HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
LittleHurt05 replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:40 PM) I guess winning the President's Trophy is like trading for certain Cy Young winners--it makes you think great things are ahead, but all you really get is suck. Oh, I see what you did there, you are talking about JFP. Seriously though, 3 of the last 5 President Cup winners have lost in the 1st round of the playoffs. -

Awesome, Habs Win!!! Hawks have home-ice in the Stanley Cup Finals! Jaroslav Halak might be the 2nd most popular player in Canada right now. -

6 on 4 for the last 1:30, no excuses Washington -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:27 PM) And sucked after that hot stretch. He didn't really play after that stretch either, not to defend him though.

GOAL!!!!!!!!!! Montreal 2-0!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) I can't believe there were people actually liking the Pierre acquisition when it happened. I was thrown off by how well he played during Manny's 50-game suspension.

6 minutes left, the fighting Ovechkins still down 1-0 -
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:51 PM) Terry Boers is almost always right, as his people are guys like Rick Hahn, etc. Well if he is right, then the 2010 Sox are definitely f***ed. Hopefully he is right about Tim Tebow too.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) Jim Thome has an OPS around 1.15....yuck The worst part is that our "washed-up" DH has an OPS of 1.06, but a career utility-man keeps switching off with him in the lineup
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) No, I think he's truly injured. The first red flag was Ozzie having to defend him during ST with the media. As much as I hate Terry Boers talking about his "people" who tell him all the rumors, maybe he is actually right about this one. Peavy has yet to prove me wrong on it.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) I'll take this squad thanks to Santos and Beckham. Right now watching Beckham swing for the fences every at-bat and barely hit .200 is not very exciting to me.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:43 PM) So would you trade Peavy for Zambrano now? I would definitely have to think about it, both contracts suck.

Ugh, I'm starting to get sick of the Missile

A two-run HR to Hamilton is one thing. But with 2 outs, walking the 5-6-7 guys, then letting the 8-9 guys knock them in??? I guess in the NL those 8 & 9 hitters would be much crappier??? Ugh.
-
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) I'm already considering watching Caps/Habs instead. Am I a bad fan? Nope, thats what I'm watching. Habs up 1-0 with 30 secs left in the 2nd.

The Twins have some rookie third baseman named Luke Hughes in the lineup today. First MLB at-bat, hits a homer of course. And he's from Perth, Australia.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) I talked to a friend who is a diehard Canucks fan and he is convinced that they are the favorites in the series and the better team without a doubt.... I know everyone is a homer when it comes to their team but considering we beat them last season and better record this season it was a little puzzling to me... I think its a pretty even series, I'd probably give the Hawks a slight edge, then again I'm a homer too. Which Luongo shows up is important, he's capable of winning the series by himself, but he's also capable of choking it away like last year. Regular season records don't mean as much in hockey, just look at the East, and last year's series was like 2 or 3 minutes away from being 3-1 Vancouver. Game 7 hockey is so awesome. Canadiens take the early 1-0 lead, keep up the good work Halak. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 06:14 PM) Why they got rid of Franklin Gutierrez is even MORE puzzling. He's their starting CF and will be for a while.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:23 AM) There is a 30/30 in June called, "The Two Escobars." It's about Pablo Escobar and Andres Escobar ( Colombian soccer player who was murdered after scoring an own goal vs the US in the 94 World Cup). Some believe he was killed by Colombian drug lords who lost tons of money on that game. That should be a good one. And I'm 99% sure that whoever killed him did it because of that goal.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) Yep, he and Gus Frerotte split time in 2008, when the Vikings finished ahead of the Bears in the standings. That Bears team won 9 games, a number this years team would have to really play well to match based on their lack of talent. I know the Vikings can still make the playoffs with him, but that difference brings them way closer to the rest of the league. I don't know whats gonna happen with the Bears this year. I do know that somehow they went 7-9 last year, with 2 of their 3 starting LBs playing a total of about 6 quarters combined, and their quarterback throwing 26 picks, several of those in the red zone too. With that and Peppers/Harris, they should do much better than last year, which puts them at .500 or better at the least. I don't think that makes them a DISTANT 3rd in the North, especially if #4 finally leaves. -

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) I can't believe that we got a draft pick for him. . . must have been like a 7th rounder in 2013 (assuming the world ends in 2012). Thats why they call it a "conditional" pick. -
Trevor Hoffman blew a save to PIT last night on a solo HR to Ronny Cedeno & a grand slam to Doumit. Doumit hits another HR off him in the 9th today, Brewers down in the 10th. Hoffman is now 3 for 7 in saves, ERA of 13.00

After what he's shown so far this year, JFP in Arlington doesn't make me confident, but now's a good time to turn it around. Hitters just need to remember, that Harden doesn't throw strikes. Just be patient, he loves to nibble and make batters swing at his horrible pitches. He is averaging under 5 innings per start this year.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) The Bears are a DISTANT 3rd in the NFC North to the Vikings and Packers, even if Brett Favre doesn't return. If he does (and he will), I find this season 100 percent hopeless, because the Bears best hope is the #6 seed, which will be tough playing those two teams for 25 percent of your games. Oh, and Jeff Ireland is a real classy guy. Have you ever watched Tarvarias Jackson play quarterback?????
