  1. Northwestern ranked #25 in the AP poll, 1st time since 1969, deservedly so. They head to Champaign on Wednesday, hoping the Illini can score a W and make it 3-0 vs. ranked teams...lol. (At least teams that were ranked when they faced Illinois)
  2. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 12:40 PM) Im gonna throw a name out of my ass here but how bout seeing what the indians would want for Shin Soo Choo?? Theyve got Trevor Crowe waiting in the wings of a starting job. Id be willing to give up hudson. I know im gonna get smashed fo sayin that yes please. I dont know if his military obligations in Korea will keep him out of the league for a few years, but he can hit and run, had a great 2009. Would not think twice about trading Hudson for him
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) Is there any team more overrated than the 72 Dolphins? Could they go .500 in today's game? I know it's difficult to compare eras in sports, but come on - the NFL of 1970 had probably 5 good teams. You can lose any day of the week in today's game. I consider the Pats going 18-0 more of a feat than the 17-0 Dolphins. I was just about to post that the worst thing about this whole Peyton Manning sitting thing is that it gave the 72 Dolphins a chance to show up in the media again. Ugh, they are the biggest group of insufferable douchebags around.
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) I think if the Colts with the Super Bowl, nobody will care about this game. But the Jets are now in at a wildcard spot. What do the other teams fighting for that playoff spot think of what the Colts did? The Steelers are thinking how did we lose at home to Oakland. The Texans lost a home game to the Jets in week 1. The Broncos have gone 2-7 in their last 9, including a home loss to Oakland. Yeah it does suck for them that the Colts gave up in that game, but all the other teams blew chances on their own that could have made the Jets/Colts game unimportant to them.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 27, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) Peyton was pissed and the backup looked positively awful. They better pray that Manning never gets hurt. All the better reason to sit Manning
  6. sounding more and more like the fight aint gonna happen. Pacquiao is now saying he is gonna sue Mayweather and his promotion company for defamation for accusing him of using PEDs. They are starting to make plans to still stage a Pacquiao fight on March 13, but vs. Paulie Malignaggi
  7. Wife got me a Southpaw bobblehead doll Got a Jake Peavy autographed baseball from my old man
  8. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 23, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) Illinois and Mizzou tonight. Nine in a row for Illinois. Assuming both teams show up to play, it should be a fantastic game (more so than in recent years anyway). I'm hoping the Illini can cotinue the streak and make it a full decade of dominance, but with Mizzou's 40 minutes of hell & the way they have horribly stuggled against the full court press this year, I cant say I have full confidence in them. A win would be nice to give some hope that they might actually make the tournament. Like you said, it is usually an exciting game, should be fun to watch, go Illini!
  9. Looks like the superfight is in jeopardy. Mayweather is requesting strict olympic-style drug testing, while Pacquiao refuses to have his blood drawn within 30 days of the fight, as he says it could affect his peformance. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writ...ther/index.html
  10. Maybe being the #4 starter behind three other guys making big money will help him out?? Then again, New York is much further away from Puerto Rico than Atlanta, and that seems to be the thing he cares about the most.
  11. I wonder why the Mariners wanted to trade Morrow so badly. Maybe a thank you to Toronto for the Halladay/Lee deal? He hasnt lived up to his full potential, but hes definitely shown some flashes of the great stuff he has and could still become a pretty good pitcher. Great pickup for the Jays.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 09:49 AM) I hope the team is focused on San Jose rather than Detroit. They need to realize that SJ is the enemy now and the team we need to beat everytime the 2 teams play, not Detroit. i think that 7-2 beatdown in San Jose last month should show that you have nothing to worry about regarding their focus on the Sharks

  14. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 12:02 AM) ...this is just the sad reminder that we've sucked throughout history. I remember the first game I went to in 2006, looking at the new awesome World Series banner. Then looking over at the AL champions banner and realizing, wow, not did only did we not win a World Series for 88 years, but over like an 85 year period, we only made the World Series once!
  15. Considering their situation and the lack of leverage they had, I think this was probably the best the Cubs could have done. Fact of the matter is, Bradley was not gonna play for the Cubs next year no matter what and every team knew that. Instead of eating the $21 million, they saved $6 mil of it and got an experienced guy who at least might be able to eat some innings, albeit very, very bad innings. However, the fact that they let this whole Milton Bradley situation turn in to this dump off is what makes the Cubs look ridiculous. Good move for the M's, they got rid of their awful, expensive pitcher, and only spent $3mil/year extra for a big hitter who has proven he can hit as a DH in a quieter market, which is what they were looking for in their lineup.
  16. They've done so much in Sox uniforms, and I know our options are limited, but while perusing these potential lineups, anybody else shiver seeing the old, slow clunkers PK & AJP back to back in the middle of the lineup again???
  17. In 07 he played 58 games, in 08 65 games, in 09, he made it to 123 games, but I know he had a shoulde problem most of the year, as he only hit .234, worst of his career. I dont know how much I'd trust to him play well and/or stay healthy.
  18. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) Jen Patterson just posted on FB that Bradley is going to the Mariners. Why would anyone trade for this guy. There's no way he was going to be back on the Cubs...they eventually would have just released him. Yeah, but Jen Patterson learned everything she knows about sports from Mike North, so I wouldnt listen to a thing she has to say
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) I will say that I'd rather have one ace (Peavy) and three above average starters (Buehrle, Danks, Floyd) over a dominant 1-2 anytime (unless that 1-2 is something freakish like '01 Johnson/Schilling). During the regular season probably, but during the playoffs , absolutely not.
  20. According to Jon Heyman on SI.com, its official. Halladay goes to Philly, Cliff Lee goes to Seattle. Halladay will sign an extension with the Phillies. Wow.
  21. Doesnt speak well for the basketball being played in our great state, when the best team in Illinois loses at home to the 5th or 6th best team in New York. Ouch!
  22. QUOTE (kev211 @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 03:32 AM) Illinois State's first real test tomorrow(today) at Redbird Arena vs Niagara in the return game from last years bracketbuster's in which Niagara embarrassed us on National TV. Comcast channel 102 2pm in the Chicagoland area if any of you want to see an ISU game for once. I expect a win, but wouldn't be shocked if we lost because our play has been sloppy all year. Niagara has a Division 1 basketball program???
  23. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 11, 2009 -> 09:04 AM) I think it's safe to say UCLA is having a worse season so far. Yes, Iowa lost to UT-SA, but UT-SA is at least 7-2 on the season. UCLA has lost to Cal St. Fullerton(no offense Jason), Portland, and Long Beach State. Those teams are a whopping 12-10 on the season. Thats true, although UCLA did barely lose to Butler on two last second free throws and they hung around with Kansas for a while. Their start to the season has been worse, but I think over the course of the year they will turn out to be a better basketball team than Iowa. Long Beach State actually has a pretty tough schedule so far too. Luckily, neither team has to face Illinois State, what a bloodbath that would be!!!
  24. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) You aren't as bad as UCLA, so you can take solace in that :-). It takes a pretty special f-up to bring UCLA down to the level Howland has. You are the only "superpower" on the entire coast in basketball, and THIS is what you turn it into? UCLA is bad this year, but they cant approach the level of suckiness that is Iowa basketball
  25. Scott Podesednik Jr might as well re-sign Pods so at least we have some 05 nostalgia with him
