  1. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 07:14 AM) My ass. He's a premium bat, you never know if a minor leaguer can replicate that production. If they are serious about winning, they need to keep Butler. This is the Royals we are talking about, keep that in mind. They also have the greatest farm system in the history of the modern world.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 10:24 PM) Why would the Royals simultaneously seek RA Dickey and shop Billy Butler? Because they are the Royals. They obviously need pitching, and they could probably get some good pieces back for Butler, and they supposedly have the bats in the minors to replace him.
  3. Only 3 Heisman finalists this time around: Manziel, Teo, Klein
  4. I would be fine with Reynolds if they move Dunn. But both of those guys in the same lineup sounds like a bad idea.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 02:02 PM) Based on very early lines, but my top 5 dogs and favorites for the bowls: 1) Washington +7½ 2) NIU +13½ 3) Notre Dame +9½ 4) Kansas State +8 5) Ball State +7 1) Arizona -7½ 2) Vanderbilt -5 3) San Jose State -7½ 4) Florida -14½ 5) Mississippi -2 Betting on college bowl games is tough. You have no idea how teams will react to the long layoff or how that affects game plans and what not. And then some kids enjoy the free gifts and bowl parties and don't care about the game.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) I don't think the big conferences ever envisioned the specific set of circumstances that happened this year: 1) ND got guaranteed a BCS bid by being ranked #1 2) Florida got guaranteed a BCS bid by being ranked #3 (though a second SEC team would have been picked anyway) 3) The national depth beyond the Top 6-12 teams is so weak that a 12-1 MAC team with a mediocre schedule was able to finish in the Top 16 and get a guaranteed bid. All of this meant that NIU got in and that in total, 9 of the 10 BCS slots were guaranteed and there was only one at-large selection left. Of course, the Fiesta Bowl can't pick Oklahoma to play KSU again, and Oregon had a much better case anyway, so Oklahoma got left out. Of course, there is only one more year of this system and beginning in 2014, one BCS bowl slot is guaranteed to go to a team outside the Top 5 conferences (Big East is getting demoted) no matter what their ranking, so there will be no more "stealing" of bids from the big conferences by the small conferences. I realize that it's a crazy set of circumstances, but they happened. Now everyone wants to take them away after the fact. According to the rules of the BCS, NIU is completely deserving. If it was just about the best teams, then Texas A&M and Georgia should be in instead of Wisconsin & Louisville as well.
  7. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 09:01 AM) The games mean so much because of money. The MAC gets $15M or something like that for getting into a BCS bowl and the Big12 loses out on that $15M by Oklahoma not getting in. If the money is that important, then the Big 12 shouldn't have agreed to the rules that let NIU qualify for the BCS.
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) Please no Mark Reynolds. The only way I would even think about him is if they were to move Dunn. You can't have both of those guys in your lineup.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Dec 3, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) Gotta wonder why Ginn didn't just attempt to fall on the ball and cover it up instead of trying to take an angle on it to pick it up and run. Looks like the Rams have the 49ers number this season. If the Bears have to head to San Fran during the playoffs, they need to kidnap the Rams and put them in the Bears jerseys.
  10. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2012 -> 11:36 PM) Because they shouldn't be there...NIU in, as Herbstreit called it, is a joke. Also, BCS bowls don't mean anything? Pretty sure there's a lot of people that normally watch those games. No, the draw is watching a good football game. Otherwise just match up every bowl game with mid-majors against BCS teams, and you can try for an upset every game. If the games mean so much, why don't the teams advance with a chance to win a title? They are just more games to line the pockets of the people who run the bowls. Anyway, blame the Big Ten & Big East for being so s***ty, that's the reason why NIU was able to qualify.
  11. That was quite the back door cover by the Eagles. That's why they call it gambling.
  12. Why the f*** are people so upset about NIU? Like Oklahoma & their pristine BCS record are gonna provide better entertainment? How many people actually watch the non-New Year Day BCS game anyway? I'm no big mid-major supporter, but why not give them a chance in a bowl game that means nothing anyway? Florida State lost to NC State. Louisville lost to UConn. NIU lost to Iowa. Does it really matter that much?
  13. Loved the Boardwalk Empire finale.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 2, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) Vanderbilt's final coaches' poll ballot: 1 Alabama 2 Georgia 3 Florida 4 Notre Dame 5 LSU 6 Oregon 7 Texas A&M 8 South Carolina Other than Notre Dame way too high, his poll looks good to me.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 2, 2012 -> 03:55 PM) All I had to was win to clinch division and bye, and nobody showed up. Bad coaching
  16. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) This is going to be an awkward situation tomorrow, do the Chiefs have a little ceremony or moment of silence for him, I mean he did kill someone else? Anyway, what a terribly sad story, especially for the coach and the other guy. Absolutely not. He killed an innocent 22-year old woman and left a 3-month old child an orphan. If he hadn't taken the easy route out and killed himself, he would be locked up for most of his adult life.
  17. And since he killed his girlfriend, you can't really rally around his memory publicly or put his number on your jersey. He is a murderer.
  18. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 11:03 AM) Was talking to 2 chiefs officials with gun to his head, then shot himself. How traumatizing for those 2. I think it was the GM Pioli and the head coach Crennel.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 03:13 AM) I agree with your statement in the first paragraph. Are there any storybook marriages anymore? Where neither side plays games and the man and woman are best friends and enter into a life of bliss? Or is it constantly trying to play "the game" like what you described where the girl will only come back if the guy no longer cares whether she does or not? My wife & I have been married for 3.5 years and are best friends and neither of us are playing "the game". But it's never a storybook marriage, there's always gonna be issues you have to work out, but you just deal with it like the grown-ups you are.
  20. I was actually looking into swtiching to U-Verse last night, but for some reason the TV service is still not available in my neighborhood. WTF, it's not like I live in the boondocks.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 03:37 AM) I just want to know why Kent State would go straight to a BCS but NIU can't. Here's hoping a bunch of teams lose tomorrow. I wanna see my Huskies in a BCS game. They need to finish in the top 16 to qualify for the BCS. Kent State was #17, so they only needed UCLA to lose to move up. NIU was #21, so they needed more help. UCLA already lost, but to have a chance, NIU needs losses from Texas & Boise St. So root like hell for Kansas State & Nevada today.
  22. Adrian Wojnarowski with another great article about the Spurs/Stern feud
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 30, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) It would be great for the program if Lynch can get an invite to NYC for the Heisman. He probably deserves to be in the top 5, but I don't think he has gotten enough national pub to get enough votes. Plus, when you are at a lower level school, it helps to be an NFL prospect so people talk about you.
  24. QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 30, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) Hester's been ruled out this week - hopefully the passing game has something like a resurgence without him and this will mark the official, permanent end to the Hester Experiment. He's always been so close to breaking out though. Except for seeing the ball, catching the ball, running the correct route, knowing where to be, being aware of the down marker, and running in a generally forward direction, he's got this WR thing down pat. I agree 100% about Hester. The problem now is that with Jeffrey injured, the #3 wide out is Weems or Sanzenbacher. And it's not like the Bears tight end situation is any good.
