  1. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 09:02 PM) LMAO! Could you be more of a wet blanket on this, this being one of the more exciting times in very recent White Sox memory, with the Sox going this aggressively at acquiring a premium talent like Machado? Chr*st on a cracker, already! Here we have for the first time in a long time - a very long time, mind you! - our BIG MARKET ball club talking like a BIG MARKET ball club about pursuing a premium talent like this, a soon to be available asset on the open market, AND giving fairly strong indications that they as a BIG MARKET club will have the ability to meet the market demands and sign the talent long term. When was the last time a White Sox fan was able to get excited about this kind of free agent prospect signing? Yet here you are reigning down with your typical Debbie Downer, “Why, the Sox could never, ever...do this or...do that...” nonsense. As if it were a fool’s errand to ever believe the team could make such an acquisition like this come true. Why, then, should we believe your line of thinking on the unlikelihood of the Sox acquiring Machado vs. what the GM has recently and refreshingly suggested as a different approach when it comes to competing for talents such as his? Hold on a second here. You dislike Reinsdorf as an owner more than I do, yet you legitimately think the White Sox would pay up for a free agent like Machado? Or maybe you are just being facetious?
  2. The most important question from that video is what does that fans shirt say? It's a picture of a large tooth but I can't read the dont.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 06:20 PM) NFL continues to be a laughing joke. What in the world is a catch Meanwhile, in the Panthers game, the receivers left ass cheek hit the ground a split second before his right cheek and they found that enough to overturn a call for a touchdown.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) I think more often than not these negotiations top out at a certain price price. Otherwise you get exactly what happened with the Rangers & ARod where they bid against themselves. As in every negotiation, it only takes one
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 05:05 PM) Every White Sox player that reached free agency and came back for less, had a far longer history with the team than one season, and they weren't in the position Machado is in where he is going to sign perhaps the second or third highest contract in the history of the game. He will have players association pressure to sign the biggest contract he can.To even think the White Sox can get a discount is foolish, certainly not worth all the cost of acquiring him now. Agree 100%. Any previous situation where a player signed for a little less with the Sox is completely irrelevant in this case.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 06:15 PM) It never fails, Wilson appears to be throwing a dud game, then goes off I'm the 4th. Up 29 against Cooks and Drake. Favored to win, but you never know Here we go again. Need yet another second half miracle from Wilson
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 17, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) Greg Olsen is a HOFer IMO. That was a horrible trade. Mike Martz has no use for a tight end
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) This puts the Dodgers under the luxury tax limit of $197 million (I think that number is right). It resets their penalty clock, or whatever you want to call it, just in time for the big free agent class next winter. Thinking about this, the Sox chances of signing Machado or Harper just decreased.

  10. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 11:57 PM) I'm pumped for Swarzak and I hope he kills it in NY. Unfortunately there won't be any leads to protect
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 16, 2017 -> 06:13 AM) Yes, thanks to the Yankee trade. Cranston sure won that one. Walter White?
  12. Sounds like a legit lawsuit and probably means that his rehab isn't going very well. I'm sure the Sox and ISFA have very large insurance policies and we won't hear much more about it after a settlement. Meh.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 15, 2017 -> 01:39 PM) So notably: -Kenley Janson signed with Dodgers for less money (returning team or big market?) - Justin Turner signed with Dodgers for less money (returning team or big market) - Jason Heyward signed with Cubs for less money (...big market?) - Dexter Fowler signed with Cards for most money - Yo Cespedes is up for debate. - Chapman went to Yanks for most money ...It happens but...it sure seems like some of the bigger franchises have been getting discounts despite it being incredibly perverse Jansen and Turner had larger offers? I thought the Dodgers also threw the most money out there. While Heyward technically signed for less money, the potential to opt out in 3 years gave him the potential to earn more money if he signed with the Cubs instead of the Cardinals. Obviously, that didn't work out his way, but I don't think that's the best example.

  15. Well that will shut us up for a few days, nice road win.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) I don't think the Cardinals are anywhere near blowing it up. They pretty consistently put a good team on the field with a fairly steady stream of prospects in the minors. This is a good move by them too. The Cardinals are masters of finding prospects nobody has heard of and getting 3+ WAR seasons out of them in MLB
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 08:47 PM) It was embarrassing hearing Sox fans pronounce his name on the Score today Sox fans were on the Score? Relevancy!
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) Really impressed by the commitment to the white sox to be following Nicky Delmonico's instagram feed. Luis Robert's nearly caused me to delete the whole app. All the self workout pics?
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 10:14 AM) St. Louis Cardinals‏Verified account @Cardinals 1m1 minute ago More The Cardinals have traded OF Stephen Piscotty to the Oakland Athletics for SS Yairo Muñoz and 2B Max Schrock. What a nice move by both teams. If people hadn't heard, Piscotty's mom was diagnosed with ALS, so he asked to be traded closer to home so he can be near her.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 05:44 AM) I think they have every intention of paying him commensurate with his market value. I just think they want a leg up in the competition, or more ideally, to avoid the competition entirely. But nobody knows what that market value is, not Machado, his agent, nor Harper or his agent. Do you know how you determine that market value? Competition. It he has held out this long, it makes zero sense to forgo the open market and sign a deal you hope is the most money.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 07:17 PM) I’m paraphrasing, because it’s behind a paywall, but he basically said it’s easier to sign a guy if he’s been around your culture and sometimes you need to take a risk. Sure, a guy later in his career who cares as much about being comfortable, not a young guy who is the 2nd biggest free agent available.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) I have a serious question nobody has addressed. Why would ANY TEAM, much less our White Sox, trade 3-4 TOP prospects for a one-year rental? There's no chance in hell Machado will sign prior to free agency. Why would he? So rather than flame greg, please answer my question. Nobody has addressed this except me. What player the caliber of Machado has EVER agreed to a long extension with one season to go before free agency. s***, even Cain, Hosmer and Moustakas, who are average to above average players, did not do that and they like Kansas city, a nice, quaint town. Why would ANY TEAM, much less your KC Royals, trade 3 TOP prospects for a two month rental like Johnny Cueto, when there was no chance he would resign with them?
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) Lock him up. Please end all the Harper to Cubs talk. Did you know Harper owns a Chicago Bulls shirt? That can't be a coincidence.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) You’re right, the amateur signing is far riskier and much more surprising. How can it be riskier if it's for significantly less money? Free agents fail all the time. The Adam Dunn signing wasn't risky either, was it? At least the young guy won't screw up your major league win/loss record if he craps out.
