All New Soccer Thread ~ All Levels ~ All Leagues

Apparently Comcast cancelled my sports package without giving me any notice, so I couldn't watch this game. Turned out to be a good thing. Oh well, not the end of the world, just leaves a little less room for error. -
2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread
LittleHurt05 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) Predicted Standings 2013 1. Detroit Tigers (95-67) 2. Kansas City Royals (82-80) 3. Chicago White Sox (79-83) 4. Cleveland Indians (74-88) 5. Minnesota Twins (65-97) The Tigers remain the class of the AL Central, and after needing a strong late-season push to overcome the White Sox last season I expect them to run away with the division this year. The Royals have completely overhauled their starting rotation with the additions of James Shields, Wade Davis and Ervin Santana as well as the re-signing of Jeremy Guthrie. If their young hitters can take another step forward combined with the new staff they could put together their first winning season since 2003. The White Sox collapsed down the stretch last year to miss out on the postseason, and there is always the threat of guys like Adam Dunn, Alex Rios and Jake Peavy regressing after bounce-back seasons last year. The Indians added some solid veteran pieces this offseason, highlighted by Nick Swisher, Mark Reynolds and Brett Myers and that should make for a solid upgrade over their 68 wins from last year and put some distance between themselves and the Twins for last place. Per Bleacher report -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) Really, season ticket demand for the NHL is that high? In Chicago there is. There is a waiting list for season tickets and they are nearing 200 straight sellouts. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 08:41 AM) Good to see you guys making them know that the lockout won't be tolerated! I said from day one, I'd be back right away too, it's too enjoyable to just ignore it. The lockout probably saved me money anyway. Plus, if I try to "teach them a lesson", they will just replace my season ticket money with someone else's, so only I get screwed over in the end. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 12:20 PM) Roy Williams was pretty damn good. Had a couple really good seasons with them, then got them a 1st, 3rd, and 6th round draft pick (which was turned into Gosder Cherilus, Derrick Williams, and Aaron Brown, so yes, you're right) Yeah, I forgot about Roy Boy. I was putting Titus into the mold with Mike Williams & Charles Rogers. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 6, 2013 -> 10:10 AM) Releases starting to trickle out Browns DE Frostee Rucker Giants MLB Michael Boley Lions WR Titus Young (picked up by Rams already) Lions ORG Steven Peterman Obviously Calvin Johnson is a top WR, but other than that the Lions have done a pretty awful job of using higher draft picks on WRs. At least the Bears s***ty WRs were all lower picks and they weren't f***ing crazy. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 5, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) Pretty sure i heard he called a press conference to announce retirement I think the press conference was only to announce his injury that will force him to miss the season. If he retires, he will forfeit his $12.5 million salary, so no chance of that, even though he may never pitch again. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) We get what, 36-38 games against Minnesota and Cleveland? True and I realize that the Sox had their way with those teams last year. But look how much more talent those teams have compared to Houston. Mauer, Morneau, Willingham, Santana, Asdrubal, Swisher, Masterson. Houston's 5th highest paid player is Phil Humber. Yes, that Phil Humber. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) Didn't the union get some ability to file a grievance against teams that do this? And anyway...this is clearly the rebuilding path the Chisox need to follow. I just realized that could totally screw over the White Sox playoff chances, along with the other AL Central/East teams. Oakland/Anaheim/Texas/Seattle all get 18-19 games against a AAA roster, while the Sox only get 7 games vs. Houston. That's a huge advantage in the wild card race. -

Tough for Chicago to prove last season's surprising run wasn't

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 5, 2013 -> 07:45 AM) I'll give him that, at least on paper. The Sox have a ton more question marks in their rotation when you count durability. The Tigers top 3 have a much longer history of reliability. Plus, the Justin Verlander factor gives them such an advantage. When you have a SP who is all but guaranteed to give you 225+ innings of Cy Young caliber pitching, that is huge. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 08:04 PM) So yeah, the A's got Jed Lawrie for Chris Carter and Brad Peacock. Quite a haul for Houston. Once they settle their pre-arb cases, the Astros payroll is gonna be $25 million. $5 million of that is for Wandy Rodriguez, who pitches for the Pirates. -

Is it technically "retiring" when you haven't pitched in 4 years?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 10:24 AM) Also that throw from Kaepernick was awful. He puts that ball in the endzone and not out of bounds they probably would have called the hold. Kaepernick was 0-4 throwing ball in the end zone yesterday and 1-8 in the playoffs. They probably should have went with Alex Smith in the red zone or at least Bill Cowher thinks so. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 08:46 AM) I was just making a joke. Someone on here said the Packers wouldn't win the NFC North for three years. All kidding aside, I think things will be a lot more difficult for the 49ers next year. A much improved Seahawks team. I also think the Rams will be better and the 49ers already struggle with them. Also, the 49ers have had pretty much no injures now two years in a row. That probably won't continue. I still think they will be a playoff team next year. THE 49ERS WILL WIN SUPER BOWL XLVIII! -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2013 -> 08:21 AM) Like I said, I'm glad I'm not paid to make that call. I'll go climb into a volcano for free, but man...picking out what to do in that spot...that's a challenge. I'd gladly take John Harbaugh's salary and make that call 10 times a day. I'd sleep fine at night in my very expensive bed. -
