  1. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 02:40 PM) Illinois picked up another recruit: PF Austin Colbert Weber can't recruit!!!! Oh wait, sorry, old habits are hard to kick.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 11:55 AM) That's a silly comment given a lot of player news comes down in the hour leading up to kickoff. I realize that sometimes you might need to make a last second change, although there weren't any major surprise inactives this past weekend. My point is that you should set your lineup the best you can earlier in the week, not wait until Sunday morning to look at it.
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 11:46 AM) That's a bunch of BS. ND's defense would keep them in the game against anybody. They have only played one good offense all year, but they did shut them down. The game at the Coliseum in two weeks will be telling.
  4. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 11:34 AM) Anyone who makes this comment must not be in a very competitive league because teams dont even release who is officially active or inactive until after that time. Yeah but you usually know by Friday who is likely to play and you can have your lineup set beforehand. Who this past weekend was truly a 50/50 game time decision?
  5. Anybody who waits until 11:00 on Sunday to set their lineup deserves to lose.
  6. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 10:51 AM) Here's a look at the eight teams in the NFC with winning records: Atlanta 8-1 (Next week: Sunday vs. Arizona) Chicago 7-2 (Next week: Monday at 49ers) 49ers 6-2-1 (Next week: Monday vs. Chicago) Green Bay 6-3 (Next week: Sunday at Detroit) N.Y. Giants 6-4 (Next week: Bye) Seattle 6-4 (Next week: Bye) Minnesota 6-4 (Next week: Bye) Tampa Bay 5-4 (Next week: Sunday at Carolina) Looks like next week game is a battle for the #2 seed... The battle for the #2 seed may have already been played in Week 1. I'm still not sure the Bears win the division.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 08:46 AM) I think people might be overstating what kind of money he's going to get. Everyone in baseball knows the risks with a guy like this, not to mention his body is effectively a lot older than 32. I'd be surprised if he got more than 3 or 4 years, and I'd bet on 3 over 4. The money might be pretty big, but I'm thinking more like $15M per. I think you are underestimating the idiocy of MLB's general managers.
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 12, 2012 -> 09:38 AM) I doubt he plays next Monday. With a history of concussions and playing the 49ers. Might be smart to sit him out. I agree. Apparently, Josh McCown will be re-signed today, presumably to be Campbell's backup for the time being.
  9. Monday Night Football showdown!! Jason Campbell vs. Colin Kaepernick!!
  10. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) You know what he was talking about. It's only a matter of time before we start hearing about how the refs are out to get Illinois in every game. It's like clockwork every year. You are definitely right about the Illini fanbase, but I tend to avoid blaming the refs (except for the 2001 Elite 8 vs. AZ & 2006 2nd round vs. Brandon Roy)
  11. I would offer him two crack rocks, one big tub of chew, and a bottle of Skol vodka.
  12. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 12:20 AM) It's not. Little Hurt is a jealous Illinois fan who isn't happy unless he's b****ing about IU. You are right. Crean looked at him like what the hell are you doing. Glass grabbed the mike and acted like it was a pep rally and dropped the extension in at the end. Very odd timing. Me thinks Glass should stay in the hospitality room drinking with the alumni and away from the microphone. Oh yes, so jealous of the entire state of Indiana. it's #2 on my list of places I'd like to move to, right after Detroit.
  13. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 08:54 AM) According to CSNChicago.com White Sox Insider Dan Hayes, Viciedo is one of several White Sox youngsters who may be available. As evidence, Hayes cited "four rival executives" who believe that Hahn is "open" to trading the young left fielder. Make no mistake about it; Viciedo's days in a White Sox uniform could be numbered because of his contract status. Hayes pointed out in his article that "Viciedo's contract stipulates he must earn 80 percent of the $3.5 million he pulled in last season, which equates to $2.8 million." Factor in the $1 million pro-rated share of his $4 million signing bonus and Viciedo stands to get, at minimum, a $300,000 raise in 2013. At $3.8 million, he may be a bit out of Hahn's price range. Now, if Viciedo's price tag does necessitate a move, what is Hahn's best option? A three-team trade, of course, and Hahn is already thinking the same thing. Hahn was quoted in the Chicago Tribune on Thursday saying that the conversations he's had at the general managers meetings in California "may lead to some three-way deals in the coming weeks." One potential trade scenario would involve the Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres. -The Padres receive Asher Wojciechowski (2-2 with a 2.06 ERA in eight starts at Double-A Corpus Christi) from the Astros and Gavin Floyd from the White Sox -The Astros acquire Viciedo and Double-A pitcher Nestor Molina from the White Sox -The White Sox get third baseman Chase Headley and a prospect (anyone will do) from the Padres. As important as the players involved are, a three-team trade does something that may be even more so. See, by combining Floyd's $9.5 million salary with Viciedo's, Hahn would shave a potential total of $13.3 million from the White Sox' payroll. Hahn could then use that money to lock up Alejandro De Aza into a long-term contract and sign Headley to an extension with money to spare. Outside-the-box thinking, to be sure, but this is an example of what adding Viciedo in a trade could do. In all fairness, this column is not advocating for a trade. In fact, an argument can be made that Viciedo is someone to build the future around. He is young, talented and full of potential. If Viciedo's worth is put into this context, however, trading him could be a great idea. Why in the hell would San Diego make that trade? This Hayes guy is so full of s***.
  14. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 08:35 PM) Purdue lost to Bucknell That's another team Illinois should beat in the B1G. I didn't watch the Illini game, but just from the Twitter updates I am already back in 100%. Something about Illinois basketball that keeps reeling me in.
  15. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) Less bugged by the extension than by the way it was announced. On the court, right before tipoff in a cheerleading fashion? Really? Could they have done it any other way with Crean? Mr. Clap-a-lot? He is an attention whore. *ends anti-IU rant*
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) You have an odd thing for dead people in CF. Dead people would have been better than some of the players that were thrown out there from 2006-2009.
  17. With the trade rumors swirling about De Aza, we would need a CF to replace him. Here is a list of the CFs I think would be a solid upgrade, all other options would be pointless stopgaps: Willie Mays Joe DiMaggio Mickey Mantle Ken Griffey Jr. Ty Cobb Duke Snider Tris Speaker Kirby Puckett
  18. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 12:20 PM) I don't want to get older, I want to get younger where we can with big time type players. ADA is solid, but as a LF he's not nearly the same value as a CF. It's very clear he's not comfortable in CF and doesn't want to play there. I'd be very open to moving him because I believe a LF with his skill set is not an integral part to our success in the future. I wouldn't trade any good, young, high upside long term pieces but I don't think we have many of those anyway. OTOH I'd have no problem rearranging deck chairs and reallocating payroll from one area to another by bringing in proven vets on 1-3 year deals, preferably 1 yr + option or 2 yr + option deals. I think Hafner is a great target. I can't find the stats but IIRC he seems to do very well at the Cell, loves the batters eye or something. If we could dump Dunn, we could realistically get him for 2 years as a platoon partner for well less than we'd be giving Dunn in 1 year. Paulie is getting up there, so extra DH time would be good for him, and Viciedo could use more DH time as well if we're going to be working in other OF possibilities over that span. I would actually love Hafner for 2 years $12M, dump Dunn while eating no more than $5M in return contracts or salary, and you end up with about $13-18M left over to spread out into other areas. I really want Dunn gone honestly. He's a headcase and now is the time to dump his ass if we can. Sorry. Who is going to fill Hafner's platoon role during the 3 months of the season he will be injured?
  19. QUOTE (farmteam @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 11:46 AM) That does seem like a realistic prediction. I don't think it's completely out of the question Illinois makes the NCAA tournament this year, they just might have a problem with an incredibly deep and strong Big Ten. However, if they can win a few good games in conference, that should help them out come selection Sunday. I agree with this. They could greatly improve, but with so many good teams in the league, there is a chance that their record might not be good enough. If they can have a good non-conference season, get some excitement going and the Hall rockin', hopefully they can get a couple big home wins against the top teams. Either way, there is no more Bruce Weber, so things are looking up. In Groce We Trust!
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 11:49 AM) "Miracle 3B"?? I don't know what that means, but 3B I would consider myself pleased with acquiring..... Mike Moustakas Chase Headley Jedd Gyorko Adrian Beltre Ryan Zimmerman Hanley Ramirez Pedro Alvarez David Freese Brett Lawrie (Going to class, let me edit this with more soon)
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi #Tigers have offered a contract to Jeremy Bonderman, sources tell http://FOXSports.com . I hope he makes the rotation
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 08:31 AM) Probably still plenty of free agents still available at that point. It took me a minute to catch that, nice.
  23. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 08:17 AM) Sign Victorino to replace DeAza with Floyd's salary At this point in their careers, I De Aza is a better player than Victorino and a helluva lot cheaper. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 08:17 AM) Sign Hafner & set up a platoon DH with Hafner vs. RHP & rotate PK/Viciedo/Rios/FA OF vs. LHP, to give the starters a rest while keeping their bats in the lineup What happens when Hafner gets injured?
