QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) The Dodgers have that beautiful looking #17 pick in next year's draft that makes me really, really want them to sign Cabrera. Quick question, confused by the whole compensation thing. So if a team signs your type A free agent, you get their first round draft pick?? So if the Nationals signed Texieria, the Angles would get the #1 overall pick from them? Sounds like a lot to give up for the free agent signing..

Looks like Dumpster is staying on the north side after all..4 years, at least $52 mil... http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cu...-111808.article

I think getting rid of the coin flips is a great idea, I'm just glad they were still in effect for the 2008 season!!!

Has he never heard of Kenny Williams before and his tendency to make trades whenver, wherever he can?

Best. Game. EVER. I remember standing on my bed yelling at the TV: "None of this swing for the fences crap Paulie, just get a base hit and tie this game up!" Then as soon as he hit that first pitch, knew it was gone. I jumped in the air and damn near took my head off in my ceiling fan!

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) anyone seen lineups yet? I have been saying this all week, and it seems to be working out well, so here it goes again... Dewayne Wise should not be in our lineup ever in a playoff game!!!!!!!!!!! -
4 players that went home AFTER getting to Tampa

Here's a full article about the whole situation. Turns out Wasserman is our emergency bullpen guy if someone gets hurt. Bourgeois stayed with the team, but has to watch the games from the clubhouse. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...soxnt05.article -
Do you think KW would undo the Chris Young trade now?
LittleHurt05 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 07:12 AM) Anyone pretty happy about right now we weren't able to sign Fukudome? That one definitely went KW's way. If Piniella has a doghouse this late in the season, Kosiuke definitely just found his way there. Thank you very much Jermaine Dye, Shingo Takatsu, and Tadahito Iguchi for keeping up from signing Fukudome. KW offered him the most money, but he wanted to only play RF and play on a team where no other Japanese player had played before. I was pissed we didn't get him to play center but turns out we got lucky he didn't sign with us. And about the CBY trade, Javy is our 4th best starter. Compare him to other #4 starters in the league, and I think it is definitely good we have him, and he still takes the ball every five days, even if it seems to be reluctantly. We win one game in the Metrodome, and then we get to set up our rotation, and then he doesnt have to pitch until Game 4, it was the Sox fault he had to pitch game 1. And I have no doubt Young has the potential to be a star, but right now he would be the last thing this team needs in the lineup, another guy who doesn't get on base very often and seems to constantly swing for the fences. -
"Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs NLDS"

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 10:45 PM) I hope Dan Bernstein is drowning his sorrows in a cocktail of Jack Daniels and Cianide (I know he says he's a Sox fan, but I swear to god he's a f***ing cubs fan) I hate that jackass The entire week people would call in and say that they were worried about the Dodgers and the Cubs possibly not playing well. Both Bernsie and Boers basically called them idiots, saying there was no way the Cubs dont win the NL, and that no team would be able to win two games in a row at Wrigley. Are those callers still idiots Dan & Terry? -
uh oh, here we go, 1-0 rays, longoria HR

20 pitches thru 2, he'll be tired in no time!
-
Wait a second, Crawford is in the lineup? He hasnt taken a live at-bat in a real game since August 9 with a finger injury. Hopefully, hes rusty cause that would be a huge advantage if hes not near 100%.
-
Come on Javy!! Time to step it up for once. All those bad games in last few weeks mean nothing, time to show up and win one for the sox! I'm pumped, cant wait for this game to start!!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) scoreless thru 2 innings... i dont know how many innings he can pitch since hes gotta be rusty, but if Gallardo can pitch anything like he did before his injury, Brewers will have a pretty formidable 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation...although after that it gets pretty dicey and right after I say that, he proceeds to give up 3 runs on 2 hits & 3 walks, including a bases loaded walk...oops

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 30, 2008 -> 08:13 AM) Griffey Jr. has quite the history of dominating the Twins in a playoff tiebreaker. thats hilarious...i totally just watched that like a month ago... although for some reason i dont see Griffey stealing a homer from over the wall nowadays... -
I think half of the awards are pretty much guarantees: AL CY - Lee (halladay wins it any other year) AL ROY - Longoria (alexei's become my favorite player, but longoria has just been better) AL Manager - Maddon (still cant believe the rays won the east) NL ROY - Soto (so much for the Fukudome hype) The other four leave more room for debate: AL MVP - Morneau (he leads the league in RBIs on a team that no one thought had a chance to compete, let alone tie for the division, CQ missing sept. costs him, although the Sox struggles show how valuable he was, Pedroia has been good, but if you look at the numbers, he might not even be the best on his team, Youkilis's number are similar, if not better and I hate the guy) NL MVP - Pujols (his numbers were just unbelievable for a team that had no right even sniffing .500, let alone staying in the race til August, CC & Manny did carry their teams into the playoffs, but I just have a tough time giving the award to players who only spent 2 months in the league) forgot about Ryan Howard, he definitely needs to be in the discussion as well, but he has some other good players on that team that helped him NL CY - Lincecum (the numbers he put up are staggering, especially the Ks, and the fact that he got 17 wins on a bad team with no offense says a lot, all apologies to Webb, Johan, and CC, who are all deserving as well) NL Manager - Torre (last year the Dodgers struggled cause of clubhouse problems, and he got them together all on the same page, Pinella has done a great job with the Scrubbies, but they easily have way more talent than any other team in the NL, so he was expected to do well)

QUOTE (Good Guys @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 10:32 AM) The Sox will win tonight behind a strong outing by Vazquez. This thing isn't going to end until Tuesday, where the Sox will send the Twins home losers. Who's comin with me? I'm In, but I say its ending Monday....Meche beats the Twins today, we win two vs. the Tribe and win the division monday afternoon against los Tigres... although nothing would be better than seeing Carlos Gomez make the final out in a one-game playoff to give the Sox the division...
