  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 04:50 PM) I'll be moving to Austin next summer. Thanks for the help/advice guys. My cousin actually just moved down there today. Keep Austin Weird.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 05:02 PM) Bears signed C/G Andre Gurode. A 127-game starter with the Cowboys and Ravens, Gurode takes the roster spot of DT Amobi Okoye, who was waived in a corresponding move. Not a corpse. 34 years old, but a 5-time Pro Bowler in 2006-2010. Of course, there is probably a reason why he is not on a roster, but better than a corpse.
  3. Another guy with a huge year at the plate in 2012 gets busted Jeff Passan ‏@JeffPassan RT @TBrownYahoo: Phils catcher Carlos Ruiz suspended for first 25 games of '13 because of positive test for amphetamines.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) Not great, but he's apparently listening to other offers right now so maybe. That's why I don't think the odds are great. There are many better programs out there than Illinois.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) That's a steal when you consider that any coach is going to be a waste the first year or two anyway as they clean up Beckham and Zook's messes. It's a no-brainer, offer him up a blank check Mike Thomas! The question is, what are the odds Tressel accepts?
  6. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 01:39 PM) When the crate arrived, Margaret and her kids were put on a train immediately. Did they ever explain where Gyp gets the liquor from? He seemed to suddenly be able to take over the liquor supply rather easily. I think his connection with Joe Masseria has enabled it, I think Masseria has helped fund his operation. There was also that scene at the coastline, where the crates of booze were flowing in, I wonder if he has an import connection, maybe through Canada?
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 08:11 PM) The Eagles are so f***ing bad. Remember when they signed 3 of the best defensive FAs two years ago? Asomugha sucks. Where the hell is Cullen Jenkins? Only Jason Babin gets noted here or there when you watch their games. You can't buy yourself a championship in football. And Babin just got cut accoring to Adam Schefter QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 08:18 PM) I have no clue what the hell happened to Asomugha... I'm no expert, so don't quote me on this, but I remeber hearing that the Eagles system is partly to blame. With Oakland, they just stuck him on the #1 receiver and let him do his thing. But in Philly, it's more of a zone-type defense, so he was asked to play different coverage schemes. That takes away from what he is best at, which is why people questioned Philly's move to give him so much money.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) I have no inside information so I only go by basic results/stats. If you are all agreeing with me on my basic premise, that just 3 or 4 guys were revitalized last season (if you count DeAza) I contend there isn't much proof that Manto made a bit of difference. Our team couldn't move runners. It couldn't score runners from third and short with less than two outs the entire second half of the season. But it could hit home runs much of the time. At least during our victories. Sounds a lot like our team under Mr. Walker. How about the fact that the 2012 team scored 94 more runs than the 2011 team?
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) Half the distance to the goal line (a) only occurs inside the opponents' 30 yard line (b) involves zero (goal line) as one of the endpoints. You start asking refs to find the midpoint between the offense's 32 and the defense's 24 and you're asking for problems. True, it's not the perfect answer. I just think that 15 yards is too little with long passing plays, but the spot of the foul can be way too big of an advantage for the offense.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 12:25 PM) That's fair, but impractical. Are we going to have the refs keep compasses and protractors to measure halfway between 15 yards and the spot?' They manage to figure out half the distance to the goal line pretty easily. If the line of scrimmage is at the 50, foul happens in the end zone, half of 50 yards would be the 25. Line of scrimmage is at the offense's 32, foul happens at defense's 24, half of that is 22 yards, put the ball on the defense's 46.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 27, 2012 -> 11:03 AM) It's an incredibly unfair penalty for the defense too because they can, in theory, be penalized 98 yards for the infraction, but it's only ever a 10 yard penalty for the offense and, by nature of the rule itself, referees are going to be more apt to call it against the defense. I'm of the mindset that unless it is blatant pass interference, you should leave it alone. Which QB have you seen throw the ball 98 yards in the air? I think the NFL's rule is too tough, but college's rule is too light. Placing the ball on the one yard line is just brutal, but with a 15-yard penalty it makes sense for a DB to commit the penalty and prevent a long bomb. Maybe it should be like minimum 15 yards, maximum is halfway between 15 yards & the spot of the foul? Anything inside the 30 could be half the distance to the goalline.
  12. QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) Boardwalk was good, setting up for what should be a fantastic finale. Absolutely, that Capone quote was outstanding. The previews make the finale seem pretty intense. They obviously aren't scared of killing off popular main characters and the preview talked about a "sacrifice", should be good.
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 05:47 PM) https://twitter.com/11W/status/272780921449639936/photo/1
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) I feel like you can fine people for unintentional hits that wind up breaking the rules. Totally. Some of those helmet-to-helmet hits are more incidental, yet the players definitely still get fined.
  15. Since we are talking about schedule strength, how about Michigan? They lost 4 games. The combined record of those 4 opponents? 45-3. (I'm not saying they deserve to be ranked higher, just an observation)
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) Lance Louis placed on IR, done for the year. Get f***ed Jared Allen.
  17. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 11:20 AM) The betting public make Oklahoma a 13-point favorite over ND. And the betting public made Notre Dame a 17 point favorite over Pittsburgh.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 11:08 AM) Stanford's offensive line is awfully good. You can keep the blinders on as much as you want, nobody should be a 10 point favorite over a team with ND's defense. Well then bet the house on ND if you are so sure. The spread isn't always about what Vegas thinks will happen. It depends on the betting public and if everyone thinks that Bama would crush ND, they have to set the line in Bama's favor to protect themselves.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 11:12 AM) Trent Dilfer said last night that if you don't judge QBs by stats but judge them by the number of their team's flaws they cover up, Cutler might be the best QB in the league. Wow, Trent Dilfer said something positive about Cutler? What is this world coming to?
  20. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 26, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) We spend entirely too much time discussing the freaking Marlins around here. Right this minute, 3 of the 4 threads at the top of this Forum are Marlins oriented. Ozzie fired, Buehrle traded and this one. I mean this franchise is the the National League East for Crissake and a s***ty team to boot. They are the epitome of the word irrelevent. I find discussing the Marlins much more interesting than talking about 4 guys I never heard of getting added to the 40-man roster or listening to multiple people discuss trades for Chase Headley that will never ever happen.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 25, 2012 -> 10:58 PM) I looked at that headline and thought to myself, "now he's getting too much credit". I agree, it's a bit outrageous. Has a QB ever won the MVP with the 24th best QB rating in the league? On the other hand, here's another example of blatant anti-Cutler media bias for no real reason.
  22. QUOTE (MAX @ Nov 25, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) I wouldn't be too surprised to see the new marlins team out perform last years team, or the team contend two or three years from now, so I am not going to condemn Loria for what he did or pretend I know what motivates him. The fact is, they are a highly successful franchise when it comes to winning it all and overcome major shortcomings to do so. Once while loria was the owner. Obviously winning the WS is everyone's goal, so I don't want to take away the significance of their titles. But in 20 years of the franchise, those were their only two playoff berths and neither time did they win the division. But twice they got hot at the right time, so suddenly they are among the top 5 franchises in WS over the past 20 years, while being run like a clown college.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 25, 2012 -> 06:48 PM) Go Hakeem Nicks!!! I need 7.55 out of him to win one league. In my other league, I have a 13.8 point lead with him going against Bradshaw & Jermichael. Winner! Best challenge ever Tom Coughlin.
  24. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Nov 25, 2012 -> 05:53 PM) Indiana's offense is just stupid. Has Jordan Hulls ever missed? Was he a higher level recruit or just a local kid they offered who turned out to be pretty good?
  25. Go Hakeem Nicks!!! I need 7.55 out of him to win one league. In my other league, I have a 13.8 point lead with him going against Bradshaw & Jermichael.
