  1. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) I've watched the Wood 20K game, and I have to say, the ump had an awfully wide strike zone that day. Calling balls and strikes is a subjective judgment call. If the zone had been slightly different, or had even one particular pitch been called differently, then Wood has a 19K (or lower) day instead of 20Ks. Yes, this sounds like a nit, but I think it shows that comparing the 5 20K strikeout games in MLB history to the 18 perfect games isn't a fair comparison. Yes, there can be subjectivity in outs as well as balls and strikes, but there is less. Buehrle had only 6 strikeouts, and had to record 21 solid outs in the field. None of them was a subjective judgment call that could be argued/disputed, or which the replay shows the umps screwed up. Had replay technology been used to call the all the outs in Buehrle's game, he still would have gotten his perfect game. But if computerized strike zone technology had been used to call Wood's game, would he still have gotten his 20 Ks? All that said, Wood's game is impressive. I just prefer a perfect game more, because it truly is just what the name says: a "perfect" game. No runner reaches base. Absolutely nothing goes wrong. Buehrle's game was a thing of beauty, a rare glimpse of perfection in a far-from-perfect world. You do realize that MB had the same human judgement when it came to his ball/strike calls. And there were a few calls that he was given that could have been called balls, including a ball four in the ninth. The perfect game could have just as easily been a no hitter if they had strike zone technology too.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) Aaron Rowand NOOOOO!!! Make it stop!!!!
  3. Everyone was so amazed when the Bears actually spent a whole bunch of $$$$ on free agents. With the loss of FA Ogunleye and the releasing of Vasher (deservedly) and Brown, thats about $15-16 million right there they cut from last year's payroll. Turns out they weren't such free spenders as we thought.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) Who are you referring to? Please don't say Aaron Rowand, please don't say Aaron Rowand
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) See, this is where Rotoworld loses me: Name the obvious fallacy in this blurb. Don't you know, the AL East is only the Yankees & Red Sox. The Blue Jays and that pitcher named Roy don't count in the discussion.
  6. QUOTE (drowninginflame @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) Honestly, aside from Baseball, my friends and family and the food, I don't miss a thing about living in Chicago. I LOVE living here. I have a great career and a fantastic life. Sounds like about 4 things you miss about Chicago. LOL, jokes aside, I'm heading down to NOLA for the first time Memorial Day weekend, really looking forward to it.
  7. I just hope that if Garcia does suck it up, Ozzie doesnt get stubborn with his countryman and family friend, and keep trying to throw him out there with a suitable replacement waiting in the wings.
  8. Not a huge surprise, Richmond wins IL's Mr. Basketball Top 4: Jereme Richmond, Waukegan (Illinois) - 455 Rayvonte Rice, Champaign Centennial (Drake) - 201 Meyers Leonard, Robinson (Illinois) - 179 Wayne Blackshear, Morgan Park (Louisville) - 122
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 03:24 AM) Am I going to lose respect among the great White Sox fans of this message board if I date a Cubs fan? I'm married to one, so hope not
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) Its a concussion. Thats what I had heard too, but I just saw this article today, so who knows.
  11. The depleted defense core with Campbell's injury & Johnsson's mystery "upper-body" injury are definitely hurting them, but overall the team looks slower, less agressive, and is making too many mistakes. Sharpie just gave his guy a free 1-on-1 last night on the last goal. As recent as a month ago, I heard people getting excited about the season finale vs. Detroit, thinking that it might be a do-or-die game for the Wings to even make the playoffs. Now with them closing in on at least a 5 seed, theres a better chance of that game deciding the Central Division, f***. At least the good news is that single game playoff tickets go on sale in 5 minutes.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 07:55 AM) I think he means how does he get a FIVE inning save in a 9 inning game when only two pitchers picthed? Doesn't the starter have to throw at least 5 innings to qualify for the win? If so, that should have made Colon the pitcher of record I believe. Unless rules are different in ST...? I believe that in ST, the starter doesnt have to go 5 innings for the win. He can go 1 or 2 innings and if he leaves with the lead, they give him the W
  13. I know the Twins lineup is the best in the division, but Liriano, Blackburn, Pavano & Co. in their rotation doesnt do much for me, and I think thats their downfall. Sox will score enough runs behind our pitching staff to win the division. SOX MIN -5 DET -7 CLE -14 KC -22
  14. Looked over some of the other divisions, and I found another questionable projection IMO. They have the Angels finishing last in the AL West, average record of 76.2-85.8, only winning the division 2.5 out of 100 times. They have the other 3 teams at or above 500, with the A's winning the division 19.5/100. I know the Angels lost Lackey, and are supposed to finally fall off their AL West throne, blah blah blah, but I really doubt they end up the worst team in a bad division.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 03:21 AM) I agree with your thought process, although I don't think Butler is quite as big an underdog as some people think. This is a team that just about everybody had pegged as a legitimate national title contender next year if Gordon Hayward came back (although that's very iffy now). They are just a year early more than anything. Yeah, and in the preseason AP poll, they were ranked #11, so its not like they came out of nowhere. Looking at the other teams, Michigan State was #2, West Virginia #8, & Duke #9.
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) The Mariners placed Ryan Garko on waivers and opted to keep 48 year old Mike Sweeney instead. Can't say I understand that move. Thats is interesting. It seems like I keep hearing about good Ryan Garko is gonna be, and yet now hes 29, and he is still barely an average 1B. Sweeney hit .517 in spring training which earned him the spot. This makes Casey Kotchman the everyday 1st basemen instead of a platoon with Garko. Rotowire says:
  17. I'm guessing they realize that hes not gonna be anything special, so they arent worried about ensuring that he gets as many at-bats as possible. He tore the cover off the ball in ST, and looked like the best option for 4th/5th OF, so lets bring em up. Don't have to worry about development cause theres very little developing left to be done.
  18. With Alex Brown due $5 million next season, I could see why they would be thinking about dumping him. Hes a decent player, but nothing special. His highest season sack total is only 7.0. That being said, the options to replace him only have one advantage over him, and of course thats $$$$$$. Idonije is probably my favorite player on the team, but hes only a special teams beast with part-time experience at DT, not really even at DE. Mark Anderson already had the starting job and proved that he cant play every down causes hes worthless against the run. Since his hotshot rookie season, he has less than 10 sacks total in 3 seasons. Then again, stubborn Lovie thinks that Rob Marinelli can turn anyone into a stud DE, so who knows what is going on.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Nate Robertson + cash considerations traded to Florida for prospect Jay Voss. Bummer, I always enjoyed seeing his name come up in the probable starters list for the Tigers.
  20. QUOTE (zenryan @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) Has anyone regular poster come back here since their team was eliminated? Does elimination from the NIT count?
  21. Awesome, the road to the World Series starts now!
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 10:06 AM) People aren't tired to the references to pop culture yet? Family Guy got old like 5 years ago. As long as they are good and not the same ones repeatedly, I still find them pretty funny. Other than Modern Family & CBS Monday nights, its still one of my favorite comedies on right now.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 09:55 AM) I was referring to the attendance of that particular game in case anyone wanted to get tickets. LOL, oops. I guess I didnt relate sold out baseball stadium with the Nationals.
  24. This is from the upcoming ESPN Magazine, they did 100 computer simulations and the Twins finished 1st more often, but somehow the Indians were next in line, as well as the only team to snag a wild card berth in one simulation. They also dont think much of the division, as the Twins are the only team to average a +.500 finish, at barely 82 wins. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/news/story?id=5028413
  25. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) I honestly believe the Simpsons has been strong these last two seasons. Their material is a lot sharper and wittier than previous years. There was a period, from probably 2004-2007, where nearly every episode I viewed was unbearable. I can at least tolerate it enough to forsake valuable DVR space on Sundays. I agree thats its gotten better over the last year or so, although it still doesnt compare to the heyday of course. Its on the lower rung on my DVR space, but I try to still catch every episode. Finally saw the Family Guy from two Sundays ago, there isnt much that can make me say wow, but that Terri Schiavo play to start out was something else. Although the Kindergarden version of Matt McConaughey from Dazed & Confused was pretty hilarious.
