  1. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) For one thing, the talk of Perry started because of the "ethics" part of being a HOFer. Taking anabolic steroids without a prescription is a federal crime, putting a little vaseline on a ball a couple times a game is not. You are right. Using amphetamines (greenies) is a federal crime as well, yet they were rampant in MLB. Willie Mays & Mike Schmidt have admitted to using them, how can they be in the Hall of Fame? That's not very "ethical" of them.
  2. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) Charge the mound, throw at him when he's batting. To compare doctoring a baseball to taking steroids is pretty ridiculous in my mind. How so? Doctoring a ball gives a pitcher an unfair advantage. That's an extra pitch to his arsenal that other pitchers don't have. It also makes his other pitches more effective. What's the difference?
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 02:26 PM) The thing people said to me a while ago was that, particularly if you're playing at neutral sites, it's going to be hard to expect fanbases to travel for more than 1 game. How are they doing home field/stadium choices for the playoff rounds anyway? Stewart Mandel tweeted that semifinal rotation would be: (I believe the host bowls are still TBD, like the Chick-Fil A, Cotton, Fiesta, etc.) Yr 1: Rose/Sugar Yr 2:Orange/Host Bowl Yr 3: Host Bowl/Host He also said that the Rose & Sugar Bowls will stay on January 1, so the other two years, the semifinals will be on December 31.
  4. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 01:52 PM) My opinion on this has always been "cheating" between the lines is "ok", cheating outside the lines is not. The players can police the game themselves when its done between the lines (HBP, hard slides, etc.) but how do players stop others from using steroids? How can you police a pitcher from throwing a spitball? Nobody ever stopped Gaylord Perry from throwing doctored balls.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) Between AJ being gone, the fact that Ozzie Guillen not being around won't count for plus 3 wins again, the wear and tear on Peavy/Sale/Quintana, uncertainty over Danks' health, Flowers' bat, trepidation about Reed and Jones in the bullpen, about Keppinger holding up as an everyday player...and the improvements in the Tigers, Royals and Indians (on paper), it's probably not minus 8 but minus 3-5 realistically. And that's with Rios and Dunn putting up similar seasons to what they managed in 2012 offensively. Let's remember that Danks essentially provided you nothing in 2012, so his health concerns don't really subtract anything. His ERA was 5.70 in the 53.2 innings he did pitch.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) It is way more complex than this... http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opinion/20...rto-luongo.html Wow, that is complex. I had to stop reading.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) Luckily in 2 years it won't matter and we can be done with that nonsense. Until the #5 team b****es & b****es that they got screwed over by not getting invited to the party.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 09:50 AM) Undefeated in a BCS conference? No. Some mid major undefeated? Absolutely. It's possible. OSU's schedule was so weak this season, people were saying that Alabama may have still passed them had the Buckeyes been eligible.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 08:34 AM) He has to be almost untradeable under the new CBA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberto_Luongo Do we know if old contracts will be altered by the new CBA or will they be grandfathered in? Right now, his cap hit is $5.3333 million, but his salary for the next six seasons is $6.714 mil.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) The 4 best teams in college football right now, IMO, are Alabama, Oregon, TAMU and Stanford. If Hogan had played against UW & ND instead of Nunes, I think Stanford could have gone undefeated.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) Same friend: No worries [friend 3], it's just his opinion. Just because you hoist a trophy doesnt mean you were the best team. ND had reason to be #1 ib the nation and was simply put, UNDEFEATED. Bama has a loss. The SEC is no doubt the best conference in college football, but they arent as good as everyone wants to make them to be. Team like ND, Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon could easily beat the best from the SEC He does realize that ND & Michigan actually played the best team from the SEC?
  12. Jason Whitlock‏@WhitlockJasonManti Te'o translated to English means Brian Bosworth.
  13. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 08:40 PM) that ND fan crying probably paid 5k for his seat. i would cry too. The crying fan might be my favorite thing about college football. It just doesn't happen in other sports as much.
  14. Thanks for all the kind words fellas. Got home from the hospital yesterday, mom and baby are doing well. Now the real fun begins!
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) Disney is stupid for having tonight's game on ESPN instead of ABC. The ratings will be a shadow of what they could have been. It could have rivaled a Super Bowl. The highest rated national championship game ever, Texas-USC which was on ABC, had 35.6 million viewers. Super Bowl XLV had 111 million viewers.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) Someone really overplayed their hand... Bob Klapisch ‏@BobKlap Told Scott Boras asked #Yankees last month if they'd consider taking Rafael Soriano back on a 1-yr deal. Request flatly denied. I was sure that Soriano was headed to the Tigers. Guess it's still possible.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) ron Gleeman ‏@AaronGleeman Gambling was invented so people would feel less dirty about rooting for a team in an Alabama-Notre Dame game. The annoyance of having to deal with ND fans in Chicago (mostly those who did NOT attend the school) overrides any possible SEC dislike I may have. Roll Tide!
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) That whole post is up for debate. There is an ethics part of the Hall of Fame process. Why should that be ignored? Don Drysdale & Gaylord Perry openly cheated, yet ethics were ignored with their election.
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) I had no problem with it. Did anyone see these Tweets from Cameron Worrell?? Prior to the game- @KillaCamWorrell: Dear Jay Cutler, this is how you play in the playoffs through a knee injury. Signed, RG3. After the injury- @KillaCamWorrell: RG3's play has certainly declined since I gave him props for playin hurt. But.... @KillaCamWorrell: I've torn my meniscus in the 1st quarter and finished the game. Dislocated my shoulder twice and finished the game... @KillaCamWorrell: Totally separated my AC joint and broke a piece of my collarbone off and played six more games. All needed surgery. ‏@KillaCamWorrell: That's why I tweeted about Cutler not finishing. Only thing that forced me to not finish a game was a torn ACL and a torn ankle ligament The real question is why would anyone follow Cameron Worrell? Maybe if he was better at football he would have been a teammate of Cutler's in Chicago, instead of being out of the league before the age 30.
  20. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 08:36 PM) He was making the point the the Nats kept a player coming off an injury off the field when he was could play but was at risk for further injury. While the Redskins took a player coming off an injury c and played him when there was a risk of further injury and it happened. Strasburg was completely healed. (And I don't agree with the Nats decision at all) RGIII was visibly still injured and was playing at about 70% of his capability, if that.
  21. On the 6th day, Gary said Let There Be Hockey. I'd like to say that I'm boycotting games as a sign of protest, but no point in lying, I'll be at the UC soon in my Hawks sweater.
  22. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 6, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) That Heyman tweet makes no sense, the situations weren't even close to similar. Totally. A similar situation would be if Strasburg was only throwing 80 mph because of an elbow injury, but the Nats kept him on the mound because it's the playoffs. NFC games should be exciting next week. The AFC games, not so much.
  23. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) Haven't seen a post on the subject... Has Littlehurt's kid arrived yet? Was due on the 1st. Cheers my friend. She was born on Friday and is sleeping right next to me at the hospital right now. Life is good.
  24. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 04:55 PM) USA USA USA It's funny because they are Canadian
  25. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) I hope the Sox make a trade for Carlos Gonzalez Looking at his career .735 OPS away from home, Hahn better make sure COL includes Coors Field in the trade
