $13 million, that will put you up in that top 7 pretty quickly.

The only flaw is that it involves Mark Kotsay losing at-bats, which won't happen.
He has only started 2 of the last 7 games, so maybe, just maybe Ozzie is starting to realize he sucks.
I don't know much about the prospects but Buster Onley doesn't seem to think they gave up that much FWIW.
Buster_ESPN Observation: Love what the Dodgers did before the deadline. They clearly helped the team without giving up a lot.#trades
During the interview on MLB TV, Berkman said Linebrink was one of his good friends as well, which made him think twice about maybe coming to Chicago. Linebrink almost contributed something positive to the 2010 season!
