  1. Multiple people tweeting that the Braves are close to trading for Justin Upton.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 08:29 AM) Hosmer is a good example. Last year he had a .699 OPS, Viciedo was .744. Viciedo is 6 months older, but has about 400 less ABs. Moustakas is younger than Beckham, but so far their numbers aren't very different.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 24, 2013 -> 07:59 AM) At this point, I just dont know if I really care anymore. Laws werent broken, it is ridiculous in itself and self aggrandizing(my opinion of him, of course), but nobody was really harmed except for Te'os reputation for the rest of his life. We all want the "GOTCHA" moment, but once we get it, then what? He moves on with his life, gets drafted, and plays football for the next 10 years(maybe) with fans of opposing teams ridiculing him. This Katie Couric interview doesnt really change anything for me. It still looks like a stupid backstory created by his PR team. I don't care about any football/ND stuff anymore with this case, I'm just kind of intrigued about the weirdness of it all.
  4. Manti Teo's girlfriend on the phone was actually a man impersonating a woman
  5. Save your money and don't do it!!! (Sorry, figured someone had to throw that joke out there. Congrats.) Wish I could help on the ring, but I couldn't even tell you anything about the ring I picked out for my wife. I just got in & out of the jewelry store as quick as I could.
  6. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) Minny about to go down at NW... It seems as if Northwestern gets at least one top 25 win at home every season
  7. Nothing worse than when you try to turn on sports talk radio and instead you get spring training baseball. Brutal.
  8. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 08:23 PM) I suppose that's not THAT big of a surprise. I don't remember them being much of a title contender from the late 90s until a year or two ago. Some ranked teams, but nothing special. Yeah I guess you are right. They didn't even make the tourney once from 1998-2009. The Tommy Amaker era. (I guess there were some sanctions issues during that time period.)
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 07:41 PM) So it could come down to Sunday again for Michigan in Champaign to be #1. Just saw that they haven't been #1 since 1992, whoa.
  10. I know the US qualifying group is easy talent-wise, but how many other countries have to deal with this? Grant Wahl‏@GrantWahl US State Department considers San Pedro Sula (host of Honduras-USA WCQ) "world's most violent city." Can't wait.
  11. Dan Wetzel with an awesome article calling out the NCAA for its stance on "amateurism".
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 07:44 AM) First time at 3-0 since 1972-73. That stat is so hard to believe. 40 seasons without a 3 game winning streak to start the season, wow.
  13. I'm Rick James b****. f*** yo couch!
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) I think a hotel can work, I just think they would be smart to attach something to the hotel that would also be a draw. Maybe a cubs museum or something stupid. I guess it also depends on how big of a hotel we are talking about. Right now the Cubs own maybe half a block with that McDonalds purchase. They would have to build a parking structure, thats just a lot of space in that area. I actually dont care, I just want the Cubs to somehow have to do something that benefits me, so that is why I keep pushing for a new concert venue etc. The Cubs are always going to me annoy me as traffic is terrible on weekday games. They keep your property value high.
  15. This Almeida guy on Nebraska is so awesome. He looks like a tall version of Hamilton Porter. 314 pounds of pure Brazilian beef.
  16. You guys may be right, but I know several non-Cubs game occasions were a friend would have loved to stay near Wrigleyville, but was forced to lodge downtown. I'm not saying it would be a gold mine, but I don't think the hotel would be empty. With all the transplants in the neighborhood, there's people hanging out there who might need a place to stay. Wrigleyville can also be a tourist destination without the Cubs in town. Plus, as Balta said, if you charge a premium when the Cubs are in town, you might be able to even out your losses during the winter months.
  17. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) Per Rotoworld: Phillies signed OF Delmon Young to a one-year, $750,000 contract. An awesome playoff performance couldn't override his NYC anti-Semitism I guess.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) There was a plan to build a hotel on the other side of Addison from Wrigley. That appears like it will be scrapped with the Ricketts' hotel going in. During Cubs homestands, it will be totally booked. Outside of that, pretty empty. Do you really think it would be empty? I could see plenty of tourists staying there instead of downtown. People come visit friends/family in the area, and they spend more time on the North Side, it would be more convenient than commuting from the Loop.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) Yep, I love watching him play, but there are going to be a lot of people out to get him for any possible NCAA infraction or legal issue. Totally. I think his family has money, so he's not breaking any rules or accepting gift$. But when you are the returning Heisman Trophy winner, everyone will be looking to bust you, especially if you keep posting that stuff to social media.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 12:04 PM) The boutique hotel idea next to the park is genius. If you were coming in from out of town its a no brainer. I've always been surprised how few hotels there are in Chicago outside of downtown. There should be way more lodging options in LakeView & Lincoln Park.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 10:50 AM) Joe Flacco Someone should run a contest or something.
  22. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 05:56 PM) Hoosiers will shock the world and win the Big Ten. I can say that, because it's January. I'm down for a crazy prediction too. Illini will shock the world and win a game in the Big Ten.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) lol he loves to nitpick shows Those lawyers are never happy, just look at the NFL thread.
