Official 2009-2010 NFL Thread

With Peyton obviously unavailable and Brady, Rivers, & Big Ben turning down invites due to injury, your 2010 AFC Pro Bowl quarterbacks are Matt Schaub, Vince Young & David Garrard. Now Schaub did have a hell of a year (and won me some $$$ in FF), but Young & Garrard as Pro Bowl QBs??? Ouch. Not like anyone watches the game anyway though. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 25, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) Doesnt the team that wins the head to head battle by default the better team? Thats as fair as it gets. Maybe at a neutral site, but not when one team has a huge home field advantage -
QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) I was thinking more along the lines of his wife . No but seriously I hate Jim Thome as a player and I don't think its any coincidence he has never been on a team to win it all. Same goes for Bonds, Sosa, McGwire etc. Home runs don't win championships, but hey that's just my opinion. And please don't get my started on his strikeouts and ground outs to second. Mark McGwire won a world series in 1989. Jim Thome's 1997 Indians team was 3 outs away from winning the Series until Joe Table blew it Barry Bonds's 2002 Giants team had a 5-0 lead, 8 outs away from winning the Series Were Thome & Bonds HR tendencies the reason why their teams bullpens blew their games?????

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) $100 a ticket for the games vs CUBS? OUCH! If you try to buy those tickets second-hand, you'll be paying close to that just for upper deck tickets

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 05:24 PM) Sabermetrics are having more and more impact on performance evaluation every passing year. I don't think will see another 2005 AL CY Young or 2006 NL MVP farce anytime soon. Whoever votes for the Golden Glove awards is still years behind though...

Are you sure about that? What happens if the Professor from the And 1 Mixtape Tour tries out for the league?? He is definitely white and he definitely only plays "street-ball" -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 20, 2010 -> 07:59 AM) I used to mock curling until I actually watched it a few years back. i LOVE it now. Totally. When I was in college in 02, I started watching it and was hooked. Ended up missing classes cause I didnt wanna leave when it was going on. Other than the hockey, its definitely the best part of the Winter Olympics.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) Big deal. Congratulations on the interview. Hopefully Rios will be a stud this year. Our lineup is counting on him big time. As is KW, cause if Rios doesnt turn it around, that move is gonna haunt and follow him for years to come...

QUOTE (since56 @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 06:02 PM) He is ok, but doesn't excite me. Some one remind me why we let Carrasco go? He did a great job for us. Carrasco's best option was to sign a minor-league deal with the Pirates, so i think the rest of MLB had the same opinion of him that the Sox had

What good is it to give up the fewest shots allowed in the league when your goalie lets 20% of them past him? I have always been a supporter of Huet and I know hes capable of playing very well, but if he hits a cold streak like this in May, your season will end very quickly. I'm sure Niemi will keep getting his chances to play, we'll see if he can keep it up. -

QUOTE (hitlesswonder @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 11:49 PM) yeah, McCamey's the problem.....28pts (7/14) with 9 assts and 2 steals to 3 turnovers. It's true that his FTs were bad, but McCamey is giving them a chance to win games. He could lead the Big Ten in assists this season while playing on a pretty bad team. Illinois has myriad problems...but defense is clearly the biggest one. Yeah, the one thing that bothers me about this team is the lack of focus/intensity for the whole game as well as the bad defense, which is unexpected from a Weber-led team. The lack of a big post presence hurts, but last years team wasnt much bigger and was way less talented, and they won more games and were a good defensive team. When Tisdale cant stay on the floor, McCamey and Davis are your only real scorers, and Davis hadnt shown up in about 4 games. You'd rather not watch McCamey just dribble around the whole time, but what other choice does he have? Pass it to JJ or Cole? The freshmen DJ and BP3 are showing skills offensively and are able to create their own shots, but they still make too many bad decisions and take basdly contested shots. Keller has just disappeared since his offensive barrage vs. Gonzaga. This team is the pure definition of a bubble team, possibly sneak in the tourney and win a game or two, or just NIT it up. With the potential shown and the future recruits (Richmond) the future is looking up, as long as Weber can reach these guys about playing defense and showing up for all 40 minutes. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 19, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) Big game in Champaign tonight. Illinois needs the win to maintain hope of contending for the title. Purdue needs a win to stop a 3 game skid. Illinois owned Purdue last year with an inferior team. Hopefully they show up ready to play 40 minutes. Purdue opened as a 3.5-4.5 point favorite, hoping Illini can continue the dominance over them from last year. Although last years team, despite its inferior talent, actually played hard for 40 minutes, while this years team still is working on that. A lot of games have been over break this year, but I hope the Orange Krush & the Hall actually show some life today, seems like they have been pretty quiet all year, best crowd was vs. Gonzaga at the UC. I think they need at least a split this week to keep them in the hunt for a tourney bid right now, although it is still early. I'll be in Evanston at the game on Saturday night, its always a good time, very orange crowd. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 18, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Yep, one of the most annoying games I've ever seen. Give credit to Kansas State crowd, as they've been the only redeeming aspect of this game. As I said the other day, this might be the worst basketball season in a long time with regards to talent level. Ugh, the last two minutes of that game took freaking 20 minutes. -

I'm surprised by how many kickers have choked and helped cost their teams games (Graham/Kaeding) or almost cost their teams (Rackers)... -
This is the main reason I liked the trade, cause he is gonna be under our control and at a decent price for a few years, as opposed to having to sign a FA veteran reliever for $20 million...

QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 17, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) Indiana should also be embarrassed about their fanbase. They just rushed the court after being an unranked team. Great job, f***heads. I agree with that. I understand how far they have fallen off the past two years, but thats just ridiculous. I'm sure a lot of the fans still consider themselves an"elite" program and I think that just shows what they really are. I thought it was kinda dumb that Michigan's fans stormed the court too. You beat the 15th ranked team that is on a 3-game losing streak, not to mention UM started the season ranked 15th as well -
Great signing by the Tigers. A very solid closer for only $7 mil a year is pretty nice deal
