QUOTE (knightni @ May 13, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) Too bad that there's no DH in the NL. Cincy might take on Dye or Konerko. Sign and trade for Homer Bailey???

FWIW, several pre-season top 25s have just come out. They seemed to all have MSU, Purdue & Duke in the top 3. OSU was about in the 6-10 range, and Illinois seems to be ranked between 14-16 in nearly every pool. Wisconsin was around the 20-25 range or so. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 13, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) I sincerely hope Hawk is able to either apologize to Wimpy or at least mend fences. What happened to Paciorek was horrific enough, having someone he was that close with react like he did was even worse. I really have to think something happened between them already, I cannot imagine Paciorek being able to be in the next booth without a truce being called. I know what happened to Wimpy, but I don't remember anything about Hawk's reaction to it?

QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 12, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) Philly is the first team in 35 years to come back from 3-0 down to tie a series. They have a chance to pull a Boston Red Sox and become the first team to come back from 3-0 down to win a series. (I think 60 years) Its happened twice in hockey before, in the 40s by Toronto & 1975 by the Islanders. Who would have thought that either BOS, PHI, or MTL would be playing in the Finals, especially the way they barely made the playoffs at the end of the season. Whoever wins the West would appear to be the clear-cut favorite now, but then again, thats what was being said about the Penguins two weeks ago. The Trib is saying that Hawks-Sharks game 1 is gonna be Sunday 2:00 on NBC. -

And the Canadiens are up 2-0 after 1 in Pittsburgh. Crosby & Malkin are doing their best Sedin impersonation. 2 goals, 6 assists combined so far in this series. -
I hope you aren't flying in to LAX, ugh.

Glad to see some clutch hitting and pitching for once, lets keep it up and maybe make 2010 a fun season.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 11, 2010 -> 11:13 PM) Haha home game. I think there is a very real chance he leaves if Boston knocks them out. He knows he won't be taken seriously in the greatest of all time talk unless he wins multiple titles, and to still be at zero after this year would really have to make him think. Yeah, I was 99% sure thy guy was gonna stay in Cleveland after this year. However, if they lose in the semis to an aging Boston team, especially with the blowouts there have been, I think he may test his championship chances somewhere else instead.

Best short handed scoring team EVER. 8 down, 8 to go. Sharks are a very skilled team, but I think Hawks should have enough depth and firepower to take them, but you never know in hockey. Nabokov is a great goalie, but he seems like he can be broken down easily like Luongo, just look at the CAN-RUS Olympic game. I just hope they announce the schedule soon, I get so antsy waiting to plan my next two weeks. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 11, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) He is supposed to be all glove and some bat. His glove looked like s*** yesterday, couldnt even make an easy throw and gave up a double on straight laziness. Before he came up, they had talked about the high amount of errors he was making in the minors. I think he has really great range and can make some unbelievable plays, but is prone to simple errors.

QUOTE (whitem0nkey @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) when comparing chicago to east coat fan bases it seems like we blame the coaches while they blame the players if things are not going well. I think they have it right. you need to hold the player accountable. I think people around here are holding the players accountable, even CQ & Becks & AJP recently. The problem is you can't hold Kotsay & Vizquel accountable, when the rest of baseball knows they are old & bad, yet KW/Ozzie is putting them in these situations that its obvious they won't perform well.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 11, 2010 -> 10:08 AM) I'm looking to get away from RCN if at all possible. Comcast is so over priced it's ridiculous. 50% off for 6 months and then they jack up the price, not to mention all the "extras" (hd service, dvr, etc) are all more than everyone else. As soon as your "special rate" expires, call them and cancel because its too expensive. They will give you another half off deal for the next year again. Been working that for over 4 years now.

QUOTE (smalls2598 @ May 11, 2010 -> 07:52 AM) Canadians do it again, beating Pittsburgh to force a game 7. WOW Philly beats Boston, bringing the series to 3-2 Boston. Craziness, this had turned into a pretty exciting playoff season. Hopefully, the Hawks cut down on some excitement tonight, I don't wanna go to the UC Thursday and deal with a game 7. Jaroslav Halak stands on his head a few more times, and Ken Dryden & Patrick Roy are gonna have some company in Montreal goalie lore. If the Hawks do make it the finals, playing an #8 seed doesn't sound as enticing as it did a month ago. -
The Tribune headline says that fans were booing him after the 3rd error. Really? Boo your top prospect, a 20-year old in his 4th major league game?? Wow, Cubs fans have become awfully cutthroat about their team in the past few years.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 11, 2010 -> 08:42 AM) Easy. Walker doesn't mess with the veterans. They're doing it on their own. Walker could go AWOL as of today and spend the rest of the year camping in Montana and it wouldn't make any difference to our hitting. He might be the most irrelevant person on the Sox payroll. He basically gets paid to fly around with the team. I'd say most hitting coaches are mostly irrelevant and are paid just to stand around and watch batting practice.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 11, 2010 -> 08:03 AM) I keep harping on this but seriously I just can't figure out why people blame this season on the rotating DH spot. We've gotten solid production out of our DH (s), even with Kotsay not being very good, because we haven't rotated it all that much. The problem continues to be...we came into this season counting on first and foremost Carlos Quentin to be a major run producer, and he hasn't done the job. We counted on Gordon Beckham to be at least another good hitter, and he hasn't done the job. We counted on AJ pierzynski to not be godawful and he hasn't done the job. We were hoping Alexei wouldn't get off to another slow start, and that hasn't happened. Hypothetically, if we'd signed another DH like Matsui, you know what would have happened? Jones would have had fewer at bats, because either Jones would have played the field more and probably already gotten hurt, or Jones would have sat on the bench more. They weren't benching Quentin, he's too damn important. Pierre might have been benched more often, but all that does is put Jones up for more of an injury risk. Actually thats not 100% true looking at the stats, but your second point is a main reason for this. Our DH spot has produced a line of .203/.290/.317, not including 3 pinch hitters. Jones has started 9 games at DH and hit .241. Pierre has been DH 6 games and hit .296, much better than when he plays the field. (Let's not mention his SLG%.) CQ has 8 starts at DH, with a .138 BA. The rotating DH was supposed to help him play less in the field and stay healthier, but it hasn't helped his bat at all. Kotsay is rocking a .059 BA in his 6 DH starts too. But as you said, with another DH, Jones doesn't play as much, which keeps him from putting up the numbers he has so far, which are much better than Matsuis. CQ would be trotted out there everyday no matter what, as would Pierre as Ozzie's leadoff hitter.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 10, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) I think it will be hard for Illinois to pass Wisconsin in the Big 10. The biggest reason is that Wisconsin is almost automatic at the Kohl Center. If they go 8-1 there, that means that they generally only have to go .500 in away games to be in the upper part of the Big 10. Last year they were able to do pretty well and they lost their best player for a large part of conference play (Leur). Except for when Bruce Weber strolls into town. -
The 16th Man was definitely a great watch. Now I probably don't have to go see Invictus now either. I had no idea that the white population of South Africa was under 10% of the country. With all of the racism and apartheid that was going on, I assumed that there were many more whites there, with all the control they had as well.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 10, 2010 -> 01:59 PM) I recall, I think it was 2006 or 2007, MB gave up something like 7 runs in the first inning - stayed in the game - and beat the Twins. Didn't we complete a triple play in that game too??? I remember that game being ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 10, 2010 -> 07:54 AM) Man, what a screwed up schedule we have the next couple weeks. Offday 2 @ Minn Offday Stretch of 16 games in a row, starting with: 3 @ KC 2 @ Detroit 2 home vs. LAA Interleague series home vs. FLA 7 game road trip through Cleveland and Tampa How often do you see a 5 game home stand? I don't get why Wednesday's game is a 12:00 start. Both teams have off on Thursday and are then traveling to Kansas City or New York, so its not like they need the extra time for travel purposes.
