  1. QUOTE (Sox1 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Andre Ethier would be a nice fit for the Sox. Maybe a Rios/prospect for Ethier & money He's on the trade market even after signing the extension Why are the Dodgers interested in trading him? They have already spent do much damn money, why would his contract bother them? Is there someone they have in mind to replace him in the OF?
  2. QUOTE (PorkChopExpress @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 02:41 PM) I'll guess Ryan Howard. He has to be one of the top 10 untradeable players in all of baseball.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) He has always been incredibly effective as a straight pass rusher and has lost all effectiveness when used for more than rushing the passer. One of the worst decisions of the Lovie Smith era was putting Mark Anderson in the starting lineup over Alex Brown. Teams realized that and would just run straight at Anderson, which worked out well.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) The problem with Dickey (ok, I'm going to give up and snicker) is that there are legitimately no comparisons for him. He doesn't throw like anyone else, so you can't project him...and normally, pitchers at his age would be looking at a precipitous falloff in the near future. Last season I remember him facing Chien-Ming Wang. I realize the uncertainty, but given all the circumstances in this situation, holding on to him for 2013 without an extension is the worst possible move, especially considering how little he is asking for relatively. Either trade him for young prospects or give him a deal.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 12:25 PM) Pro Football Weekly ‏@ProFootballWkly Via @gregaiello, Paul Tagliabue has "vacated all player discipline" from the #Saints bounty scandal. Wow. In your face Roger Goodell. He better be careful during Super Bowl week down in NOLA, those fans are gonna be hunting for him.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 12:11 PM) Chicago Bears ‏@ChicagoBears LM: #Bears have placed PK Robbie Gould (calf) and ST standouts Sherrick McManis (knee) and Craig Steltz (chest) on injured reserve. Well that makes the team better, no matter who replaces him.
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 12:15 PM) Ryan Clady is not going anywhere. He is probably the best LT in football and I'm sure Denver will sign him long term. Even if they can't reach a deal, they will franchise him without a doubt.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 03:35 PM) It was a blast. But ya heard about Red Ivy, that's usually my go to bar in Wrigley as well but we didn't make it there on Saturday. I would love to quit drinking considering "eating clean" and working out does not exist for me during and a few days after binging. Buuuut I like to party. My bank account would also appreciate it. Yeah, I bet Tbox sounded better to me when I was 21, instead of 30. Just a grumpy old man wanting to drink alone now. I'm the same way that any workout plan or healthy diet plan gets sidetracked by any party or weekend drinking event. Oh well, f*** it.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 10:03 AM) Dickey the last 3 years has a 2.95 ERA and a 1.150 WHIP averaging over 200 innings a year. He's been pretty great. He makes $5 million in 2013 and wants $10 million for 2 years after that. That averages less than $9 million a year, less than Gavin Floyd. I know he's 38, but he throws knuckleballs, granted a little harder than most, but I really can't understand why the Mets won't extend him. Yeah, I don't get it. They should do it just to appease the fanbase. They are a large market team that has done a s***ty job of roster management and isn't very close to competing. Suddenly, a Cy Young winner falls in your lap, he's a great story, and fun to watch to pitch. It's not like he's asking for a potentially cripping Johan-type extension.
  10. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 01:57 AM) I guess the question becomes, what defines a collapse? I see only 6 guaranteed wins on the Big Ten slate for UI. Of course, they aren't going to lose every other game. But with 6 teams ranked in the top 17 in the country a team could be pretty damned good and finish 9-9 or 10-8. It helps that they get IU and MSU only once each but only once against Penn St costs a win. Not sure what to think about Iowa. I would be very surprised if Illinois finished better than 11-7, but I also wouldn't consider that a collapse. Nor would I 10-8 or 9-9. Unless of course, someone tells the team they aren't supposed to be this good and they start to believe it and go backwards. So far, they've decided not to listen to anyone and have been very impressive. At this point, a collapse is not making the tourney IMO. 9-9 might not look pretty after their hot start, but the Big Ten is f***ing tough this year. And since Illinois depends on the 3 point shot so much, there always has to be worries that you go cold in one of those "guaranteed" wins and don't pull it out.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 07:49 AM) That's one ignominious downfall for a guy who seemed like one of the all time greats. Tough to not think about PEDs when you look at his decline.
  12. Jesse Spector ‏@jessespector Happy anniversary! RT @TSNResearch: 20 years ago today. NHL Governors named Gary Bettman as the first NHL Commissioner in league history.
  13. If the Yankees don't take him, i don't know where else he's got a starting job. With the offers drying up, maybe the Sox do work something out with him on the cheap? If that's the case, I still would like to see T-Flo get more starts than last year.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 06:10 AM) Get up to see I lost, which I expected, but because of Brady, I only lost by 11. Which means if Bryce Brown could have just run for 60 yards and a TD, I'd be in the semifinals. I'm ill. How do you go from back to back 30 point performances, to 0 pts in one week!!!!!!? Tampa does have the #1 run defense & #32 pass defense in the league.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) We're above-average right now, though that's somewhat inflated by 8 defensive & special teams TD's. Still, we have 9 rushing TD's and 18 passing TD's so far this year. All of last year, we had 10 and 18. In 2010, it was 10 & 23. Above average by what metric? 14th in the league in points per game, which as you said is extremely inflated by the TDs the defense has scored. In yards per game, they are the 28th ranked offense. Sounds below average to me.
  16. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) I'm fully expecting us to lose, after two games where we should've won, I'm not very hopeful for Sunday. I do think it'll be a close game but Cutler has just been awful against the Pack's D. I have very little faith in the Bears winning either, that's why I'm surprised the spread is so low. Then again, the Packers injury situation is much worse than the Bears is, although Woodson and/or Matthews may be available Sunday.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) Cutler and Stafford at times have just horrible mechanics. Lot's of throwing off the back foot. That was always a favorite move of the one, the only Rex Grossman.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 01:03 PM) LOL, 45 huh? When are the next 20,000 letter going out? The entire ticket base is scalpers. That's why I am on the waiting list.
  19. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 01:07 PM) The Bears dropped 6 passes and 2 were TD's. The first INT was a result of Jeffery falling down. Did you watch the game? The pick-6 that decided the game was a direct result of Cutler throwing flat footed and overthrowing a receiver. His receivers sucked balls, but he deserves some blame as well.
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) Wasn't Freddy acquired during the 2003 season before Ozzie was even the manager? Ozzie's first year Freddy was already in the rotation and they traded Loaiza for Contreras. So when Freddy was traded for, they had no idea that the Ozzie factor would make him sign because he was not here yet. Nope, the trade went down June 27, 2004.
  21. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) I heard it was about 20,000 people who bought tickets alone, not to mention the people that went without tickets. And the bars were all within 4-5 blocks of each other (1 street), it was pretty much mayhem from 9am on. That just sounds awful. A good bar crawl is 20 people, not 20,000 people. I hope none of you ran into this guy.
  22. My Dad came to this country 35-40 years ago, and learned everything about baseball from watching the Cubs on WGN. Over time, he got sick of the Cubs & the Tribune Co. seemingly caring more about the experience and Wrigley instead of winning baseball games, so he started watching and rooting for the White Sox.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) That seems like a definite case for a renegotiation. They already did that once before the 2011 season. According to this website, it made his cap hit in 2011 only $4.4 million.
