  1. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) Awful? As in tough to win? Cuz i think it's the best conference tourney there is. Often you have multiple legit championship threats and its at MSG. Doesnt get much better, but of course as a UConn fan I'll admit i'm biased. For a college basketball fan, its awesome, so many great basketball teams, so many good games. For the teams, it sucks, especially since some have to win 5 games in 5 days. Making it a 20 team tourney would make it that much more difficult and harder on the players.
  2. I voted for Lord Stanley's Cup. Besides the physical drain the playoffs take on players, there is so much randomness and luck involved in hockey. A team can outplay another for 60 minutes, but one or two unlucky bounces/rolls, and that team could easily lose. Thats why there are so many upsets in the playoffs, the best team is never guaranteed to win. s***, if the puck bounced slightly differently away from Kaner in game 5 back in April, the Hawks would have been down 3-2 headed to Nashville.
  3. A 20-team Big East?? Their basketball tournament is already awful, with that many teams, it might be tougher than the actual tourney. That would be a b**** for regular season scheduling too.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) Cardinals statistically have one of the better bullpens in baseball. They have 2 or 3 rooks in their rotation now. The Cardinals seem to be one of those teams that always has a solid bullpen, no matter who they throw out there. Either La Russa knows when/where to place them or they just have the best pitching coach in baseball.
  5. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) Her soon to be husband, and a catcher in the organization. Gotcha. That was kind of a joke towards the swear filter, but good luck to the future Mr. & Mrs. Blackwood and I hope to see Chase in a White Sox jersey in the near future.
  6. So in order to get your name on the Stanley Cup, you either need to play in 41 regular season games or one Stanley Cup Final game. Cam Barker played in 51 games this year, does he get his name on the cup even though he wasn't on the team anymore? I assume rules for goalies are different, so the Cup should read Cristobal Huet. The Hawks have the first Finnish & French goalies to win the Cup.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) Lived up to the advanced billing. Both pitchers were outstanding, with Johnson being a little bit better. The supply of young, premier SP's in baseball (the NL in particular) seemingly runs on forever. I know today they faced Josh Johnson today, but what has happened to Philly's offense??? They have been pretty awful for the most part the last month.
  8. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) So I just got off the phone with a fellow employee who works out of the Philadelphia area. Years ago, I found out he's a big Sox fan, so ever since then, whenever we get the chance, we talk sports, and mostly it's the Sox. But the past week we've been talking about the Stanley Cup final (he's a Flyers fan). He said the local radio stations over there are giving Roenick crap for crying on tv last night. Stuff like "well, he played for both teams, what's his deal?" and "it's not like you were from Chicago". I found it pretty funny to hear things from the other perspective. They had him on M & H this morning on the Score, and he basically made it sound like he would have cried too if the Flyers had won the Cup. Just seeing anybody hoist the Cup makes him emotional.
  9. You gotta love how the players got back in the wee hours of the night and just kept partying and drinking at Harry Carrays & the Pony Inn til 8 or 9 AM. I can imagine how rowdy that flight home had to be. I'm probably in the minority on this, but I have absolutely no urge to go the rally tommorrow, nor did I in 05. I'd be able to see and hear everything much better on TV anyway. If I worked in the Loop, I guess I might check it out, but don't want to actually travel down there.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 07:54 AM) The final goal audio from WGN Radio... AWESOME! Thank you very much. That is gonna have to go on the Ipod next to John Rooney's call in 2005. I love how he had no idea that it went in either.
  11. Two summers ago I got a random e-mail from my buddy, saying "Are you ready for some hockey??". It was a season ticket confirmation for the Hawks. Quite a journey it has been since then, re-establishing what was lost earlier in the decade and it all culminates in last night. Thank you Blackhawks, that was f***ing awesome. Best moment of last night: Hossa finally hoisting the Cup. There you go you sneaky bastard, keep switching to the Cup favorite, now you are on the best team in the best city, Congrats. We Got The Cup!!!!!
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) I think it is tough to truly rate Silva. He has had success in the AL before, and he got paid, then got fat and happy. He absolutely sucked in a Mariners uniform, but the guy was in a revolving buffet line the entire time he was there. He looks like he took the offseason seriously this year and showed up to Cubs camp in shape, and he looks like a totally different pitcher now. In his 4 seasons in Minnesota, he had one awful year, but his other 3 seasons had ERAs of 4.21, 3.44, & 4.19. That averages to just under 4, subtract one run due to the league switch and it puts him where he is now. I don't see him finishing under 3, but I think the combo of the switch to the NL along with him actually giving a f*** again, makes his comeback somewhat real.
  13. The hype machine was a bit ridiculous and how many times can Costas compare to him to Walter Johnson, ugh. That being said, the guys stuff was nasty and hes gonna be damn good. I don't care if its the Pirates, 14 K's in 7 innings on only 95 pitches is sick. I agree with Rock that he reminds me of Kerry Wood and I forsee some arm issues coming up in his career, although not having Dusty as manager will work in his favor.
  14. I blame whoever's fault it is that Buehrle, Peavy, & Gavin suck balls this year.
  15. QUOTE (SnB @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 09:59 AM) bahaha, what a ridiculous looking sign that is. Haha, totally. I personally am not the biggest fan of the Madhouse signs at the UC, but at least those try to be somewhat intimidating.
  16. Under 10 hours til puck drop, starting to get nervous..... Start of the series, I predicted Hawks in 6, but seeing how well Philly plays in Comcast Country, not as confident in that pick. Should be an exciting game, I really really do not want to go to the UC Friday night, anything can f***ing happen in a Game 7.
  17. I heard the other day that when the Hawks logo was originally created, there was only one feather in the cap. They added one after each of the Cups in the 30s, and then added the 4th one in 1961. If they win another hockey game this week, then this would mean they should be adding another one to the logo now too? Does anyone know if this is true or just some BS someone made up?
  18. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) I completely agree with you about Danks and Buehrle, but I'm not sold on Peavy. I'm sure he won't be this bad if he continues to pitch for the Sox, but I don't think there's any guarantee that he'll be our #1 or Ace (especially because I think Ace is very subjective, and there are only about 10-15 in the entire league). In the AL, I don't believe he's as good as he was in the NL. The key will be just how much of a difference that switch makes. Also, his ERA at PETCO Park is 2.74 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP, while his career #'s are 3.40 & 1.19, so that definitely helped him out in the past.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) People are going to keep saying that until both of them are retired. And when that happens, Danks will still have the better numbers and been the much better pitcher throughout their careers. QFT
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) He did a nice job earning those numbers against one of the worst offensive teams in the NHL. Boston was the worst offensive team and Montreal was in the bottom 7, but his home playoff stats against them were still ridiculous, 3 goals against in 4 games. He gave up 3 goals in each game to the Hawks, which actually isn't awful, but I think the players in front of him playing better at home makes a huge difference as well.
