  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 09:12 AM) I like what you are saying, but this is an effort in futility. He wont stop, just let it go I know, I know. I just can't help it!!!
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) If anybody considered Thome a whipping boy ... Wow. It got to me wondering after seeing Thome mentioned. Are there any players in Sox history who are beloved on this board? Who do you unequivocally love from the past? Frank? It seems like people on the board do love him. I seem to recall reading some negative stuff about him the last year or 2 of his career. Maybe I'm wrong. Paulie? He got torn into two seasons ago when he didn't hit. And some have said they'll gladly bag on him if he starts to suck at any point. Maggs?: I think he's been mocked on here. The last two Aprils when David Ortiz was barely hitting half his weight, do you think Red Sox nation was saying "Oh, its OK, he won us two World Series, go ahead and strike out 3 times a day" Are Braves fans not saying one bad thing about how much Chipper Jones has fallen off? Criticizing a player's current performance doesn't change your overall impression of them. 20 years from now, White Sox fans will talk about how great Paulie was when he was here, how he hit the biggest home run in Sox history, not when he sucked in 07. Dye will be remembered for having some of the best years of his career here and winning the WS MVP. That shouldn't stop people from not wanting him on the 2010 team cause he was the worst hitter in baseball in Aug & Sept. of 2009. If Cal Ripken were to take over as manager of the Orioles, and they were to suck as bad as they do now, what do you think the fans would be saying?? "This is not Cal's fault at all, cause I love him from the past so much. I won't blame him at all" Hell no, they will criticize him for the bad managing decisions he is making. It won't change the fact that he is still their favorite player and will always be a beloved Oriole. White Sox fans want the team to be successful right now, and if they disagree with what the manager is doing, they have the right to say so, no matter who he is. Ripken, Banks, & Williams are all in the Hall of Fame and Santo is a borderline candidate. Stop f***ing comparing them to Crede, Pods, & Garland.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) Wow, Jackie Tavener goes 5-5 with three triples in a game in 1925 and yet doesn't score a run. His team's offense must have been very similar to ours... Did he have Omar Vizquel in his lineup too??? That was his rookie season, right?
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) I was ok with moving Buff. I was ok with moving Steeger. But Ladd....that one will sting. I was really hoping he'd stick around. Vishnevskiy's got some potential though. They Ice Hogs will be a fun team to watch. Hopefully they will have a goalie with a ton of NHL experience too.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Ehhhhhhhh.... He hasn't looked nice all season. I know that's not going to last forever, as he's going to get back to his career averages sooner or later, but I don't know... Even if he doesn't revert to his career norms, his numbers this year would still look better in the middle of our lineup than Kotsay's do.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) Where have they been the last few years with him? Votto needed a season like this for Cincy to finally get national recognition. Well deserved. If they didn't have him and only had Rolen this year, they wouldn't be in the same position anyway. Either way, I agree on your second point. Votto has been getting better and better every year and is finally starting to get his due, albeit not as much as he deserves.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) Albert has gone through some tough stretches this year. Rolen has been awesome and clutch. How often are the Reds in this position in July? They would be nowhere without him. He's finally healthy. Votto has more runs, hits, HRs, RBIs, SBs, higher BA, OBP, OPS. Rolen has more doubles & his slugging % is about six points higher. Votto's WAR is 2.9, Rolen's is 2.2. I don't doubt Rolen has been a huge key to their success and he's great story, but where the f*** would they be without Votto?
  8. TSNBobMcKenzie CHI just adds some toughness. Signs John Scott to a two-year contract. Don't really know him. Was a defenseman in Minnesota the last two years, seems to be a hard-ass D-man. 6-8, 258, thats a big boy.
  9. QUOTE (maki @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 04:21 PM) It looks like this already. If you look at the available dates for the BoSox, just the ALDS says recent market activity on games 1 and 3, but only 3 is available now. Yeah, for ALCS only 3 & 4 are there, World Series Game 4 only. There is no link for the Yankees at all.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 04:12 PM) Is this only open for a specific time frame? I didn't catch a deadline. You can basically wait until the team is guaranteed to be playing in the series??? The latest possible closing times for each 2010 Postseason Ticket Reservation marketplaces are: •2010 Division Series: Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 11:59 pm ET. •2010 League Championship Series: Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 11:59pm ET. •2010 World Series: Wednesday, October 21, 2010 at 11:59pm ET.
  11. Reds up 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 10th. If they blow this, scoring only 3 runs on 16 f***ing hits will be a good reason why.
  12. Vishnevskiy has been playing on the Wolves the past few months. He has played in 5 total NHL games, but already has this gem to his credit (from Wikipedia). Oops.
  13. TSNBobMcKenzie Darren Dreger reports Ivan Vishnevsky and a second-round pick to CHI for Ladd. That sucks way harder than the Byfuglien & Versteeg trades, but what are you gonna do?
  14. TSN reporting that Andrew Ladd is being traded to Atlanta....not official yet, but getting close.
  15. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) I might get flamed here but what would people think about bringing in Nabokov and taking the draft pick(s) for someone else signing Niemi. I believe it was McKenzie on Twitter who said a team who everyone expects to have their goaltender set may be a darkhourse for Nabokov. If someone offers Niemi $5.5 mil & you can sign Nabokov for $3 mil, then yeah it makes sense, especially with the several draft picks. But Nabokov is probably gonna command the same amount of money, is 6-7 years older and has had less succes in the playoffs than Niemi.
  16. Chase Utley will have surgery on his thumb, out 5-6 weeks
  17. Sharks sign Antero Nittymaki, 2 yrs., $4 million. I'm thinking he will be the starter to replace Nabokov, can't say that scares me at all.
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) Masset has been terrible again this year. He was actually great last year, 2.37 ERA, 1.03 WHIP in 76 innings, but yeah, major suckfest this season.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 11:29 AM) I'm lovin' me some Bill Simmons lately. His Sabermetics article a few months back was a masterpiece. More good stuff: sportsguy33 Joe Johnson in Magic sweep w/ Vince/Barnes/Pietrus defending him: 12.8 PPG, 30% FG, 9-39 3FG, 19 FTA. His team quit by Game 3. $119 million? sportsguy33 Paul Pierce (also a 2010 FA) vs. Vince/Pietrus/Barnes 1 round later: 6 games, 24.3 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 51.2% FG, 13-29 3FG, 56 FTA.
  20. LOL @ Bill Simmons: sportsguy33 "Hey Joe Johnson - thanks for leading us to that 4-game 2nd round sweep when we lost by 20+ per game. Here's $119 million."
  21. Sergei Gonchar signs with the Senators, 3 years, $16.5 million. Probably the best D-man FA out there, although he is 36
  22. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 10:33 AM) Every guy we traded as a sole player alone was replaceable but as a group I think it is going to be hard to replace that much and expect to be right back where you were. Having Kane, Toews, Sharp, & Hossa up front, with Keith & Seabrook on the blue line makes it much, much easier
