QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) What don't you get? A deeper system and maybe they would've wanted something besides Dayan? Or maybe you could afford to deal Dayan? Dayan is more valuable to us than he would be to other teams because he's just about all we have left. And I'm with guys like fathom. I'm thinking Tyler Flowers isn't quite the prospect we think he is. And more importantly I think the White Sox don't think he's that great a prospect. I understand that our system is weak. You just said that the Rays/Giants could have made the trade if they really wanted to. Obviously thats not true, cause they didn't wanna match the Nationals asking price, as the Sox didn't. If we had better prospects behind Dayan, it still doesn't mean that KW would have traded him for Dunn anyway.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) But the team won. I can't see how you and others can't see that something is working. Not every slot in the order is going to produce. I am all for dumping Kotsay. I want Viciedo as regular 3B/DH. But he's here and I think our manager is doing a good job, yes even with the lineups. Like I said recently one South Sider told me he liked Ozzie for never giving up on the team like Lou gave up on the Cubs. I never thought I would type these words: I completely agree with this post greg

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Like who? The Rays? Dunn would've been an upgrade. But that team is arguably the best in baseball. They don't need Dunn like we need Dunn. They or a team like the Giants could've easily landed him had they wanted to. I don't get this. The Sox could have easily landed him too, but they said no to Viciedo. Its not that they didn't want to. I'm sure the Giants wanted to as well, but the asking price was too high. And the Giants really, really need a bat, way more than the Sox do.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Guys as in one: Viciedo. They obviously didn't want Hudson or Flowers. And the rest of the system is a joke. Other teams like Tampa with much deeper systems couldn't get a deal done either. If the Sox system was deeper, then the Nats would ask for the best prospect that we wouldn't wanna trade anyway.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) I am happy. But our paper thin system really bit us in the ass. No it didn't. Our paper thin system had guys that the Nats wanted, but we refused to part with them cause the asking price was too high.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) I certainly am. Viciedo looks real good so far. And I REALLY hope it is true that Don Cooper WANTED Jackson here. Because if we only acquired him for the Nats, and got stuck w/ him, then that's pretty bad news. I'm gonna have to give KW the benefit of the doubt that he actually liked EJax and didn't simply trade for him to give to the Nats without doing a 3-team deal.

LOL, Braves get Rick Ankiel & Kyle Farnsworth from KC

QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) I still like Edwin Jackson as the #5 for this year and next more than I like Hudson. The Sox improved yesterday. For $8 million I really, really hope you are right.

Joelsherman1: With less than 90 mins to deadline it will be interesting: Friend of #Whitesox GM Williams said to me yest: "He is leaving this deadline with a hitter, probably Dunn, but someone for sure." Tick, tock EDIT: Didn't realize he said yesterday, doesn't really mean anything.

QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) im sick of seeing the bases loaded with 1 or 0 out and the 5th/6th batter in the order coming up being Kotsay or Pierzynski.. its a total inning killer See the 1st inning of last night. I called the GIDP and AJ delivered.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) it's an unpopular opinion, but one I share with you. Its an opinion that I believe the Bowmans shared as well. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 01:14 PM) OH NO! The Riot's fanbase mourns! All females aged 15-22 from the North Suburbs??

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:16 PM) Even if he heals completely from this calf injury, he's in that position where straining a muscle for him might be as regular of a behavior as getting out of bed. He could probably strain a muscle while doing that. If thats the case, then its probably best to stay away. At his age, with his steroid history, I doubt his muscles are in the best shape. Especially if he got hurt after one game off the DL last month.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) The Cardinals just gave up a guy with an .827 OPS to get Jake Westbrook. They must really not like Ludwick. They must really like Jon Jay, but I doubt he's gonna keep up his .396 BA or 1.051 OPS. A Cardinals fan friend of mine posted on FB: "Great, now we have four pitchers who can lose games 1-0 since we can't score any runs."

Manny's injury worries me cause it sounds like it could come back at any time. But if that checks out, I would love the move. Clubhouse issues don't worry me with Ozzie in the clubhouse and Manny will have all the motivation in the world. He's a FA after the season and right now very few teams would be willing to give him much next year. He needs a great end of the season to show teams that he can still be a difference-maker in the middle of the lineup or he could be done.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) Rosenthal tweeting that Westbrook to the Cardinals all but done, going through the union for approval It's official, 3-team deal. Westbrook to STL, Ryan Ludwick to SD, prospects to CLE.

Niemi's arbitration number came in at $2.75 million. Hawks may have to make a minor move, but I think thats very doable. Sounds like the Finnish Fortress may be around for one more season. -
QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) Jose Valverde threw 60 (!!!!) pitches, 28 strikes, to nail down the win for the Tigers tonight Threw 5 walks, gave up a grand slam to Big Papi, but luckily they were up five runs, so they still pulled out the win.

Went to the game tonight and couldnt believe how bad attendance was. Under 30,000 on a Friday night, team in first place, and its mullet night!!! Kid Rock & Bon Jovi may have stolen some fans, but the upper deck should not have been 2/3 empty.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) I dont expect the Sox to make a move on every big name player out there, thats not what I am arguing. Im saying that the Sox need a better farm system so when they need to make a move like going after Cabrera, Dunn, Fielder, they can do so with prospects left over to help the team in the future still. You cannot deny that next season the Sox will have a lot of holes to fill with a limited payroll, and all of a sudden youre looking at 2007 again. Thats why they are gonna trade for Adam Dunn and win the World Series! Then a rough year like 2007 will be much easier to handle next season.

QUOTE (G&T @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Stone says that Washington views Jackson as a closer. Nothing beats a closer with major control problems

FWIW, From ESPN chat: Comment From Woj] I sometimes don't understand Kenny Williams- Why did he have to give up 2 good prospects and take on $10.5 million in future money. Houston gave $11 million and the prospects in return were nothing special. Why didn't the Sox get money in the deal? Jason A. Churchill -- MLB Draft Blog/Rumor Central: Hudson is not a future No. 1 or anything and Holmberg, the second arm going to Arizona, is widely considered a No. 3 or 4 starter at best. So they didn't exactly send elite talent to the D-backs in return for Jackson. Plus, the idea may be to flip Jackson to Washington for Dunn, which cancels out most if not all of the future money. But even Philly is taking on some salary, they didn't get Oswalt for FREE. Jason A. Churchill -- MLB Draft Blog/Rumor Central: Law on Hudson: No. 4 starter in the NL.

If Harrell is starting, don't the Sox have to make a corresponding roster move? Since they already made the EJax trade, he takes Hudson's spot on the 25-man. Either someone has to be sent down or another trade needs to be made. Am I right or am I missing something?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) So if we get Dunn, who the f*** will pitch for us? That is assuming Jackson is going to the Nats. Pedro Martinez? Convince him to change his mind about not pitching in 2010
