  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) I'm not really worked up, just pointing out that when we re-post links to absurd stories on places like Facebook, or other popular social mediums, we often have the opposite effect of what we intended to have. While we want to point out how absurd something is, and hope people ignore that person from that point forward, all we really did was help sensationalize them and their opinions, generate revenue for that person, and help spread their name. I often believe that when people write things so absurd, that's exactly what they wanted. See Bayless, Skip.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 09:31 AM) I really think you're overestimating how "different" it is here as opposed to frequently compared countries like Japan, China, South Korea, Australia, UK, France etc... Not at all. There are studies that have shown how much more violence is presented in American media.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) I don't see how violent movies or tv shows play into this. If anything, the people that perform these acts are seeking attention, so it's the non-stop coverage of these tragedies that they're going for. We learn what's right or wrong at an early age, violence is no different than cheating or lying. Do we blame movies for Wall Street being a bunch of greedy whores? When certain coaches and administrators at school cheat at sports, do we blame "win at all costs" sports movies? Nope. My concern is that it desensitizies children to the violence. They know it's "wrong", but it seems normal and it's not that big of a deal.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) Those video games are much more popular in the East Asian countries, so I'm not so sure you can make a strong correlation there. And all of the violence shown on TV in America?
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 08:59 AM) That's a pretty general statement. You're telling me Modern Combat is only sold in the states? Is that a video game? Obviously, violent games & movies are available in other parts of the world. But nowhere else are they glorified in the media as they are here and IMO that definitely has an effect on the violence in this country.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 08:39 AM) It's funny how we have the worst homicide rate in the world involving guns for westernized societies, by a wide margin, and half the population thinks it has absolutely nothing to do with our lax gun laws. All the other countries play the same video games, watch the same movies from Hollywood, and have nerdy high school boys who are ostracized. There is one big difference. In those other countries, they censor violence and celebrate sex. In America it's the opposite. A kid can watch someone get their head blown off, but god forbid he sees a boob!
  7. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) This thread has arrived at exactly where I expected it to arrive. Which is: Agree with my opinions and I'll agree you're right. The #1 talking point of the "open minded". I disagree
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 20, 2012 -> 06:18 AM) http://seasonpass.suntimes.com/news_articl...errer_id=596370 Come on BYU!
  9. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN The Cubs have made strong progress on a four-year, $52 million deal with Edwin Jackson.
  10. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 11:13 PM) What's not to like about Kendrys Morales? He's gonna be a free agent at the end of 2013.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) Challenge finale! Anybody but Frank! I'm rooting for Devyn's boobs!
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 05:34 PM) I hate Jason Vargas out of Seattle. Good call, I should have remembered that considering how often I streamed him in fantasy at SafeCo. Although depending who the 3rd outfielder is, their outfield defense should help him out.
  13. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 04:05 PM) That is what happens when you take over a team that won 2 games in 2007 and 3 games in 2008. In the last 2 years, hes 18-8 and has not lost by more than 10 points to any opponent. You never know what will happen, but his team should have won @ Wisconsin this year. Which isnt bad. They hired a flavor of the year mid-major coach. That's pretty standard practice for most hires nowadays.
  14. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) Per Rotoworld....Mariners acquired DH Kendrys Morales from the Angels for RHP Jason Vargas. That deal actually makes way too much sense.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) In general. I just would not have imagined that the next Wisconsin coach would come from a team that is technically rated higher than Wisconsin right now. I figured they would either get a guy from the Pros or a coach on a team that has been meandering. They may be technically rated higher than Wisconsin, but the 3 seasons prior, Utah State has a record of 15-22 in the WAC.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) Houston Astros ‏@astros #Astros acquire RHP John Ely from the Dodgers in exchange for minor league LHP Rob Rasmussen. Ely led the Triple A PCL in ERA (3.20) in '12. What's with the Astros taking all these s***ty ex-White Sox pitchers?
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 11:48 AM) It's funny how you make such a good point yet a group on the board will dispute it just because it's a Marty34 post. The dude had a 96 OPS+ last year, yet people think he's a superstar bat in waiting. Don't forget about the .650 OPS vs. RHP
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) http://www.lazygirls.info/Kate_Upton/Kate_...Bikini_4dueK7xn /passes out I love the couple extra lbs on her.
  19. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) I will agree with you IF Bourn signs with an AL team. Hitting in the AL is much more difficult than hitting in the NL. How do you figure? The pitching talent is just as good in the NL as the AL, if not better. And if you believe in the whole lineup protection idea, NL hitters don't have DHs behind them for protection.
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 19, 2012 -> 01:37 AM) Dual sport athlete. Baseball and lacrosse. Lacrosse? That explains even more.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 05:26 PM) Swisher went to Ohio State, so it makes some sense. He also had messages from Matta and Meyer, so it's probably not as pathetic as when Jerry Krause greeted free agents at O'Hare with Benny the Bull, the Lovabulls and a hug. Well that explains a lot.
  22. Mark Sanchez has finally been benched. Tim Tebow Greg McElroy is your new Jets QB.
  23. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) Alejandro DeAza is no Mike Trout! Are you old enough to remember Mark "The Bird" Fidrych? Google him, look at his rookie numbers, then look what he did after. See also Kerry Wood, Dwight Gooden, Jerome Walton, Mark Prior, etc. Dontrelle Willis
  24. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 18, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) Florida had an in home visit with Jabari Parker yesterday. Duke and MSU tomorrow. Is the home visit when the suitcase is exchanged or do they do it more secretively?
  25. RT @twithersAP Progressive Field lights are on and Nick Swisher's face is on scoreboard as team tries to land FA It sounds like a move to sway a high school recruit, not a professional athlete, but then again, such pandering seems to fight Swisher's personality to a T.
