  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) See my post right above this. I will also say that anyone that didn't live in Chicago at that time wouldn't grasp the horrible situation that it was. For example, the night of Game 6, I was in a Master's class taking a 3 hour exam. My prof was a Cubs fan, and put the gametracker up during the test. Nothing like having kids in the class starting cheering for every Marlins out, etc. when you're trying to focus. I was down in Champaign that year. The entire campus was covered in Cubs gear that I had never seen any of these people wear in the previous 3 years I had been there. It was like, since when did all these people even watch baseball, let alone become Cubs fans????
  2. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) i didn't say this was unusual, but kind of unexpected for such a high attendance rate winning or not, they have sold out most of the home games this season. would say you expected them to have an attendance like this and sell out most of the home games before the season starts? Yes. They opened a brand new ballpark to replace a s***hole dome stadium that sucked for baseball, and they were easily favored to win their division.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:25 PM) If Liriano keeps this up they can hang with any of them. I will agree with that. Baker, Slowey, & Blackburn are all solid pitchers, but seem more like #3 guys to me. Its hard to win playoff series with guys like that. However, if Liriano does keep being the ace he was a few years ago, then that definitely makes them a much better postseason team.
  4. Once again the Twins will be good enough to win the AL Central and do nothing in the playoffs. I don't see them near the level of NYY or TB at all.
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 5, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) But we have to jump 4 teams. Chris Perez is the gift that keeps giving, just blew a game to Toronto, so its only 3 teams.
  6. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 5, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) Jose Contreras is temporarily going to be the closer for the Phils: http://sports.yahoo.com/fantasy/blog/roto_...=fantasy,238335 He's also throwing the hardest he has in his career and has a 14:0 K:BB. Chris Young & Pods are doing so good too, uggghhh, KW SUCKS!!!!!! Seriously though, good for the Count, glad to see him staying around and doing well.
  7. Sounds like Brouwer is out for game 3, Buff is on the line with 88 & 19, probably means that Hendry takes the 6th D spot
  8. Soxtalk's favorite KC prospect, Kila Ka'aihue, has been called up to the show.
  9. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 5, 2010 -> 10:46 AM) True, but he still hit 27 HR's and his plate discipline was the best it's been for a couple of seasons at least. Overall, he still had a pretty good season for his age (although his defense declined which wasn't a suprise). If he didn't fall apart completely though, I don't think his demands would be considered as high and he probably would be signed already. If Paulie can stay consistent all season, he should definitely have a much easier job finding a job next year and a much higher contract than JD is looking for. Of course, Paulies ability to play defense helps as well.
  10. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 5, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) I'm hoping that Paulie looks at what happened to Dye, who still put up pretty damn good numbers last season and hasn't found a job yet because his demands are too high. Unless a team like I dunno Washington comes out and offers him a multiyear deal, I think he should take it year to year from here on out, because he can still definitely make some pretty decent money, especially when he's hitting like he is ATM. Post All-Star Break .179/.293/.297 does not equal pretty damn good numbers
  11. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ May 5, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) just try to enjoy baseball and see what happeneds. Let's go Garcia. By the way twins have only lost one series all season. FYI...Both the Sox & Royals have only won one series all season....somethings gotta give
  12. QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ May 5, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) I guess I didnt follow it too closely, but why did the White Sox get rid of Jim Thome? It probably had something to do with age/bad back, but Im glad he's on the Twins now (not trying to sound like Im rubbing it in or anything) .263 /.391 /.596 /.988 slash line. 5 HR 15 RBI in 59 PA According to Ozzie, everyone on the roster has to be able to play the field, there is no room for a DH only player.
  13. Career vs. Bannister Beckham 0-7 Paulie 4-25 AJP 11-26, 2 HRs CQ 4-8, 2 HRs Alexei 6-14, 1 HR Rios 3-6 Score some f***ing runs for Sweaty Freddy!!!!!
  14. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 5, 2010 -> 07:52 AM) Well its still hard to win games when your offense is an abortion as well. True that. All the energy that has been spent on the ineptness on the offense though, has kind of made me overlook the struggles of the rotation as well.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 5, 2010 -> 03:36 AM) I would personally. Howard has been terrible this series. Barring a MAJOR choke job by the Sharks (still wouldn't put it past them) Hawks (or Canucks) will be playing them in the WCF (and if it's the Hawks I really like our chances as they usually match-up well against the Sharks, more-so than the Canucks) I'm sure the Sharks are pulling for the Canucks as they usually own them when they played. That game-tying goal was absolutely unacceptable. The guy was in the corner with no angle and Howard let him sneak it under his stick 5-hole. I agree that the Hawks match-up well against the Sharks, I'd feel more confident against them than I do now vs. Vancouver. These late game short-handed goals have made for some awesome moments at the UC, but we can we please stop f***ing around? Just go out there and play a full 60 minute game and beat these fools. You can't keep screwing around with a team like the Canucks, they will make you pay. At least win one out there, bring it back to Chicago 2-2 with home-ice again.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 4, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) I remember thinking that the Cubs were getting their momentum back in that series too when, after they went down 3-0, came back with 5 unanswered and went up 5-3. That didn't happen. I'm sure it was Bartman's fault that the Marlins won that game too. And the game-tying home run came from the starting pitcher, which should give you all the momentum you need, until that same pitcher coughs it up, just like the other "ace" did. The one thing I'll always remember from that game is MCab's 1st inning 3-run bomb. Wood threw him like a 97-mph fastball ankle high, and Cabrera just golfed it out to the back of the bleachers. I was just like, wow, this kid is gonna be good.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ May 4, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Finally saw the one on Len Bias the other day. Was the cocaine OD, a one time cocaine use for Bias or did it come out that he had previous used? The way Brian Tribble described that night, it definitely sounded like it was not his first time. No one else has said that they saw him do it, but it was pretty prevalent in that era, several other players in that draft class had huge drug problems.
  18. Ugh, 4 of our 5 starting pitchers have ERAs of 5.30 or higher. I don't care who is leading off, you aren't gonna win many games like that.
  19. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ May 4, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) This will be a tough a game. Hocheaver does have good stuff. He seems to be very hit or miss, some days he has his stuff, some days hes just throwing junk. That being said, he was 2-0 against us last year with a 2.40 ERA, including a 3-hit CG shut out. Hopefully, we can get to him early and knock him out of the game
  20. LOL at Teahen coming out for an at-bat to a Bieber song. JJ Putz polls the people about it:
  21. They arrested a suspect, a Pakistani-American citizen as he was sitting on a plane in Newark about to fly to Dubai, on his way back to Pakistan.
  22. Just a regular day off for CQ, or is the hammy bothering him again?
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 3, 2010 -> 01:56 PM) You're comparing a pile of rock hard crap with a bowl of diarrhea. Must remove visual from head before lunch is lost.....ughhhh
