  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 08:38 AM) Isnt it zero snaps with first team? zero snaps period seems pretty dumb I'm not sure. This is what Campbell said: Then Lovie says he gets more than that:
  2. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 08:08 AM) Fish tanks aren't cheap, boys. I own an aquarium company and those tanks are costing them upwards of $1,000/week for cleanings, $50,000 for the tanks themselves. And once things go wrong, which it will being that they are in a terrible spot and ugly as f***, the costs go up and up. How can they afford all those contracts with aquariums to upkeep! On a serious note, I think a lot of people are mad at this trade for the wrong reasons... The trade wasn't really unfair. I like the Marlins return. It's pretty fair for a bunch of overpaid players. Unless the Jays win a world series, I don't see this trade being a winner for Toronto. I would love to get the Jays haul for the WSox, but at what cost? Lot of $ for injury prone talent and MB. I don't feel bad for the players who signed big contracts and now have to move to Canada. They're called no-trade clauses, boys. You took extra millions so you didn't push for the no trade clause, oh wait now your taxes just went up a bunch. Rookie mistake by Reyes and MB, first time free agents signing away from their original teams. I don't feel bad for Marlins fans. You have won as many World Series championships in the last 15 years as Boston, San Fran, St. Louis and only trail the yankees. You have been through this before, and you usually win these trades. The worst marlins trade was miguel cabrera obviously, but otherwise for the most part their fire sales have added cheap young talent. May have cost them a WS or two, but who knows. I'm upset because the Marlins pulled a video game move. You need talent, you have a underperforming team. You go crazy in free agency only to trade them all the next/same year to bring in younger talent. It's a classic video game franchise move. I don't know if I've ever seen it this bad at the professional level. They even got the DBacks to take on $12 mil for 2 years of heath bell. I'm upset at the other GMs in AA and Towers for letting the marlins off the hook so easily and rewarding this tactic with top level prospects instead of lots of $ to make the contracts realistic and the marlins pay. I agree with about 95% of what you said. The biggest issue here is that the Marlins owners are taking Miami & the taxpayers behind the woodshed. They secured public funding to help build their stadium, but after just one year they completely blow up the payroll. They will still be making profits though, no doubt about that.
  3. Cutler better not play on Monday, no reason to have him go. I read prolonged flying can hurt concussion recovery too. Give him the week to rest, get him ready for the next two games at home. I find it interesting that Campbell takes zero snaps during the practice week. That's probably why he was Mr. Check-Down on Sunday. With a full week of practice, he should be better, anyway the Bears offense was 28th in the league with Cutler, how much worse can it get?
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 14, 2012 -> 06:46 AM) I have a friend who knows some advance scouts at ND who had been scouting potential bowl matchups and they told him Alabama would have been a much easier matchup for ND than KSU or Oregon, and it wasn't even close. They'll take a loss by any team ahead of them but they were really hoping the other two would lose and Alabama would win out. That makes sense. Other than Golson's running ability, ND & Bama have very similar playing styles. Grind it out strategy instead of a run & gun.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 10:18 AM) I'm not so sure Richard is done being a hitman, though. I think I've seen him in some kind of action in the previews. I wonder if Nucky will try to hire him?? I know Richard was friends with Jimmy, but in the earlier scene he said understood that Jimmy was a soldier and it was strictly business. We know Nucky can use all the help he can get.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) Wasn't Michael Young one of the worst players in the AL last year with regards to WAR? Yup, of the 143 MLB players who qualified last year, he was dead last at -1.4. (Side note: The four players just above him were all in the AL Central: Boesch, Francoeur, Hosmer, Delmon)
  7. QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) this is the first thing I thought of...sure he's none too happy. When he signed he had to know that odds were at least 50/50 that he would get traded. Only question was where.
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 05:52 PM) Money aside I'm sure that's not what Mark imagined going to play for Ozzie in MIA. If Mark didn't see this coming, then he needs to hire a new agent. This isn't the first time the Marlins have gone full firesale mode, there is a reason why they refuse to offer any no-trade clauses.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 02:28 PM) If we win the central, which isn't exactly out of the question, they're a guaranteed 4th or better seed right? Or did the NBA unceremoniously change that rule? I think that's still the rule. The only change they made was to allow for a 2nd place team to get the 3 seed if they have a better record than the worst division winner.
  10. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) I can't imagine the Rangers would ever do that. Upton>>>>>>Rios. Plus, they just tried to get Andrelton Simmons for Olt. For some reason they seem to be in the market for a SS. I'd offer Floyd + Sanchez + cash, but I still doubt they'd take that. Olt is a helluva 3B prospect. Arizona wants Simmons for Upton. The Rangers were trying to trade for Simmons to get Upton, but Atlanta said no.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 01:03 PM) Its a team that can beat bad teams, but isn't good enough to beat good teams. This has .500 written all over this season, at least until Rose gets back The OKC game was a perfect snapshot of how the season will be IMO. They were good enough to battle and hang tough with them. But once crunch time hit, Durant & Westbrook took over, while the Bulls were getting jump shots from Deng & Hinrich.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 10:50 AM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale Teams interested in Jeremy Affeldt were told at GM meetings that he was off board and #SFGiants were signing him to 3-year,$18 million deal Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS #cubs sign scott baker, team announces. 1 year deal That's a lot of paper for Jeremy Affeldt. I realize that Theo has a "plan", but it's weird to only see the Cubs make insignificant transactions.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 08:38 AM) We've always got Brent Morel. Or Jose Lopez. Is the roster better with Floyd/Thornton/Lopez or just Young?
  14. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 08:18 AM) People in and around Chicago are spoiled by having two major, central airport in the area. I have always lived within like 15 minutes of O'Hare. I have definitely been spoiled that I can fly almost anywhere non-stop without even having a commute to the airport. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 08:32 AM) One thing you may not realize if you've lived in the Chicago area your entire life: Chicago airports are great for flying in/out of as an end destination. Pretty easy check-in, getting through security, claiming bags, and getting transportation. Chicago airports are TERRIBLE as airports where you have to catch connecting flights, especially O'Hare. Try getting from C32 to F12 in less than 20 minutes. Absolutely. I always hear out-of-towners complain about O'Hare, but it's always treated me well. Except for the downstairs pick-up, it's usually mayhem down there.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 08:24 AM) At the same time, is there a much better 3B out there that the Sox can actually get ahold of? How about an inferior 3b that costs 1/16th of what Michael Young does?
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 08:08 AM) Its not a great deal, but is the kind of deal that is out there for 2012. It is a revenue neutral deal, it gives the Sox a 3B, and it gives them a two hole hitter. It also buys them another year at 3B if they can't bring back Youk. For the Rangers it gives them a starter to replace Dempster, not to mention a starter who has actually proven he can pitch in a hitters paradise and in the AL. It also gives them a very good lefty to add to their pen. To me it isn't ideal, but it does fit for both teams. I get that the salaries match up, but you are still paying $16 million for a 36-year old who had a .682 OPS and hasn't played much 3b the last two seasons.
  17. After 2 games, Illinois has more 40+ point 1st halves than they did all of last season.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) The contracts match almost exactly, plus the players fit needs for both teams. I guess it could fit a need for the Sox IF Michael Young's 2012 was a fluke and not due to the fact that he is 36 years old. And he has only played 65 games at 3B in the past two seasons. And pay him $16 million? No thanks.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 07:39 AM) He is not on your list.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 13, 2012 -> 07:35 AM) And for my first big move... Gavin Floyd and Matt Thornton to Texas for Michael Young, second day of the winter meetings, That would be awful...

  22. Mike Trout - unanimous AL Rookie of the year 1. Trout 2. Cespedes 3. Darvish 4. Chen 5. Parker
  23. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 04:13 PM) Some people are claiming they could get in, just that it was really slow and had to keep forcing it through (haha). Anyways Im not doing anything in my league until its all sorted, this gives me pause: "And will update everyone on next steps for how to handle week 10" What can they even do though? People can just lie and say "I wanted to start that guy but I couldn't access my team" even if they were nowhere near a computer.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) These are Bears fans we are talking about here. They are upset Ditka isn't the coach. I enjoyed the caller on the Score today that suggested Cutler was actually benched by Tice at halftime, and the concussion was just a lie because it sounds better than getting benched.
