  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:05 AM) i won't take this fantastic fit for our team because you went to a college I don't like. LOL, Illini fans are all about that. "He went to Duke or Kansas??? Ugh, I don't want him on my team" I'd take Bill Self as coach of the Bulls if he can win an NBA title.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) Its a financial term that has to do with selling something you don't own. You don't own it, er go you are short it. It is mainly used in stock and commodities trading. Yeah, I gotcha, it makes sense, but it's just so annoying. The owners accepted our bid a month ago, but now we are still sitting back waiting for the bank to approve or reject it. I just want an answer so I can tell my dog if he's finally gonna have a backyard or not, lol.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 09:59 AM) Aren't Peavy & Oswalt best friends or very good friends? I remember a few years ago, Peavy, Oswalt, & Brad Penny were all at Kam's together in Champaign. I guess they were on a hunting trip somewhere in the area.
  4. Why the f*** do they call it a "short" sale, if it takes so damn long for the bank to respond??????
  5. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) Anyone catch last night's Sunday Conversation? Rachel Nichols asked LBJ if he had talked to the Cavs before announcing The Decision. He said no, he hadn't spoken to them, but then he hadn't spoken to anyone about it. The whole process was really difficult for him, and he wanted Thursday "to be about me." You can't make this s*** up. Wow, he is something else. I still can't believe he couldn't call someone in the Cavs organization at 7:59 PM, and tell them what his decision was. No, they have to wait til the rest of the country finds out. I don't agree with the way Gilbert released the letter, but I completely understand.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) Of at least six games... I guess in baseball it is a lot harder than it sounds. There's always that one game or two every week that gets away from you that you can't do anything about. In 2008, they swept a 7-game homestand (3-KC, 4-MIN), but skimming the schedules as far back as 1990, I couldn't find another one. (I heart baseballreference.com)
  7. I started a World Cup pool, got about 30 friends to sign up, and I won the whole damn thing! Who does that?
  8. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) PS if we're going way under the radar on young guys I want to know what Toronto would ask for Lind. That dude can be scary even though he's not doing too great now. With Lind's cheap contract, I'm sure Toronto will ask for at at least one of CQ, Beckham, or Danks, if not more
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) Dont' the Sox have lots remaining with both teams? by my count 13 games left vs. both Detroit & Minnesota
  10. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 08:46 AM) Keith Law really does hate the White Sox. Just heard on the Score that Law doesn't think this run means much because they played a bunch of s***ty teams. Maybe he forgot to mention that the Sox went 11-2 against above .500 teams in Detroit, Anaheim, Atlanta, and Texas. Yeah, half the games they played were against good teams. Seriously, this guy really lets his hatred for this team blind his judgment. You still have to beat the teams on your schedule anyway. Almost half of the Sox remaining games are against s***ty teams too, should they just not play those??? In June the Twins went 1-6 vs. Seattle & Milwaukee, if they could beat those s***ty teams they would be in 1st right now.
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 10:44 PM) Only the 6th perfect homestand in White Sox history per Bruce Levine . There's one for you Statmandu. Really??? I'm not doubting it, but its hard to believe that in about 110 years of baseball, they only had 6 perfect homestands??? Wow.
  12. I'm a fan of Oswalt, but his contract makes this a bad idea. With him, Mark, & JFP, that would be nearly $45 million locked up in 3 starters next season. If the Astros were to offer up some $$$, it could work, but then they would want much better prospects too.
  13. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) I think Teahen can do pretty much anything Kotsay can do... Can he play first? I'd love to see him take over the backup 1b/DH role and send Kotsay packing. Maybe we can trade him to KC for Brian Anderson to bolster our bullpen of the future.
  14. 12 seasons, 6 playoffs with Cleveland. 3.5 seasons, 1 playoff with the Sox. Absolutely no way he doesn't wear an Indians hat
  15. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) If re-signing Nik costs you the chance to re-sign Niemi, I'd take the 1st and 3rd and move on and try to sign another defender. But hopefully we can find a way to keep both going forward. I disagree, I think re-signing Hjalmarsson is more important than Niemi. He's shown that he can be a great #3 defenseman, $3.5 is not a bad number, and he is only 23. I'd rather sign him and take the chances that Niemi changes his mind and take a more reasonable longer contract. If not, just hope that the arbitration number isn't too high and you don't have to lose him. Worst comes to worst, go with Crawford or Toivonen and sign a cheap old vet like Turco to mentor them or maybe he can catch one last good year.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) I think I'm done with the NBA. Seriously. The same mistakes get made over and over... blatantly obvious mistakes, such as giving Tyrus Thomas $40 million to be the least efficient player on the court. Then the owners b**** and b**** about how the players make too much money and will threaten to lockout next year. That is all after they give Tyrus $40 mil, Brendan Haywood $55 mil, Travis Outlaw $35 mil, etc., etc.
  17. Interesting tweets from Jesse Rogers today: (proofread) At prospects camp. Can't answer all questions. They have to choose. Will lose one more name guy in my opinion. Antti or hammer Course that's only if u lock niemi up. If u think u go to arb then match hammer and pray arb award is real low or walk away Or trade sharp who could be gone in 2 yes. And keep hammer and niemi long term. At least 4. No good answer. Thks Dale. Lol
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) By "soon" I mean right after the World Series, we won't make it more than a few days into the exclusive negotiating period before he's locked up. Any team that had plans to go hard after him this offseason won't even get a chance to talk to him. Gotcha. Then I agree 100%. Cleveland fans will feel even better today, seeing the old aces of their staff together heading the rotation of the best team in baseball, while they have Fausto Carmona.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) Looks like it's going to be Montero, David Adams + 1. The Yankees will almost undoubtedly lock him up and I'd imagine soon for a price tag in the range of Sabathia but fewer years: 5/$115M would be my guess. They will sign him in the offseason, but I guarantee they won't do it during the year. That's their policy, and if they won't change it for Jeter or Rivera, I'm sure Lee will be no different.
  20. If the Hawks declined to match it for some reason, they would get a 1st & a 3rd round pick. They already have 6 picks in the 1st 3 rounds in 2011 anyway. Yeah, I see no way they don't sign him, he is only 23 too.
  21. CNBC is reporting that LeBron's camp paid Jim Gray to do the interview, not ESPN. Maverick Carter = best business manager EVER. Reporter Jim Gray Paid By LeBron Entity, Not ESPN
  22. From TSN's Bob McKenzie I'd be happy to sign him to that contract, I think he's worth $3.5 mil, especially with how well him & Campbell play together. Suck it San Jose.
  23. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) Call me crazy, but I think I don't think if a Lebron could have been added to the 95-96 Bulls, they necessarily win more than the 72, or that those titles would still be locks. The NBA certainly is different than other hoops, but its still a game where the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts. Those titles would still be locks, cause #23 would have looked at LeBron dancing and said "Get the f*** outta my way kid. I'm gonna go win another ring right now."
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 10:42 AM) True but he still is a frequent no-show in the post season. Some years he looks great but other years he looks like Dewayne Wise. No doubt, but that also can happen to any player too. Thats why I agree that they may be the better team, but anything can happen in a playoff series.
  25. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) Especially since their best hitter is a frequent no-show in the post season. Especially since he has a higher career OPS in the postseason than he does in the regular season.
