QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) They can't be giving up on this kid already... There is either something wrong with him, or this is a ploy of some sort. And on a side note, how does KC not get more trashing for their player development? Year after year we hear about all of this talent in their system, and no one really ever lives up to it. Greinke and Soria are the only ones really. Especially their position players just seem to fall apart. And Greinke very nearly fell apart mentally too, luckily was able to turn it around in his head.

Starting with this homestand, they need to go at least 5-2. If you are to be considered a real contender, KC & TOR are teams that you need to beat, especially at home. Win these series, and gain some momentum heading into Target Field.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 3, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) Since we're not the ones signing the checks, is there anyone who will go on record and argue how/why trading Flowers/Hudson as well as Danks OR Morel for Gonzalez and THEN signing Edgar to a $200 million dollar, 8 year contract extension would make sense at this time and place? Well Edgar Gonzalez is barely surviving in the Japanese league right now, so giving him $200 million would be an awful decision. His brother Adrian can play though, but given the team's present salary situation, I think a deal like that, along with Rios & Peavy, could end up hurting the team in the long run. I'd be willing to give up the prospects for him, but only if we could sign him to a long term deal that made sense for us.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 2, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) I could see Flowers and Lucy together as a catching pair in Chicago next year. I support that idea.

Zack Greinke is keeping up his game from last year with a 2.27 ERA & 0.98 WHIP. Of course his team & bullpen suck, so he's 0-3 in 6 starts. Lost 1-0 to Tampa & Wade Davis today.

Went to the OTB in the morning and the wife won the exacta on the race! It helped pay for all of the UC beers needed during that hockey game.

QUOTE (knightni @ May 2, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) I was looking at the wrong year. My bad. I still gave Lester a glowing 2010 total. The Romero and Billingsley stats aren't THAT "friendly." Both totals are very possible; and yes, Billingsley has been better than Lester in the recent past. In 2008, Billingsley & Lester had very similar numbers, except that Billingsley had way more Ks, so he was a bit better. Lester kept it up in 2009 and improved his K totals, while post all-star break, Billingsley was 3-7 with a 5.20 ERA & 1.48 WHIP. He wasn't even chosen to start any of 7 postseason games, and he hasn't shown enough this year to say he has turned it around. -
HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!

Great game going on in San Jose on Versus, 3-3 with 12 minutes left. I hope the UC is more fun tomorrow night, after the goal to make it 3-0, the place was a ghost town. Its only one game though, and if we had gotten any of those good opportunities past Luongo in the first 15 minutes, it would have been a completely different game. Absolutely can't go down 2-0 heading out west though. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) Lucy might have a career as a second catcher who hits for crap but calls a good game and plays solid defense. That is about his best case scenario. I don't think anyone who is familiar with his career to this point expects anything more. Unfortunately for him, we are already paying someone else 800k to hit for crap but call a good game and play solid defense.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 2, 2010 -> 12:23 AM) my god. two rough games and the pile-on beings. Soxtalk.com has become the Score670 overreaction post-game show. I have noticed that the Ranger hasn't been around as much either. -
QUOTE (daa84 @ May 2, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) looking at the cubs numbers...its amazing they are only .500 and have done so against a really easy schedule (even for the NL)....gorzelanny, silva, dempster and wells have all been incredible for them.....everyone on offense except Lee and Ramirez has been better than expected...... They have been able to hit, they have just had a problem knocking runners in, and of course Lee & Ramirez have been awful. As mentioned, their bullpen blew some games early too. Their schedule was talked about in season previews cause it was so easy, and they definitely have not taken advantage of it, they have two more weeks until they start playing real teams. I hope they enjoy Silva & Gorzelanny, cause there is no way they keep up what they are doing. As overpaid and bad in the field Soriano is, man, when that guy gets hot, he can carry a team for a few weeks easy.

If Donny Lucy had proven earlier that he deserved to be in the majors, then there would have been no need to sign Ramon Castro in the first place. The guy has started 5 freaking games out of 25 and he is the next Mike Piazza. I don't know why people around here get so infatuated with backup catchers, especially when you have a guy like AJP playing everyday.

Friday Night Lights is finally back on NBC this Friday, saw the commercials, can't wait. (Yes I do realize that you Direct TV f***ers have already seen this season, please no spoiling) Enjoying Fresh Meat so far, Brandon was very entertaining last episode.

There was a similar situation in London last year, car was parked outside of a nightclub Tiger Tiger, that I've actually been to. The same thing happened where the bomb started smoking but never exploded, thank god.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 02:25 AM) AFC East too. So atleast they get one guaranteed win out of the whole package. I don't know how the ticket distribution is gonna work, but I have a feeling that crowd in Toronto is gonna be very pro-Bears. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) You're in essence trading two top 25 SPs for one top 25 guy. Gregg's success is negligible, just like Lester's failure, but Romero has a past history of success, and Billingsley is overdue on breaking out. I guess we just have different opinions on the pitchers involved. I consider Romero & Billingsley much closer to top 50 SPs than top 25 guys, which would make it worth for a top 20 pitcher like Lester. I know Billingsley is due, but it just seems like something's not right and that it won't happen. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) Wow. I wouldn't have made that trade. Really??? IMO, thats a great trade. Despite his bad start, Lester can still be a top-15 SP and although Gregg will blow up at some point, he will still rack up the saves until then. Billingsley has the potential, but something hasn't seemed right since the middle of last year and Romero is decent, but not that good to worry about trading him. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) Wow, D-Backs currently up on the Cubs 13-1 in the 7th. 30 mph wind blowing out to left, fly ball pitcher on the mound, usually doesn't end up well. When the Cubs signed Lilly, I actually thought that happened to him way more often, but he's actually pitched pretty well. One of the few good FA signings by Hendry.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 10:44 AM) Yeah the more I think about this Dye-as-DH thing, the more I'm starting to like it. Thoughts? You should ask Jermaine first, cause he has repeatedly said that he doesnt want to only be a DH. He even says so in the article.
