  1. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) Because they played like s*** for 95% of the year, and then snuck in to the playoffs when the Sox choked it all away. They didn't deserve to make the playoffs. Obviously they've kicked ass since making it, but I mean they didn't even deserve to make the playoffs. What's your opinion on the 88-win 2nd WC team Cardinals making the WS? If the Tigers aren't deserving, then there is no way St. Louis is. Might as well cancel the World Series, since no one deserves to be there, right?
  2. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 06:06 PM) They're deserving. One thing that might slow them down is an extended NLCS. That's what happened in 2006, hopefully we get a repeat. Enough talk about ARod & Swisher. They are old and/or s***ty. What the f*** happened to Robinson Cano? Dude has one of the sweetest swings in baseball, ended the regular season 24 for his last 39. He went 3 for 40 in the postseason.
  3. Roberto Luongo's Twitter is pretty damn funny: Strombone ‏@strombone1 Well F@CK that I just ordered desert ice cream with the Mickey ears! Not like we are going back to work anytime soon!
  4. The players gave the NHL 3 counter offers today. Gary Bettman came out of the meeting and said the proposals are "a step backwards" and that they were "nowhere close" to the league's offer. Ugh.
  5. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 10:31 AM) This doesn't really/shouldn't really do much. The Red Line is running on the Green Line tracks, which is an extra 2 minute walk. Not everyone is aware of that, especially if one doesn't ride the CTA very often. The Sox would be well served to have some kind of advertising campaign to inform people of the Green Line option.
  6. I guess we will find out if prices really did keep fans from the park or if they will find another excuse to not attend games.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) They're even dropping parking prices. Maybe Rahm will help out and lower the city tax portion of the parking cost?
  8. Does anyone else think we will be having the same discussions about Albert Pujols in 5 years or so? His numbers are already declining. When he turns 37, he is still going to have 5 years, $140 million left on his contract.
  9. Alex Rodriguez OPS: 2007: 1.067 2008: .965 2009: .933 2010: .847 2011: .823 2012: .783 He will turn 38 next July. PEDs & greenies are illegal. Keep that in mind people.
  10. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) Bob Brenly not returning to the Cubs. Can we trade Bob Brenly for Hawk? Please??????????
  11. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 09:19 PM) Traded Bradshaw and Bowe for Tom Brady.. Im sick of Rivers and with all the whispers of bradshaw having foot problems and david wilson looking explosive in practice i thought it a good time to sell. Dwayne Bowe is too hit or miss for me too, he can score 20 or he can score 2. Tom Brady is a safe bet on most weeks, i just hope this works out in a big way. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) Beats Brian Hartline, i got my Bowe jersey on pre-order #superdolphins #superbowl
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 06:08 PM) Not in spite and he does have a few of his players he recruited with him. Just sounds weak to blame him for any shortcomings this year. Move on. Not his fault Richmond was a Dbag. Groce is making a good first impression. I hope Paul is great this year. I see, I get your point. Still just a bit frustrated over the 2 tourney apps in 5 years, the worst stretch in 30 years in Illinois. It was more than just Richmond, but it is time to move on, whatever. I do like Groce and I am expecting some big things. From what I hear about his offense, Paul could definitely flourish this year.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) How long of a grace period do Illinois fans get to lame Bruce Weber for any struggles they have from now on? Even if he has success at Kansas State this year? What does Weber's succes (or lack thereof) this year have to do with Illinois? That's him coaching with someone else's players. He did a great job of that in Champaign, his struggles came with the players he had to bring in. Your question was in spite, but I will answer it honsetly anyway. Personally, I give Groce two years, then I will expect some major improvement by 2014-2015. In today's NCAA, your freshmen/sophomores need to contribute majorly, no excuses that they need to get older and develop.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) First coaches poll out 3 Big Ten teams in top 5. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings/_/poll/2 Not even a single vote. Thanks again Bruce Weber!
  15. I've watched this video 10-15 times today, and I laugh out loud every time I watch it. (A couple of F-bombs if you have the sound on, but other than that safe for work)
  16. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 12:19 PM) Is it because of the FieldTurf? Are World Cup qualifiers required to be played on grass? From what I can gather from Google/Wikipedia, FieldTurf is allowed for FIFA matches if it is given approved status by FIFA, and I believe Seattle's stadium does have that approval. However, I think it's the choice of the USMNT to not play their qualifiers there. A good chunk of players don't play in the MLS, so they wouldn't be used to the pitch either, and it wouldn't really be an advantage. I don't think the FieldTurf is very popular with players.
  17. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 10:46 AM) With all this discussion about ticket prices, I really think that's only a small part of the problem. The biggest problem IMO, is the performance of the team on the field. The excitement and expectations for the team are low right now. The season ticket base is probably only around 13,000 or so. The best way to build that up is to win and continue to win. And by "win" I mean post-season baseball. Not just hanging on to first place for a few months out of the season. I can pretty much guarantee that if they make the playoffs 3-4 times in the next 5-6 years it won't matter how much the tickets cost. The place will be full. This is kind of the point I have been trying to make. It's not as simple as "It's too expensive to go". Playoff tickets are even pricier and they nearly sold out pretty damn quickly. I think it's more that "These tickets are too expensive to watch this non-playoff team". Especially after the sub-par performances under the manager who cared more about himself than the team. Tickets weren't cheap in 2006-2007, yet attendance was between 33-36k every night for the whole season.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 09:00 AM) Sites will probably come out later, but I'm sure Columbus will have the Mexico game, KC will get another, Foxboro will have one and then possibly RFK/Meadowlands/LA. Would love to see a game up in Seattle, preferably against one of the stronger opponents (Honduras). I'm not a big fan of having games in those large football stadiums. I feel like it just gives opposing fans way too many chances to fill the stadium, considering soccer is not the most popular sport around here. 4 years ago I went to the Honduras qualifier at Solider Field, and the crowd had to be like 70-30 pro Honduras. When they scored the first goal, the stadium was louder than I have heard for any Bears game. Stick to the small soccer stadiums in mid-size towns like KC, Columbus, Salt Lake.
  19. I read something in a live game blog last night, that due to some turf issues, Seattle can't host a big USMNT game? I have no idea what that meant, especially considering that Antigua can host games, but that could be a reason. Obviously that would be one of the best home crowds you can get.
  20. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 04:15 PM) @BradBiggs #Bears have relased former 1st round draft pick Chris Williams per NFL source Thanks again Jerry Angelo. Marc Colombo was bad luck. Chris Williams was a bad pick.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) Sweden came back from down 4-0 to earn a draw at Germany today. Incredible. Wow! Same team that struggled with the Faroe Islands last week. So much for our hopes of Canada knocking ou Honduras. 4-0 Honduras after 35 minutes. edit: Now it's 8-1 Honduras
  22. I keep hearing about Reddit, but I have no idea what it is, how to use it, what it does, what I can find there...
  23. The Poland/England qualifier is probably gonna get postponed due to too much rain and an unplayable field. Despite the fact that the new stadium in Warsaw has a retractable roof.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) No, quite to the contrary, the point is that you can't expect to sell 3.2 million Sox tickets at the same or similar price point you think a Bears game should be. If tickets were $5 apiece, you'd get way closer to that number. It's got nothing to do with "the economy," and everything to do with supply and demand. But if tickets were $5 apiece, then payroll would probably have to be drastically reduced. Then you might have a hard time selling 3.2 million tickets to watch a s***ty baseball team.
  25. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Oct 16, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) not necessarily germain to the topic, but the cubs just announced they are cutting ticket prices by two percent next year. bleacher seats cut by 10 percent. That situation isn't totally comparable, because the Cubs GM has publicly stated that they will not compete for a playoff spot in 2013, and probably not in 2014 either.
