  1. I remember hearing that Escobar has been grinding Bobby Cox's gear for a while with his struggles, mental lapses, and attitude, so I bet that played a major part on it. Jon Heyman's twitter: SI_JonHeyman bobby cox has to be thrilled to be rid of underachieving space cadet yunel escobar. alex gonzalez is a nice early going away gift for cox.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) I'm not too optimistic about what's to come for Thornton, he needs rest, he needs to regain that dominance he had earlier in the year. If these trends that I put up continue, Thornton might end up with some very bad outings in the future in some big games. We don't want that. The last game before our streak started comes to mind, when he came in a 2-2 game vs. DET and just got blown up. The thing is, he didn't pitch for a week after that and hasn't given up a run since.

  4. I'm a fan of a lot of Joe Posnanski's work, but he wasn't happy with Thornton in the game last night:
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) Korver just had his press conference. He said he as in contact with Boozer previous to signing and that he has been texting Ronnie Brewer to come and play in Chicago. He jokingly said "Were trying to start the Chicago Jazz." If we do get Redick, the last 2 pieces I'd like to see the Bulls add are a backup PG (Livingston) and a defensive/athletic 2 guard (Brewer). PG - Rose/Livingston SG - Redick/Brewer SF - Deng/Korver/Johnson PF - Boozer/Gibson C - Noah/Asik I know that because of the douchey mcdouchersons down in Miami, this roster probably won't win the Bulls a title, but I still like what I see. Its gonna be an entertaining and competitive basketball team that could make it at least a little bit interesting come playoff time. I'd rather be in NBA hell with this team, then tank the next few years, just to get rejected by FAs and still be a bad basketball team like the Knicks are.
  6. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) Of all the places for a rich ass athlete to go on campus LOL. I don't think they can be considered your typical rich ass athletes, they are about as hillbilly as they come. When Oswalt negotiated his last contract, he asked for and received a brand new tractor (or bulldozer) from the 'Stros.
  7. You guys do realize that CQ was an essential part of our divisional title in 2008 (until he got hurt). If he led the Cubs to a divison title, they would be worshipping him, not talking about how bad his defense was.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 09:54 AM) R.I.P. On a side note we'll be hearing the rest of the year how the Yanks will be a team of destiny, winning one more for ol' George. and with Sheppard passing away two days ago, the team of destiny talk will definitely be out in full force R.I.P.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) He averaged 22 minutes a game over 73 games for the Trailblazers last season and put up a PER of 10.0, which isn't half bad for a backup. Wow, impressive, I thought he would be out of the league like C-Webb. All he has to do for Miami is take up space in the lane on defense and grab an occasional rebound, which it sounds like he should be able to. Ugh, I keep hating the Heat more and more.
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) That Heat roster is looking pretty good. PG Chalmers SG Wade SF James PF Bosh C Haslem SF Miller PF Howard PG Dooling (probably re-signing) They're only a couple of guys away... Juwan Howard?? I thought he was already retired, does he even have anything left?
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) Elvis Andrus and Alex Gonzalez have been just as good, if not better. I have more of an issue with Jeter hitting second when Carl Crawford and Robinson Cano are hitting 8th and 9th. I agree about the lineup, Cano is an MVP candidate, should be way higher in the lineup. If they didn't have to take any shortstops, I don't think any of those 3 make it, so I can't really complain about Jeter being on the roster.
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) 2. Jeter SS (He doesn't really deserve to be in the game, let alone hitting second...) I agree Jeter is not having his best year, but take a look at the list of AL shortstops this year, it doesnt get much better.
  13. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) So last Friday night, me and a few buddies went to a couple of bars in Lincoln Park. The first one was McGee's and for me, it really was not the type of bar I enjoy. Too F'in loud, too collegey even though that's my age range. I prefer a more laid back bar, which is the one across the street whose name I do not know. Anyone got some bar suggestions or just ones you like? McGee's = awfulness. I used to go when I first graduated college for the $25 all you can drink specials, but now I can't imagine ever stepping foot in that place again.
  14. Since you can't strike out, Chris Young
  15. Here's the video of Beach and Olimb fighting for the 2nd time, looks like Olimb falls wrong on his shoulder.
  16. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 04:36 PM) The Bulls are working out Adam Morrison in Vegas tomorrow also apparently via Alex Kennedy. Awesome! We can be the 2005-06 NCAA All-star team!
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) Have the Twins announced their rotation after the break? MLB.com has Slowey, Liriano, Pavano, Blackburn
  18. Rogers being more realistic about next move and Kyle Beach already kicking ass and taking names, albeit one of his new teammates. ESPNChiHawks sharp, campbell, niemi...exploring all possibilities....niemi most likely if one doesnt return..then Campbell then sharp. blog tonight oh, and beach knocked this olimb guy out for 4 months. They fought twice over weekend and beach kind of jumped him 2nd time. Shoulder I think. Foreign media actually reported it
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) They're not moving Sharp, I absolutely do not buy that. I believe the Niemi era ended today though. I agree. I keep seeing Rogers mention that for some reason, but knowing what I know about the Bowmans, no way they get rid of Sharp to keep a goalie at a higher price
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Hawks matched. 4 is coming back. Awesome! Some more rumors popping up about the Hawks needing to make more moves: Real_ESPNLeBrun With Hawks deciding to match Hjalmarsson offer, source said today Brian Campbell being shopped. Have hard time seeing that contract moved. My ESPNChicago colleague Jesse Rogers believes Patrick Sharp could be in play as well now and he's much more easily moveable... We'll see Hawks can shop Campbell all they want, I just don't think his contract is move-able even though he's a good player.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:46 PM) Luther Head played the best of anyone on that team Um, hello? Did any of you guys actually watch that team? Nick Smith was on that team. 85 inches of pure basketball greatness. End of discussion.
  22. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) Stoney's great. Hawk, not so much. Although I love his home run call. Best in baseball. That said, publications like GQ are very East-coast centric so it doesn't surprise me that they'd pick on somebody like us. Hey, fun fact: in Texas, the Rangers games are broadcast on FM! I had the Sox/Rangers tuned in as I the game early there. It was STRANGE, it not being on AM. Same thing in Milwaukee. Whenever I drive to Wisco for the weekend, I always find the Brewers games on FM and catch some Bob Uecker for a while. Kinda sucks with him being out now.
  23. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) If he wasn't so bad at defense, he wouldn't have had to make such a crazy catch.
