  1. I'm finally pulling the trigger on the cord cutting. I bought an Amazon Fire stick and signed up for the free 7 day trial of Sling TV. Just making sure it comes through clear and smooth, then plan to cancel all TV with Comcast. Between Sling, Netflix, Prime, and probably an HD antenna, that should fulfill the majority of TV watching we do. Probably save up at least $130 a month.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 03:12 PM) It's not just that - the lack of a hard salary cap is hurting now too. You have 2 behemoth teams, the Yankees and the Dodgers, that are well built for about $200 million, and one of them is going to add Bryce Harper next offseason to a team that already was really good. You then have a handful of other well built teams, but basically you have right now 4 behemoth teams, 2 of them with huge money spent. If your team wins 88 games next year, do you really think you can outgun the Dodgers in a 7 game series and the Indians in the next one? I don't. Teams know that if they are stuck in the middle, that isn't good enough right now. They need to be exceptional, and they can't get there with the talent available. Those two big market teams have exactly one World Series appearance this decade. We had Kansas City one run away from back to back titles, then Cleveland was that close to winning a title, so it's not like the big market teams are the only ones winning. Houston is a big market, but never near the largest payroll, and they just beat both of those unstoppable large morket forces. And it's not like the other owners don't have any money to spend, they just choose not to. The owner of the Pirates is a billionaire but god forbid he spends some money to win more baseball games. Each owner just got a $50 million check from that Disney Tech sale but I doubt any of that goes to their payroll.
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 11:58 AM) I mean, that’s totally what’s causing this. It’s really the reason the MLB needs a salary floor. Loosing the luxury tax strings will further impact parity. I think a big problem is that the owners have done too good of a job suppressing young players salaries. The whole team control and arbitration system needs a whole revamp. And now all 30 front offices realize this and all have similar game plans. Young cost-controlled players are all every GM looks for, they offer up the team-friendly extensions, then say good-bye at age 28-30. There are exceptions of course, but teams are so much less willing to pay for a guy who is about to start declining when you can have a cheap player for his 6 best years.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 11:43 AM) Hayes to The Athletic covering the Twins. The owner of the Athletic wasn't kidding when he said they will suck the papers dry of the best talent.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 06:33 AM) Does this mean you just scream out both parts? I laughed
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 08:25 AM) I heard on the radio that Russell Wilson was involved in 97% of Seattle's touchdowns this past season. Passing or running. Sounds like they need a running back that's reliable. While you aren't wrong about the running back, I don't think anybody could run behind that offensive line. The only reason they scored so many points was that Wilson can make so many plays while running for his life.
  7. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 01:24 AM) Didn't the Hawks save some money for this year by moving Panik? What if they just trade for a rental goalie, as a salary dump from another team? My quick search results tell me former hawk Antti Raanta is doing pretty decent, and is a UFA after this year on a horrible Arizona team. Maybe go after Raanta? Or see what Boston wants for their backup goalie, Anton Khudobin, who is also a UFA after this year. He ranks 8th in GAA and 6th in Save% Yeah, that seems likely. They have the money from the Panik trade, Hossa injury, and could save even more if Corey goes on long term IR
  8. QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 08:47 PM) According to Laz, Crawford may miss the rest of the season with vertigo Jeff Glass, Conn Smythe trophy winner? If there was any doubt a few days ago, now I definitely agree with your previous post, they just aren't good. Interesting how Laz is just reporting it today from three sources, just a coincidence or did people.choose to leak it now?
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 07:50 PM) So what you are saying is let’s compare him to Viciedo even though we shouldn’t because they are different players but why the hell not let’s compare them anyway. Cuba, samesies But how many Instagram pictures did Jorge Soler have as a 19 year old?
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 05:57 PM) Seahawks DC Kris Richard officially fired today. Found that to be odd as so many of his blue chip players on defense were out, including Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and Cliff Avril. It's like Pete Carroll's last stand. Fire almost every coach except for yourself and hope something changes.
  11. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 04:32 PM) I would disagree with this. There are people including, obviously, many who vote for the HOF. I also disagree they were fun times, but I also prefer a 2-1 pitchers duel over a 10-9 awful pitched game. Im Not talking about putting him in the HOF, just simply throwing out a first pitch. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 16, 2018 -> 05:02 PM) Cubs fans want Sosa back? That’s news to me. Almost all of them I have heard speak about him want to let him appear at Wrigley.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 05:29 PM) Yet that horrible person had no problem hiring Manny Or Aroldis Chapman. The weird thing about the Sammy stuff is that Ricketts seems to be the only one who gives a s***. And he didn't even own the team then. The fans want him back, nobody feels betrayed by any steroid use. Say what you want, but those were fun times while it was going on and those guys were just clobbering baseballs. There's nothing for him to apologize for, just a weird grudge Ricketts is holding onto.
  13. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 02:25 PM) Sorry -- I've been out of it for a bit on the Giants since they did absolutely horrible last year... ... Why does this make sense for the Giants? Trading for an impending free agent ageing CF when they came off a terrible season? Don't they need to rebuild or is their legitimate chance that they can contend? They probably SHOULD rebuild, but want to go for it one more time, probably while Posey and Bumgarner can still contribute. They should be flush in cash after their 3 titles.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2018 -> 10:38 AM) Oh and someone should add this - Bleeping Bleep **** those refs were 100% intent on calling everything they could as a PI on the Saints. My word. It was quite the change from the Steelers/Jags game where the receivers and corner backs were wrestling on every play and nothing was called.
  15. Marcus Williams, meet Rahim Moore. You guys have a lot in common. Unbelievable.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 14, 2018 -> 05:55 PM) I agree with you, and they obviously needed to kickoff instead of attempting the onside kick with 2:13 left. These coaches say stuff like “we hadn’t shown we could stop them,” dismissing the fact that 9 out of 10 teams just run the ball into the stacked 9-10 man box there anyway. At the point of the intentional grounding, I think the offense was so exhausted they knew the offense was so exhausted that it might not be wise to get down that close and not kick, even if it meant pretty much losing anyway. They all looked defeated at that point. I actually go back and forth on the onside kick. The execution was so bad, that the decision looks different. If it's a normal onside kick, the ball is around the 45 and the Jaguars punt instead of a field goal, especially in that stadium. The small chance of recovering the onside kick might be worth the 30 yards in field position. To your second point, if they were that defeated, it makes even more sense to kick the field goal. Make it a 7 point game, give them a breather, and if you do recover it, then you can bomb a couple of Hail Marys.
  17. Every NFL team needs to hire an in game strategist to handle last minute decisions, because NFL head coaches obviously can't handle them. The Steelers needed to kick a field goal to have time after an onside kick, it was so obvious, especially after the intentional grounding.
  18. Blackhawks started their bye week two days early, yuck. All year, two steps forward, two steps back.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 06:48 PM) Foles getting some revenge for playoff lost four years ago when leading at same point in 4th. Philly has definitely had some tough luck in the postseason...maybe not quite as cursed as the Chiefs, but I’m sure 95% of their fans thought the Falcons would score there to break hearts again. I don't think Atlanta wants to hear about tough luck in the postseason. The Titans were never going to win but the conservative decision making by their coach was infuriating. Stop punting!
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 06:28 PM) Pirates really are a disaster. Shouldn’t have picked a clear direction a few years ago instead of playing the middle. Their owner is just stealing millions from the people of Pittsburgh. Already a billionaire, but still no interest in winning, just making more money.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 03:16 PM) Maybe Trubisky will be a big hit, but Floyd, the jury is still out, and White, right now a bust. It isn't over for those two, and maybe all 3 will be Pro Bowlers eventually, but he does need his top draft pick to stay healthy and help the team win in year one. Looks like he did find some gems in later rounds. His free agent signings have to be more like Hicks. The OJ jury might still be out on Floyd, but he's legit, no doubting that.
  22. QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Jan 13, 2018 -> 12:07 AM) OVERNIGHT BETS Barty v Kerber O 21.5 -120 ~ $120 to win $100 Adelaide 36ers @ Sydney Adelaide 36ers -4.0 Talk N Text Tropang @ San Miguel Beermen San Miguel Beermen -6.0 $100 to win $242.80 That last bet is just made up, right? Those aren't real teams!
  23. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 11:07 PM) Yes and you know there are. That post regularly anymore? Hard to think of any. Admitting to the R word in today's world can cost you your livelihood.
