  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 08:52 AM) typical Boras "milk money out of yankees" move. He has all the power with Riviera talking retirement and few legitimate options. I thought it was a lock that Rivera was coming back in 2013, because he didn't want to end his career with an injury like that.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 09:51 PM) That's just awful. No way Peavy should have won. They showed one defensive "highlight" on CSN this morning. Peavy caught a comebacker and threw it low towards 2nd where Alexei had to make a nice pick out of the dirt to catch it.
  3. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:33 PM) Personally I think the Sox should sell high on Rios. If you look at his past 4 seasons its been off-on-off-on. This team can't afford another 'off' year out of him. I wouldn't mind shipping him off to SD in a package for 3B Chase Headley. In a separate deal, I can see them go strong after Jacoby Ellsbury. The Red Sox are in the process of rebuilding and would love to aqcuire younger talent for their talented OF. Red Sox fans also share the same thoughts: http://news.yahoo.com/time-red-sox-trade-j...00571--mlb.html Chase Headley is younger, cheaper, and better than Alex Rios. Why in the world would the Padres give him up for Rios? I know everyone would love to see Headley at 3rd on the South Side, but I think a lot of people are underestimating his value.
  4. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:36 PM) A Rod is still a huge name with the casual fan. I'd bet many fans will be buying his jerseys. I also think without the NY pressure, A Rod would have a great season. I'm sure he could have a great season or two, but the problem is that he is signed thru 2017. His OPS has decreased for 5 straight seasons now, so I don't see those age 41 & 42 seasons ending well.
  5. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) Seems like just a few weeks ago everyone here was whining that Jake Peavy was over rated and how he always choked in big games. Now everyone is ecstatic that we re-signed him. hmph Because he did choke in big games last year and he was looking at a $22 mil option, which would be an overpay. But despite constantly losing to the Tigers last season, he still had a hell of a year, and for $14.5 million, I think he's worth that money.
  6. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 05:12 PM) Peavy gets $14.5M in both 2013 and 2014. If Peavy reaches IP thresholds in 2013 and 2014 seasons, he can extend contract to 2015 at $15M. Chris DeLuca - SunTimes Awesome. Two thumbs up for both sides.
  7. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 03:12 PM) Sign a big name free agent every off-season whether you need them or not - that's what the Angels do, and their setup is very similar to the Sox. There's NOTHING to do next to the Stadium but they still pull 3 mil every year. In my experience, there were still a ton more restaurants and such nearby Anaheim Stadium than by the Cell.
  8. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) Seaside Heights was bound to get the wrath of God for a few years now, so at least in this particular instance it isn't as surprising. Are you saying that this is God's payback for the Jersey Shore TV show?
  9. For all of you that think Donald Trump has no compassion, he is here to prove you wrong. Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump Because of the hurricane, I am extending my 5 million dollar offer for President Obama's favorite charity until 12PM on Thursday.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) I would hope for KC's sake they could get a starting pitcher more projectable than Quintana. I'm sure they'll try to get guys like Hellickson, Matt Moore, etc. That's true, but this is Kansas City we are talking about.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) Let's face it the only way we can beat out Detroit is if Detroit sucks whether thru complacency or laziness. They are smart enough to realize all they have to do is win this s***ty division to position themselves for a nice run to the WS. On paper they are so much better than anybody else in our division because of $$. My hope would be they won it all to get it out of their system. Now they can sleepwalk all year again if they wish, let their talent take over the final two weeks and in head to head meetings vs. the Sox when they get up for the games, and the rest is history. Does anybody think there's any way in hell we beat them out next year? It'd be a massive upset to win the division and we know we're not gonna win the wild cards. I simply despise having to play our divisional teams 19 times. That is yet another of the things very very wrong with baseball. And it was all so the Yankees and Red Sox could play 19 times. Horrible and it is killing the White Sox. We far way better against teams outside the Central. The Sox just can't get up for these lousy Central Division teams. And with Buehrle maybe heading to Minnie, damn, we are doomed IMO The calendar has yet to turn to November, free agency has not begun, and we already have our first post declaring the 2013 White Sox dead in the water. You da man greg.
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 07:26 AM) Nedd 2.5 from Vernon Davis in one league, and 6.8 from Gore in another. And Cardinals +7.5 please And Gore got 6.6, so that's a loss by 0.1. In that same league, I also have a victory by 0.04 and a loss by 0.04. Crazy
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 08:43 PM) Three feet of water on the NYSE floor. Apparently, that was BS. As awesome as Twitter & social media are to provide news updates, they also allow for many hoax pictures & stories.
  14. Holy hell are the Cardinals bad. Tackle somebody. And that decision to punt on 4th down from the 37 was Ron Rivera-esque.
  15. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) Sounds like someone who doesnt drive on LSD often. LSD is generally the best road when there is a snow storm as it is easy to clean and they do it very regularly. It was a "perfect storm" that a bus went off the road at one of the worst exists, effectively shutting down the road going north. Im pretty sure there werent any issues going south, so it was literally just a fluke. I have used the road every day for the last 7 years, at the last minute I chose not to take it because the visibility seemed extremely poor. Weren't there numerous warnings to not take LSD because of the wind surge coming off the lake? You were obviously smart enough to avoid it because of the conditions. Those people had it coming to them.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 04:01 PM) Huh? They'd be getting rid of Buehrle for the exact same reasons they got rid of Heath Bell. They got rid of Heath Bell because he extremely underperformed and was running his mouth. Buehrle has not done either of those.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 12:44 PM) For local effect... they are now predicting that around Wednesday, there will be 20 to 30 foot waves in southern Lake Michigan, as the storm remnants cross the eastern Great Lakes and shove the water west. Could be significant lakefront flooding in Chicagoland. Also, seperately... anyone read about the HMS Bounty? Replica ship now mostly for tourists, lost power, foundered and sank off North Carolina. 14 people had to be rescued, and 2 are missing. WTF were they even DOING out there in this? Sounds like the same geniuses that were on Lake Shore Drive during the blizzard
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 12:05 PM) It's just amazing to me that so many took my dislike for the specifics of the rule as "THEY BLEW THAT CALL!! HE WASN'T OUT OF BOUNDS!!!". I already said they made the right call, I am just disappointed in what the rule actually is. But like I said, forget it, move on, I can't win here. If it happened against some other team, maybe. What would you make the rule then? It's OK to be out of bounds in the back of the end zone?
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) I don't consider the Tigers a "rival". This isn't college football. But hey, if you want to hate teams out of jealousy, that's your right. Who said anything about jealousy? It's called dislike. I root against the Tigers the same way I root against the Lions, who obviously have had nothing to be jealous of. Even when the Tigers were losing 100 games, I was still rooting against them to lose more.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 09:40 AM) My team didn't win the World Series, so any joy taken anywhere else is pretty pathetic. Are we really going to lower ourselves to a performance like last Tuesday, where Cubs fans rejoiced all day like it was their super bowl? Half the fun of watching sports is rooting against your rivals. f*** yeah I'll enjoy Detroit falling on their faces.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 08:47 AM) Many NFL players have also learned that there's no such thing as "a little pregnant" Especially Antonio Cromartie
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) It will be interesting to see Harden go from being the 3rd option on the Thunder, to the first option on the Rockets. He is going to have a lot of pressure on him to perform, where he was pretty well protected in OKC, by a couple of legit superstars. When the pressure was on him in the NBA Finals, he pretty much disappeared.
  23. Nedd 2.5 from Vernon Davis in one league, and 6.8 from Gore in another. And Cardinals +7.5 please
