  1. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) Maybe this year AJ is Kotsay-like, but I think he's a better hitter than Mark Kotsay in general. But, I agree that he's valued more overall because of his ability to call and catch a good game. AJP Career : .284/.324/.425, OPS+ 94 Kotsay Career: .279/.336/.412, OPS+ 98
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 08:50 AM) Those bonuses for Kaner and Toews are going to be a big problem. The Kyle Beach era is about to begin, and they had better just eat the 11 millionish left on Huet's contract. I'm hoping the same with Huet's contract, although throwings away $11 million is tough, even for the Wirtz family. Maybe a team will take a trade for him if we pay half the salary or so, thats better than nothing. I think Beach & Jack Skille are gonna be in Chicago full-time next year. I'm resigned to that fact the Sharp will be gone and I will need to buy a new jersey, since he has the most value, but I hope not. I would push hard to trade Byfuglien, especially after his value skyrocketed after the past month or two. I don't see him him producing a full season of what he did in the playoffs.
  3. I really enjoy watching Marmol pitch nowadays. The lack of control can be annoying, but man, when he gets that slider going and makes a 12-year vet look like a Little Leaguer, thats some nasty stuff.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 11:44 PM) I assume this is a joke. I would think it was. Since it wasn't in green ... Crede didn't ask to have back trouble. I hope you never have back trouble. I have a friend who needed back surgery and the doctor f***ed it up and he has to use a cane at the age of 34. Crede didn't ask for his back to fall apart. If Crede was a Cub, he'd be like Santo to their fan base. He was a KEY FACTOR in us winning it all. Cubdom would worship him. Ugh, you keep comparing 05 Sox players to the best players in Cub history, when they aren't even close to the same situation. Ron Santo is a borderline HOF player who spent his whole 15 year career on the North Side, but stopped playing 36 years ago. Joe Crede would never be close to sniffing a HOF vote, but is a player still trying to play in the majors, so he is being discussed in context to the present day. No one here ever says Crede did nothing to help us win the 05 title, I wish he never played here. Sox fans will always remember him for his contributions to a WS title and 9 solid seasons here, especially even more as time passes. But they will also remember that a back injury kept him from reaching his full potential unfortunately.
  5. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pac-10 tried to pick up Utah to even out their conference at 12 teams. Either way I'm sure they cant be happy from almost landing UT, OU, etc., to just adding powerhouse Colorado.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) Well with the talk already starting to shift to Hawks free agency and salary cap issues, it is time to open this up. DEFENDING STANLEY CUP CHAMPS b****ES!!!! It's sweet, sweet music to my ears!!!
  7. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) hahaha a lisp. . . really? No he's drunk. Kaner has every right to act like a 21 y/o douchebag, we've all been there. I get it, he's happy and jolly and eager (not Ben) to celebrate the biggest accomplishment of his life. But that doesn't change the fact that he's a 21 y/o douchebag. We all probably got away with it because we're not super famous athletes, but he is a super famous athlete and he acted like a 21 y/o douchebag. If it were me, I would keep my social proclivities on the down low and present a decent image to the public. He didn't do that . . . he acted like a 21 y/o douchebag. Some people won't care about his douchebag antics, some people will love his douchebag antics, and some people will won't like his douchebag antics (as illustrated by this thread). His behavior bothered me, but not nearly enough to make me dislike him or ruin my excitement over winning the cup. my .02 So would you say he's a 21 y/o douchebag???
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) Its not about being cheap, it is about staying under the cap. The Hawks will be at the cap again next year, you can bet on that. I don't doubt that the Hawks will be as close to the cap limit as possible, and I know Scotty Bowman will help them maneuver around that. I'm just saying that if Huet is not counting against that cap, then that will be $5 million that Rocky will basically be throwing away. It would make the hockey team better, but its still a tough financial decision to make.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 09:46 AM) I've got an idea. Let's change the subject back to winning the Stanley Cup! Also, what's next? It's clear one of Steeger/Sharpie is going to have to go, and I pray it's Versteeg. Also, do the Hawks send Huet to Rockford to give the roster some flexibility or just buy him out outright? The goalie decision will be interesting. Niemi might end up costing $3 or 4 million, so you have to decide how much he is worth. Rocky has shown that he is not as cheap as his dad, but just throwing away $5 million by sending Huet to the minors is not an easy business decision either way. I agree 100% that Versteegiak is the one I would like to see go. For all his fancy moves, he seems to make a lot of dumb hockey decisions with the puck. Sharpie definitely needs to stay and they need to resign Hjalmarsson as well. I think they should try to trade Big Buffs. His trade value will never be higher and his inconsistencies make me question if he can produce like that for an entire season.
  10. It doesn't matter if he's 21 years old, 41, or 61. The fact is that he is a professional athlete who is paid an exorbitant amount of money to play hockey. Part of that contract requires him to portray a positive image in public of himself and of the Blackhawks organization. No matter what we think, I'm sure Rocky & McDonough pulled him aside and gave him a talking to about it. Does that mean he is not allowed the same transgressions as a normal 21 year old? Yeah, but thats part of the gig. Good times last night with the Cup at Wrigley. Awesome to see Ozzie hoisting it, although it seemed like Q did not want to give it to him. Very cool pic of the Hawks, Cubs, & Sox all together with the Cup. Rumor was that they were bringing the Cup to Sluggers after the game, so I ended up staying out way too late, paying for it today. A guy I know was at Sluggers Thursday night when they showed up and was randomly picked to drink out of the cup and hoist it. Lucky bastard.
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) aTm wants the SEC. I don't get that. The SEC is a powerhouse, but wouldn't the Aggies be better served staying with their in-state rivals???
  12. If JFP and Mark can pitch all season like they did this weekend, then yeah, we might have a chance to compete in the division. Then again, they faced an awful NL lineup, and Silva had already been 8-0 vs the lesser htting league.
  13. I will be there tonight. Even though both teams kinda suck, still have to love Cubs/Sox in prime time on ESPN. Of course, there will be a certain shiny cup there as well.
  14. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) The Tim Howard/Robert Green comparisons to the MLB, NFL and NHL really irk the living s*** out me. Twitter was absolutely UNBEARABLE this afternoon. I don't know what you mean, which comparisons they were making, but dude cost England two points on a ball that basically every other World Cup goalie would stop. In the long run, I'm sure that England advances to the 2nd round, but that was absolutely awful, in a game that England played better and he cost them two points.
  15. What made me laugh was that the media seemingly encouraged all the drinking the whole time. I heard so many jokes about how dehydrated they were and blah, blah, blah, so it definitely didn't concern the media very much. Kane definitely did not need to be that sloshed when he spoke at the rally, but whatever. The Cup will be at Wrigley tommorrow night, should make the night much more fun while Floyd shuts s*** down. Seriously though, I really, really, really want the Sox to take that BP Cup. After the 4 Hawks are on the Leno show Monday night, how many days until Chicago realizes they dont care about hockey until next May again???
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) Jayson Nix gets the IBB. Again, I hate the NL. Soto has a .265 avg., but a .405 OBP with 32 walks. Its not that he has suddenly become more patient, its just that he has been hitting in fornt of the pitcher all the time.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) Wow, a ton of what-ifs are going through my mind. LIke what if Bolland didnt return from his back injury for the playoffs, what if Soup didnt heal quickly. Its crazy how the pieces came together. What if that rebound didn't bounce directly towards Kane with 13.9 seconds left vs. Nashville???
  18. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) Can't let wells settle in. or sober up
  19. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) They're gonna wait for BlackHawks to come throw out the first pitch. Tribune says its because of the threat of thunderstorms, 1st pitch at 1:40
  20. Kaner could barely keep his eyes open, wasted. Early crowd estimate is 2 million people, Sox had 350k. Those numbers are usually high at the beginning though, but thats still a lot of people.
  21. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Thats a good point. I never thought of the time zone differences. I remember last season LSU opened at Washington at 10pm on ESPN. LSU really controlled the game for the first 3 quarters but really tired in the 4th. You also have to look at it the other way. An 11 AM start in Austin is 9 AM on the west coast, which is super early.
