  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:01 AM)
    Dude, there's no way this happens. He's already declined trades to the Yankees and Angels, why on Earth would he want to come here?

    I think he has to be at least thinking about it. If he was 100% against coming to the Sox, I'd assume trade talks would never get this far...He had to at least tell the Padres "maybe"

    The Score is indeed reporting the deal is done pending Peavy approval, no mention of players at all.

    The Score tends to be wrong a lot, but if its true, wow, everytime people start doubting KW and getting upset with him, he starts pulling moves like these.

  3. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ May 19, 2009 -> 11:03 PM)
    Rocky has done a great, great job... however, outside of convincing McDonough to come to the Hawks... the rest of the stuff was pretty easy and I honestly believe anyone on this board could have turned this franchise around. Things had gotten so absolutely horrible and stagnant that the solution to almost every problem the organization faced was "do the opposite" which Rocky did.

    I'm not trying to say that Rocky doesn't deserve credit, because he ABSOLUTELY does, but fixing this team wasn't a revelation of sports management considering the situation he was presented with. I guess I'm just trying to put things in the proper perspective.

    I agree. Rocky and McDonough have made some smart moves, but the amount of credit they receive for putting the games on TV makes me laugh. 99.9% of people would tell you thats a good idea, only WWW didnt agree with that.

  4. I just see no way that KW gives up this quickly, I definitely think he would want to wait it out at least another month. The poor quality of the division also makes it less likely he makes a move this soon.

  5. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 18, 2009 -> 07:37 AM)
    Good post. When he was traded I believe he had never started more than 10 games in a row or something along those lines. He's a huge risk to have on your staff, because while he has tremendous stuff, he gets hurt a lot or he often ends up throwing 100+ pitches in 5 innings and a team finds itself in its bullpen early in a game. Don't forget, if it wasn't a 40 man roster in Sept. he probably would have been on the DL.

    Before he got traded one of the ESPN analysts, I believe it was Olney, said on radio that if the A's wanted anything near decent value for him he would have had to pitch all of the 2nd half healthy. The Cubs traded him for nothing because they took his salary and the A's were willing to get little for him to get rid of his contract. His ERA+ for this year is only 98

    After starting 31 games in 2004, his starts per season dropped:

    2005: 19 (22 total appearances)

    2006: 9

    2007: 4 (7 appearances)

    2008: 25

    Not to mention, in '08, he averaged just under 6 innings per start, and so far this year is averaging under 5.5 innings per start. The guy has some of the best stuff in all of baseball, but the combination of his injury history and inability to last past the 6th inning really lowers his value. He only has two complete games in his whole career, and those were in '05.

    I'd like to see the Ducks win tomorrow so we could have Home Ice, but I think we could score more easily off of Osgood than Hiller.

    I agree, the home ice would be great. Watching the whole series, seems like Detroit has easily outplayed Anahiem, except for at goaltender, Hiller has kept them in the series. During the playoffs, facing a hot goalie like that could be a scary thing, as has been proven many times.

  7. Ex-Bull Corie Blount sentenced to year in prison for marijuana, gotta love the judges response to his claim that it was all for personal use.

    HAMILTON, Ohio -- Former NBA player and University of Cincinnati star Corie Blount was sentenced to one year in prison on Wednesday in a plea arrangement resulting from drug charges.

    Blount, 40, had pleaded guilty in Butler County Common Pleas Court last month to two felony counts of marijuana possession after prosecutors dropped two trafficking charges.

    Blount was arrested Dec. 4 after sheriff's deputies intercepted 11 pounds of marijuana sent to him at a relative's house. Investigators said they found another 18 pounds in a subsequent search of his home.

    Although Judge Craig Hedric did not sentence Blount to the maximum 10 years in prison, he rejected Blount's claim that the marijuana was intended for personal use and to share with friends.

    "Cheech and Chong would have had a hard time smoking that much," Hedric told Blount.

    Hedric fined Blount $10,000 and ordered him to surrender two vehicles and $34,000 in cash seized in the bust.

    Blount was a first-round draft pick by the Chicago Bulls in 1993. In an 11-year NBA career, he also played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors.

  8. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ May 12, 2009 -> 03:03 PM)
    That game last night was awesome. I don't really care about all the bandwagon fans, it's fun to see people that don't really care for hockey getting excited about this. I've been a Hawks fan my whole life, I remember how excited i was for our playoff series against the Blues in 2002. This is 15416541x better

    I remember that series, I was down in Champaign, and we saw on TV that there still tickets available for the home games, which we couldnt believe. We got tix, drove up there, as the Hawks were in the midst of getting shut out for like 8 straight periods or so by Brathwaite. Not fun. The UC wasnt even sold out for the home games that series.

  9. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 12, 2009 -> 12:42 AM)
    It's kind of a unique situation. I was a pretty huge Blackhawks fan up until the strike. I used to watch them in the Amonte/Nylander/Zhamnov/Thibault/Daze days and it was rough. Then I got older and the Hawks sucked, they weren't on TV, and the NHL was losing the greats that lured me in (Patrick Roy, Raymond Bourque) and my interest waned. Since the day the Hawks drafted Kane, my interest has gone up and up, and now being able to watch them on TV every game really makes it easier to be a fan again. There is a lot to be excited about.

    I'm the same way. Growing up as a kid, I remember loving the Hawks, convincing my parents to order HawkVision when they were playing for the cup against the Penguins, the freaking playoff games werent even on free TV. Then the lockout happened, hawks got bad, no games on TV, and as a youngster, kinda lost interest, still tried to follow them a little bit. Now they finally have good young exciting players, bought season tickets this season and its been incredible, especially the game last night.
