  1. There were some wicked crashes in that women's downhill last night. The best I think was a French chick, who made it barely 40 feet out of the gates, lost her balance and fell over to the right and crashed. You train four years for this moment, and you can't even make it down the first part of the hill.
  2. I really need to finally check out Kuma's, I've lived close to there for years. Is there a time of day that the wait isn't as long? Don't really wanna wait for an hour and a half if I can help it.
  3. 16-inch softball in Junior High. Last game of the regular season, the undefeated #1 team slaughter rules us like 16-0. As the bottom seed, we play them again 1st round of the playoffs and shut em down and beat them 3-2. 2nd biggest upset of that fall after NW over ND
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 08:41 AM) Cliff Polite. 2005 Cliff Politte??? Yes, please. It still amazes me to this day that in 2005 our two set-up men with sub-2.00 ERAs were Cliff Politte & Neal Cotts...They do say you gotta get lucky to win a WS
  5. QUOTE (Felix @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 07:20 PM) Epic fail, US Curling. Seriously, he blows three GW throws in two days, ridiculous. Glad to see curling back on TV though, really enjoyed it despite the ending. Anybody know what makes one person (Ohno) better at short-track speedskating, while another person (Shani) is better at the regular speedskating? They both go the same distances.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) I thought it was the opposite? I thought brushing made the ice slicker and kept the stone moving. Yeah, thats what I thought too. I think it lowers the friction on the ice and kinda heats it which smooths it out and keeps the stone moving faster. Damnit, gonna be stuck at worker longer so am only gonna get to catch the last hour of it tonight...
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) They were the source material for the sleeper hit "Three Men and a Baby". If AJ, Hawk & Damon played themselves, I would pay to see that in the theaters
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) Was sick in bed yesterday so watched the whole OSU/Illini and Minn/NW games. I think OSU goes further than anyother Big 10 team in they tournament. Them and/or Purdue. P.S. I LOVE Gus JOhnson and Greg Anthony together. My only worry for OSU would be their lack of depth. They go 6, maybe 7 deep. Get in a little bit of foul trouble during the tourney, and you can get sent home just like that. Gus Johnson should announce every college basketball game. Just Awesome.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 09:27 AM) AJ is 14/42 against Verlander with a .968 career OPS. Quentin is 6/20 with a .917. Rios is 3/7 career against him, Pierre went 2/3 against him. Johnny Damon is 5/16 career vs. Verlander with a .978 OPS
  10. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 08:24 PM) Canada finally wins their 1st gold medal on home soil in the mens moguls. We won a silver medal in the event. I didn't understand why winning a gold medal was such a big deal for the Canadiens. Then I finally read that they hosted a Summer & Winter Olympics and didn't win a gold in either of those two games. That's pretty bad. Only other times that happened was back in the 1920s in France & Switzerland.
  11. I'd like to see the best of both worlds. Hopefully he signs a FA contract with the Pirates or Marlins. It would be good for baseball that the small market teams were able to sign a top free agent and it would get him the f*** out of the American League.
  12. Cubs fans must be thrilled that they got rid of their "corporate" owner and now have a family of Cubs fans running the show. They already sold tickets straight to ticket brokers and now they are actually scalping their own tickets straight up. A great message from the Ricketts: If you are a rich Cubs fan, we want to make sure you have the chance to buy tickets before all the other common folk.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 14, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) Our offseason has been blah. We're hoping to strike gold with Omar, Putz, Teahen, Jones, Pierre. I would say none of us can say with any certainty how those guys will perform. We can hope that they perform well. That's what the winter is for. And it still is winter evidenced by me missing a flight today because I sat my ass on I-70 for 2.5 hours as a 30 car pileup got cleared up. It was bad. I hope everybody is OK. I was in Lawrence and luckily left early enough to miss that accident. As soon as I got to the KC airport and saw that all on TV. Would have been driving home to Chicago instead of flying if we had left any later. I can see why our offseason has been considered sub-par, but I don't think too much more should have been expected. Acquiring Peavy & Rios late last season was our hot stove. We weren't gonna spend much money after picking up thos two $10mil+ contracts.
  14. I'm satisified. I think with this pitching staff, there's no way we dont compete for the playoffs. The offense definitely seems to be lacking though, a signing like Damon would make a big difference. Our probable inability to score runs is what keeps me from thinking we are a WS contender.
  15. Allen Fieldhouse was a pretty cool experience. The atmosphere was rocking and it was pretty loud for a regular conference game like that. One of the best opening video montages I've ever seen too. We were about six rows from the back and still had a good view of the court, definitely can see why they are so good at home. I never realized that Wilt Chamberlain died 11 years ago, thought he was still alive. As for the game, it seemed like ISU had chances to stay in the game, but they kept blowing them. Bad shots, sloppy mistakes, next thing you know they were down 20. I guess thats why their record is what it is. Just a workmanlike performance from KU, just get the victory. And that Cole Aldrich fellow is one big dude. 400th career win for the Jayhawk coach, but I still say f*** you Bill Self. Thankfully I was flying home Sunday so I didnt have to watch the Illini game, what an ass kicking. Not too upset though, they aren't good enough to actually win the Big Ten, and starting off this tough stretch 2-1 is as good as I could have expected. Take the week off, forget about this last game and get one of the next two road games. Hopefully they can finish off this last 5 games at least 3-2.
  16. My favorite player since I've been a kid and the best damn hitter of our generation. One of the only players that spoke out against juicing during the whole roid era. Enjoy the retirement Frank, thanks for the memories and see you in Cooperstown in 5 years.
  17. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) Need any recommendations for food/places to go boozing. Allen Fieldhouse is amazing. My wife's sister goes to school there now, so visiting her is the reason we are headed down there. So I'm sure she'll have all the places picked out that we need to go to. When we were picking weekends, I definitely made sure there was a game going on to check it out.
  18. Gonna be in Lawrence this weekend, and catching the Saturday night showdown between ISU-KU. Should be cool to check out what Allen Fieldhouse is all about, and would be even cooler to get to see the Cyclones knock off #1. But I won't be keeping my hopes up for the latter.
  19. Very professional JD. A little bit of competition shows up for your job and instead of stepping up and proving you belong, you pout and play worse than you ever have in your career. Thanks for 05 and all the great years after, good luck wherever you end up (if you end up somewhere), cause it sounds like it definitely wont be on the Sox.
  20. I'm running a half marathon next month out in Vegas. I've never really run before, just started in early November. I did the 8k Turkey Trot in Lincoln Park on Thanksgiving and am up to 10 miles in my training, so I should be ready for it. I have an idea of how fast I should be able run it in, but my #1 goal will be to get to that finish line. After I see how this one goes, I'll probably decide if I want to do more in the summer/fall.
  21. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) That game royally sucked. NU didn't play well at all, but Iowa still needed to shoot 12-24 from the arc to maintain their lead. They didn't really have much of an at-large shot before or after this game, they'd pretty much need to beat Wisconsin and win at least 2 in the conference tournament. That sucks, was hoping this would finally be their year. If Coble doesnt miss the whole year, I bet they probably got those couple extra wins they need right now.
  22. QUOTE (kev211 @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) Curling. I look forward to hours upon hours of watching Curling. ^^^^^^^^^^^
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) I did find this interesting... Could Cam Barker be a fit? http://stayclassy.net/tag/marty-turco/ Probably not, that article says they are looking for a quality defenseman
  24. Great line from that article.. What??? Its the f***ing Super Bowl! You are trying to win the most important game of the year, not worry about being a gentleman. Not to mention, if Hank Baskett gets his mind off Kendra's boobs for five seconds, he catches that ball and puts his MVP QB 40 yards away from making it a two score game.
