  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 11:11 AM) Contract details are unclear but some are reporting $4.6mil. If true, that is just crazy money. I saw 6 years, $3.2 million/year. QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 11:30 AM) I agree with this 1000%. He looked, acted and sounded like an incredible douchebag at all times during his tenure as head coach. Good riddance, for the rest of the conference. He never saw a score he didn't want to run up.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 12:30 PM) Now go and sign Chavez to pair with him in a true platoon. That would make me happy.
  3. Meh. I guess there's not much else out there. 3 years is a bit much for a 33 year old.
  4. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 09:32 AM) I prefer Chavez over them all, as he gives you the best chance to win. Chavez vs. RHP, Morel vs. LHP? (Chavez can't hit lefties at all)
  5. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 11:57 PM) I've been DVRing college games the past month, I just wish there was more of it broadcasted. That doubleheader at Soldier Field could be fun, although it will be super f***ing cold in mid-February.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 07:48 AM) So a group of players are meeting with several owners today without Fehr or Bettman around. Today might be the day to make some progress or see you in fall 2013. Even Crosby has been talking about signing in Europe. Yesterday's meeting went into the night and players sound a bit optimistic, not to get anyone's hopes up.
  7. UIC won @ NW, who won @ Baylor, who won @ Kentucky. so UIC is better than Kentucky, right? I love the transitive property.
  8. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 04:37 PM) According to WEEI's Alex Speier, the Red Sox have agreed to a three-year deal with Shane Victorino. 3 years, $39 million. Awful deal IMO.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) Bielema doesnt see much future for him in the conference huh? Wisconsin has 2nd place in the division locked up for the next several years. Although the gap to 1st place may be larger than he liked.
  10. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) I'm sure the money is ridiculous, but depends on your definition of lower-level. They were great the 2 years before the Petrino circus, seemed really on the rise. Plus we all know SEC and B10 aren't exactly on the same level right now anyway. From 1990-2009, Arkansas had one 10-win season. 3 conf. championship game appearances, all losses, two of which were blowouts. They may have been "on the rise" under Petrino, but they still aren't in the same conversation as Bama, Florida, LSU, etc. Of course the SEC is on a different level, and this further orchestrates that fact.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) That's a kick in the testees for the Big Ten. Yeah it is, unless the money is ridiculous. Upper-level B1G program to a lowel-level SEC team.
  12. vaughn mcclure ‏@vxmcclure23 Urlacher expected to be sidelined 3 weeks with Grade 2 hamstring strain. Hopes to be fully healthy for playoffs
  13. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 01:05 PM) Which kind of makes it worse, doesn't it? Yeah, I could see how thats the case. It would have been interesting to see how his career finished if it stayed on the same trajectory. Jealousy is a b**** though, and Bonds couldn't handle all the attention the major PED users were getting.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 12:23 PM) I'm assuming the guy was killed. Is the story online somewhere? Kinda shocking to run that pic. Here is a Yahoo article. Yeah, he died. They are still looking for the guy who pushed him onto the tracks.
  15. Anyone else see the New York Post front page of the guy about to get hit by the subway train? Holy f***. http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/hr...amp;ref_pge=lst
  16. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal Sources: Dan Haren in agreement with #Nationals, one year, $13M. Pending physical.
  17. 4th most points, 1st place in one league 8th most points, 3rd place in another It's better to be lucky than good
  18. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 08:55 AM) Doesn't that say something about how he compares his skills to AJs? I like him saying he wants to play, I am trying to figure out what it means when he thinks he can only be the starter if another (better in his mind?) player isn't there. Not at all. AJ is the returning veteran coming off a career year, Tyler is still the unproven youngster. AJ would be the starter, whether Tyler thinks he is better or not. There wouldn't be a competition for the job.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 08:19 AM) Huh...not used to seeing the Yankees act fiscally responsible Did you see the Andy Pettitte contract? Still the same old Yankees.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 08:11 AM) Bilas admitted he was wrong fairly quickly IIRC. He was the "Herbstreit" in that manufactured outrage segment. I actually like Bilas, he called the Kansas SIU sweet 16 game in 07 and was nothing but complimentary. Actually, he never did and stuck by his guns the whole time, and I think he has a point. The selection committee chooses the teams with best overall resumes to get in the tournament, not the teams that they think have the best chance to win a game. VCU's run in the tourney doesn't necessarily validate that their resume was deserving of a NCAA bid. (I'm agreeing with his line of thinking, not which team had a better resume at the time) That's a big difference with this NIU thing. The basketball tourney is a subjective decision. The BCS has a list of rules & stipulations that must occur in order for a team like NIU to qualify. Those rules were agreed upon by the major conferences. And all those crazy stipulations happened, so NIU is in the BCS, they weren't just "chosen" by a committee. The human voters had like 9 or 10 non-BCS teams ahead of them, so it's not like they thought they were a top-10 team.
  21. QUOTE (Tex @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) I was thinking, between Rose and Bonds, I believe Rose deserves it more. His hits were all legit, and he would be going in as a player. I still would rather see them both out, but if one was to get in, I prefer Rose. Who knows what Bonds would have done without PEDs? He won 3 MVP awards without them. Or at least without the really good PEDs he got from Balco.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 07:49 AM) Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN Paul Konerko could be on provisional USA roster for WBC; Jake Peavy & Chris Sale are not. Andre Rienzo in for Brazil. #WhiteSox Also was told that Jose Quintana (Columbia) & Hector Santiago (Puerto Rico) are options for their respective WBC teams. Keep Quintana as far away from the WBC as possible, he doesn't need those innings. Good to see Peavy & Sale off the roster.
  23. So a group of players are meeting with several owners today without Fehr or Bettman around. Today might be the day to make some progress or see you in fall 2013. Even Crosby has been talking about signing in Europe.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 07:37 AM) We could use a RHP back... How about this Bundy guy? Is he any good? I was originally gonna mention Bundy, but didn't want to sound ridiculous.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 07:30 AM) I'm sure the O's would love him... The problem is how do we match up with them? We need a 3rd baseman, they have Manny Machado. Get it done Hahn. (Yes, I know it would never happen.)
