  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) That's fine, but doesn't change the fact that he was the hot commodity, the Sox were interested, and they won. People using recent history as a citation for why the White Sox won't be involved in free agency and give out huge contracts are looking at a different time frame. I have absolutely no doubt that the Sox will be involved and will pony up to get their guy. That's like saying your friend covered the table's bill at Chili's, so he definitely would do the same at Gibson's. The Sox spending $50 million on a very young international FA isn't all that comparable to a veteran FA who will cost $300+ million.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 08:46 AM) He isn't saying the Sox are interested. He is guessing they might be or should be. I don't think he's reporting here, he is speculating. That's Phil Rogers for you. Meanwhile, countless reporters that provide valuable info are getting laid off left and right. Did you know Curtis Granderson went to UIC and the Sox/Cubs didn't draft him?
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2017 -> 05:22 AM) Yeah it's not a ton of money invested in him so its all good Agreed, The cost was $22 million for him? The Cubs just gave a guy $10 million who just had TJ surgery and can't even pitch in 2018.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 07:50 AM) With 3 straight home games against the 3 worst teams in hockey coming up, the next week will tell us if it's time to panic yet. 6 out of 6 points is taking care of business, but can't say it changed much of my opinion. One home game left in 2017, so they'll have to make up some more ground on the road
  5. QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 09:58 PM) News: Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani has a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow, according to a physical obtained by Yahoo Sports. Details: yhoo.it/2C9PDCe Did he pitch in that big high school tourney that the whole country follows? If so, an injury would be expected given how much they overwork them in that tourney.
  6. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 05:54 PM) Me too. No reason to give assets to someone you could potentially get for free. Question: If the Yankees get Machado and Cole then how does that change things for the Sox? Realistically, at that point, the rebuild is doomed to nothing more than make the playoffs, hope and pray that you can beat the Yankees. If the White Sox repeatedly make the playoffs only to be big underdogs to the Yankees, I would call the rebuild an overwhelming success. All we are looking for is repeated trips to the playoff lottery, then seeing what happens. Anything can happen in October baseball, just get there.
  7. Being an Orioles fan has to be miserable. They seem to have assets to go for it and have had some great talent, but their front office just won't let it happen. We complained about the Sox since 07 but the front office at least tried to win, they just failed.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) Doesn't Cutler have an awesome record on MNF? And then on the flipside, sucks on SNF? Or do I have those backwards? I'm not certain about Sunday night, but yes the numbers show he's been much better than usual on Monday night and much worse on Thursday night's.
  9. Must watch TV - His 19 return TDs with the Bears
  10. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 10:41 PM) Corporate America deals with the challenge of dealing with millennial attitudes every day these days. Surprised we don’t read more about that as it relates to professional sports. I don't think young professional athletes carry your stereotypical millennial attitudes. These are guys who have been at the top of their sport their whole lives, always have been in control, I think they see things differently then a young twentysomething first breaking in to corporate America. It's also a very different setting, if a player can play when he's young, he's gonna be successful.
  11. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 03:34 AM) I told him I probably would, given the years of control and ages, but hitching all your value in a trade of your top player for 1 prospect does seem a bit risky. I guess a lot of it would also depend on how the Red Sox view Chavis, if they think he could be a potential summer call up or if they would need a stop-gap for a year. Although I guess if they want to add power to their line-up, moving Devers would only hurt that particular aspect. It would be riskier if Abreu was your top player for the entire rebuild, but they've already traded so many players with more value than him and stocked up their system, that I think you can risk that if you believe in Devers.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) My bigger money league I am completely dependent on the Seahawks passing game with Wilson, Graham, and Baldwin. Of course, they now face the league's top pass defense in round 1 of the fantasy playoffs. It never fails, Wilson appears to be throwing a dud game, then goes off I'm the 4th. Up 29 against Cooks and Drake. Favored to win, but you never know
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 04:04 PM) The second part of this is something I hadn't seen yet, and is very noteworthy. James Fegan‏ @JRFegan 21m21 minutes ago Jose Contreras is also coming back to the White Sox as an ambassador and helping international prospects acclimate to living in the US It's crazy how long teams have ignored helping out with things like that. So concerned about on the field, not even thinking about how adapting to a new country can affect your on the field performance
  14. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 9, 2017 -> 11:54 PM) I wonder when the national media is gonna realize that the Sox only have like 13 cents in payroll with arguably baseballs best young class. They realize, but then they remember that Jerry Reinsdorf is owner.
  15. "Ambassador?" f***ing John McDonough, his greasy fingerprints are on everything in Chicago
  16. Shea Patterson transferring from Ole Miss to Ann Arbor. That's an upgrade.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 08:57 AM) They are getting more than enough shots every night though. Statistically I am not sure there is much that supports "lack of energy" unless I am missing something. They are right up there in shots per game, but also near the top in shots given up per game. It just seems like their shots aren't of the highest quality or very dangerous chances. On Friday night, they had 51 shots, but in no way did I think they should have scored more goals. They seem to just be happy getting it to the goaltender, which might work better if you have a big net presence up front, which they don't.
  18. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 11:26 AM) True. But most pitchers will still wait it out at get the bigger payout during arb and earlier FA. Some will do it but I don't think it will be as many in this current climate of teams being more receptive to full rebuilds. With the full rebuilds these players are so marketable to to get prospects that they are almost insuring that they will be traded. And if they don't sign the extension, they are almost certain to be traded because their current team won't want to lose them for nothing come free agency. It completely works both ways.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 10, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) Jack Morris and Alan Trammell elected to the Hall. It’s going to be a long, long ceremony in Cooperstown. Meh, Jack Morris shouldn't be in
  20. Maybin and Miller were such hot shot prospects and it took them about 8 more years to become productive major leaguers and neither in the role they were projected. These cases always make me a little nervous about the rebuild.
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 10, 2017 -> 06:56 PM) Carson Wentz might of tore his ACL. The injuries this year have been brutal. Although I think the Eagles can still be competitive with Files in their new system, though there will be a drop off
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) Was incredible last year but he seems like a top candidate for injury issues based on injury history and usage last year Yeah, it's definitely risky. He's always had the stuff though, that's for sure.
  23. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Dec 9, 2017 -> 07:06 PM) You'rw not getting top tier free agents coming off a second straight tank season. Sure you are, you just have to be the highest bidder.
