  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Sometimes I'm ashamed to be a Bears fan. DITKA?
  2. We had discussed Seattle/Portland as WCQ hosts: Grant Wahl@GrantWahl 1dUS Soccer now willing to stage WCQs on temporary grass. Seattle & Portland could host June games, but concert/UW graduation may prevent it. Best temporary grass fields need time to take root, hence concerns over concert/graduation at Seattle's C-Link Field before June Hex date.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 05:12 PM) I don't see how. I think if Lovie makes the playoffs and loses the first game he's still gone. Tice for sure will still be gone. If they miss the playoffs they're still in the middle of the pack, so the draft pick isn't going to be much better. I think Lovie would be gone too, but it's not a guarantee. It's not about the draft pick as much, but about the aging players tailor-made for a system that will change with a new coach, whenever that happens. To be clear, I am rooting for the Bears to make it to the playoffs, cause the future isn't guaranteed and one playoff game is still better than nothing IMO. But it's just something that I have been contemplating in my head.
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 03:39 PM) They are absolutely out there. And someone's not actually a "Bears fan" if they think that, because they are rooting against the Bears by doing so in this situation. They are the same people that root for the Bears to win the last game(s) of the season when losing would result in a better draft spot - so no chance at the playoffs anyway. Losing is actually better for the long-term health of the franchise, but they'll still want a meaningless win to make it 6-10 or whatever. Not very logical. Some would argue that rooting for the Bears this weekend is not very logical as making the playoffs would hurt the long-term health of the franchise. Just sayin'
  5. I'm going to a bachelor party there in April. I'll be sure to pass along some great couples activites that I encounter up there.
  6. How about all of the technological advances created by computers? All of the programs and machines run by computers that make our life easier? Are those not inventions too? Those same kids he b****es about created all of that by sitting in front of the computer. He is just grumpy because his grandkids don't wanna collect rubbish with him.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 11:32 AM) @dannyoneil: #Seahawks CB Richard Sherman has been informed he won't be suspended. It's funny how differently PEDs and other drugs are looked upon in football & baseball. People are congratulating Sherman for not getting suspended, while so many are anti-Ryan Braun.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) Did the White Sox make the playoffs? The offense wasn't good enough and faded at the end, except when they were eliminated. So the offense sucked because they didn't score enough runs for a league average pitching staff. I see. Yet the Sox outscored 3 of the 5 AL playoff teams.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 27, 2012 -> 10:51 AM) It would depend on what you would determine to be "outproduce". Fangraphs WAR seems to be your number of choice, but I find flaws with that system. According to fangraphs, Francisco Liriano was only .3 WAR less than Mark Buehrle last year, when Buehrle had his typical season and Liriano was sent to the bullpen by 2 teams for failing as a starter. The fact is, this thread is Sox looking for a LH bat. AJ was a LH bat that produced 27 homers last season. The offense wasn't good enough. That production will have to be replaced. Perhaps its players improving. I would expect Viciedo to get better. I think Beckham got better as the year went on. Rios I worry about. Konerko I think will be more consistent now that the chip has been removed from his wrist. Adam Dunn hit .181 after May 26th and sat out the final game so he wouldn't set a strikeout record. There is reason to think there may be a problem there. Ramirez has to be better. De Aza I could see having the same type of season. Keppinger will be hard pressed to match his numbers last season, but if you combine Morel/Hudson/Youkilis, except for the power, it shouldn't take much to outproduce the sum. The 7th highest scoring offense in baseball wasn't good enough? Those are some high standards.
  10. I guess it depends which side of the closer theory you sit on. Some think that nearly anyone close, while some think that only certain players have the makeup. It's the second straight year that Boston traded for a "proven" closer, so we know how they feel. Pittsburgh saved money in the deal, which let them sign Liriano, so I guess they figure that they are better off with Jason Grilli as closer, along with Liriano and prospects, than just Hanrahan as closer.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) The thing I'll always say...how do we know he wasn't on something to help him with recovery/workouts, maybe even just in the offseason, all the way back to the 1980's? His body might have exploded when he got on "The really hard stuff", but no one can prove to me that he was clean when he was on that HOF path from college on. The same thing can be said about every eligible player. There's no proof that any of them were clean. It's not like baseball cared to test them.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) He will. I just hope fans don't boo him like idiot Twins fans did, or even bigger idiot Indians fans did to Thome. You can never underestimate the idiocy of meathead fans, but I think those situations are much different. First of all, he won a WS here and had a much better legacy in Chicago than he did in Minnesota. With Thome, I realize management was at fault, but he still left town for a s***load of money, which fans don't like.
  13. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) Bulls @ Pacers postponed per IndyStar. Pacers must have been too scared after watching that dominating peformance last night.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) Le Sigh http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/eye-on-h...-cory-schneider To make it worse, I have the Hawks as one of my favorite teams on my ESPN app, so I am constantly reminded of who/when they should be playing. Big home game tonight vs. Nashville & Pekka Rinne.
  15. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 10:58 AM) @Andy_Fenelon Between 2004-07, pick following Raiders' selection in first round: Fitzgerald, Rodgers, Whitner, Megatron. Instead they chose Robert Gallery, Fabian Washington, Michael Huff, & Jamarcus Russell. At least Huff is still a Raider.
  16. QUOTE (Boogua @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) I think DPOY should be really interesting with Miller and Watt. I think Watt should definitely win it (20.5 sacks from a 3-4 DE? Wtf?), but we'll see. And Aldon Smith gets to play Arizona on Sunday, the worst O-Line in the league. With a big day, he can reach Strahan's record too.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 09:01 AM) I may be a homer, but I think Rodgers should win MVP again this year. Played behind a banged up o-line all year. Jennings and Nelson missed most of the year. He has an 18:3 touchdown to interception ratio on the road this year. 11-4 record. Although I have no problem with Manning or Brady winning it or Peterson if they make the playoffs. I concur, Rodgers would get my vote. I don't think Manning should win it, that defense is so strong and they have a decent running game, it's more than just him. Von Miller might be just as valuable as Manning is. They went 8-8 last year with a fullback at QB.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 26, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) Bonds was probably on a HOF track before he started bulking up. I could understand his election, plus his numbers, even when giving the juice some credit were beyond amazing. In 2004, he had a 1.422 OPS, with a .609 on-base %. If he got 5 plate appearances a game, he would usually reach base at least 3 times, that's ridiculous.
  19. Merry Christmas to all and Happy belated Hanukah to those we missed a few weeks ago. You crazy bastards keep my work day interesting.

    The Food

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 25, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) Christmas Eve is always a Polish heavy meal at a relative's house. WAY too much kielbasa and pierogi. No plans today for once, probably just throwing a whole chicken in the oven. When we do have a real Christmas dinner, it's usually prime rib. I LOVE rare meat. Polish meal is the way to go. Herring, borsch, bigos, yum yum.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) I disagree here. RG3 and Wilson had better teams around them when they came in. Luck is literally all that team has, for crying out loud they gave up 500 yards to the Chiefs yesterday. Their Secondary is good enough to make Jay Cutler look like Tom Brayd. Luck's only help is Reggie Wayne, and he's literally carried that team. Oh, and for MVP, I'll take Peterson. Again, absolutely nothing around him and carrying the entire load for the team. The Redskins & Colts defenses are essentially equal. One team has given up 371 points, the other team has given up 370 points. The Colts pass D is actually decent, they only give up 235 yards/game, while Washington is in 30th place, giving up 287 per game. The Colts don't have a run D though, while the Redskins run D is good. I do agree that Wilson stepped into a way better situation than the other two, although he has been outstanding. Luck also has 18 INTs to go with his 21 TDs, while RG3 only has 5 picks with his 20 TDs. And if you combined all of the Redskins WRs, they still wouldn't be as talented as Reggie Wayne.
  22. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 23, 2012 -> 08:31 AM) He also had logged 3 concussions on record that they know of while playing baseball. I saw today that he had 9 or 10 concussions during his baseball career. Makes ya think a little bit after what is going with some of the NFL retirees.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 24, 2012 -> 01:18 AM) Lost in all the Illinois moral victories was Jabari Browns 18-7 game. The real question is, what does Jabari Brown think of Tyler Griffey's play?
