  1. QUOTE (balfanman @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) I do agree that Beckham is pretty close to untouchable, and I don't really care to see him moved, but we should remember that we have a G. M. who thinks big. If you want the A. Gonzales' or Joey Vottos' of the world we have to give up something big as well. Kenny may just have the balls to pull something like this off if he thinks that it will help the Sox in the long run. you wanna trade Beckham for Votto?
  2. until I see a Chicago source or the Sox confirming this, I have a feeling this is nothing more than just a rumor....dont see them giving up Getz for Teahan, especially if Cowley says they re-signed Kotsay...
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 5, 2009 -> 09:52 AM) Rios could steal 20-25 Ramirez could steal 20-25 Beckham could steal 10-15 If Pods is back and healthy he could swipe 25-35 We have some players who could steal bases, but Getz was our best at doing it. Nix had 10 last year in 94 games played... Konerko could steal 1
  4. wow, KW doesnt mess around!! I like Teahans versatility, although it seems like his numbers have never lived up the the hype he gets...Dont know if I am excited about him as an everyday right fielder, unless he picks it up. I was a fan of Getz, but I guess it was him or Nix anyway....Fields was gonna go either way
  5. QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) Yeah but thats a risky move to rely on 3 years of arbitration to earn more than a guaranteed contract. If he gets hurt, has an accident, or even has a terrible year his value on a 1 year contract in arbitration will go down not up. Conversely, MLB contracts are guaranteed, so if he signed say a 4 year deal he would still get paid a great value if injured or he had an off year. Going the arbitration route is a risk, something that he apparently is willing to take. In 2010 he would probably get something like $2M and if he continues pitching well in 2011 and 2012 he would probably get salaries of $5-6M and $8-9M respectively. While those both might be a couple mil higher than what he was offered in a contract extension in 2009 they are not guaranteed so its high risk against somewhat low reward. Though my gut tells me he and agent arent dumb and probably dont want to go the arbitration route, they just want to reject the first offer to be able to negotiate an increased offer the second time around. I fully expect Danks to sign an extension at some point in the next year. Good point, just as risky as it can be for the Sox to sign him to a 5 year guaranteed deal, it can be just as risky for him to go year by year through arbitration. Especially with the plethora of young pitchers that seem to get hurt nowadays, you never know what can happen.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) It's also worth noting that only 1 team that was outside the top 13 or so salaries in baseball make the playoffs this year, the Twins. (Also, the Cardinals were at 13 and they added a lot of salary mid-season so I'm not sure if that's counted in the total I looked at). OUt of the bottom 17 teams in salary, only the Twins, and only in the weakest division in MLB, made the playoffs. Of the top 8 payrolls in the league, only 3 missed the playoffs, the Tigers collapsed and still made it to game 163, the Mets lost like their top 5 players to injury, and the Cubs were incompetent and thought Milton Bradley was the key to a ring.
  7. QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) Last year I think Danks' agent said he wanted a Lester type deal. That's 5 years, $30M, plus an option for a 6th year at $13M. yes please
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 02:10 PM) I find it funny that almost all the rumors about Iwamura had him going to the Cubs. they dont need him, they are getting Brian Roberts
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) You can say that in hindsight, but there is no way you pass up Greg Oden at that point in time. there definitely was a good pro-Durant crowd before the draft. Yes, the consensus in the media was pick Oden, but it wasn't a given that they had to pick him.
  10. Granted its a small 5-game sample size, but so far this season Greg Oden is averaging just under 23 minutes per game, 6.8 pts, 9.8 boards, 2.2 blocks, 4.8 fouls, 3.2 turnovers. Think the Blazers might regret passing on Durant now...
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 4, 2009 -> 08:04 AM) Hinrich was huge in reigning in Jennings during this game. If it is Pargo and Rose covering him, he goes for forty points and we don't stand a chance in this game. Jennings has been putting up some big numbers so far. Granted he's on a bad team, whose only other good scoring option just got injured, but hes gotta be an early front-runner for ROY, especially with Blake falling to the Clippers curse. Jennings skipped college for Europe and didnt play much in Italy last year, so wasnt sure what to expect from him.
  12. In other important Yankees news... http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/base...r.ap/index.html
  13. wow, the Pirates actually made a trade that might look to be in their favor!
  14. Girardi's move of throwing Burnett on 3 days backfired. If he had started Gaudin and lost anyway, they would be up 3-2 with Burnett pitching on 5 days rest, and then CC on 3 days (which he seems to succeed on) or Pettite available on normal 4 days rest. Now he has 37-year old Pettite on 3 days rest, which he has struggled with, and only CC for game 7, although I guess AJ could go an inning or two. Then again, the Phillies have to go with Hamels or Happ in Game 7, so advantage NYY for that game.
  15. can't really say I'm surprised either. The Grizzlies had to know thats what they were gonna get from him, especially after how much of a team player he was in Detroit last year.
  16. just picked up tix for Illinois @ Northwestern game. Its always my favorite game to go to, the little high school gym is usually over half orange, and its on a Saturday night this year. If NW could have some success and get some more fan support, I think that gym could be a big home court advantage for them. Its so small, I'm sure its gotta get pretty loud if packed with all Wildcat fans.
  17. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 02:24 PM) Wow. That was really hard. I got 59. The hardest ones are the newer teams that haven't been around forever. Toby Hall, #5 on the Rays all-time list
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) Where the f*** has this team been all year? This is what we shouldve been like all year. since 1957, only one win at home vs. Michigan, that was 1983. Figures that this horrible year will be the year to do it, although its definitely not over yet
  19. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Oct 31, 2009 -> 01:15 PM) Way to answer back Indiana. (hopefully as it's being reviewed.) ugh, overturned, no TD, and now they miss the field goal...unbelievable! come on Hoosiers
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) I was on Wes' side. I can not stand JOhnny and Kenny. They never have the guts to go into the elimination competitions and talk crap. Evan bounces around to anyone that will make him look good. He annoys me because he thinks he is funny but he is a loser. Turns out Wes is the most normal out of all those guys. The doucheness level of that top trio is through the roof. Either way, this season has been awesome, so entertaining. And Kelly Anne was looking good at the end of the last episode as well How is Friday Night Lights only on Direct TV? It seems like everyone I know loves the show, and would always watch it when it was on NBC. Why would they limit the viewing audience?
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) 1) the white-sox blackhawks thing is comparing apples and oranges. If you could compare the first 2 months of the white sox season versus that of the blackhawks, I think it'd be equal or in favor of the sox. In baseball you can tell early enough when your team blows and there's no need to rush home to catch every second of every game, hence the dip in the numbers (plus, i screwed up the ratings, because often times i got so frustrated watching them this year that i'd shut the game off after the 4th or 5th inning). 2) I am proud to say I have never watched any of that crap television my fiance watches - gossip girl, greys anatomy, crap, more crap, etc. If i want to look at hot chicks i'll go on the internet. I don't need to suffer (it IS suffering, even for the 30 seconds i have to listen to it while i grab a beer from the fridge) through 30 min of that crap to get my chick fix for the day. just looking at your avatar gets me my chick fix for the day
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 30, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) I haven't the slightest clue as to why they would do this. Maybe they think they have a chance to beat Sabbathia in game 4 even with Blanton pitching, then think they have a big edge in game 5 against Burnett with Lee? as a manager, going with Blanton makes no sense. Blanton may have had a good year in the NL, but facing the Yankees, I dont see him succeeding, and thats probably a loss vs. CC. maybe Lee just doesnt think he'll be ready enough on three days to pitch as well as he wants to??? Lee not wanting to go on 3 days rest if the only logical explanation i can think of
