  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 11:26 PM) Benoit's way too prone to home runs. You just can't have that as a closer. Their only good option is Verlander and he can only pitch twice this series
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 11:21 PM) Albuquerque's a little too wild. I think Dotel is the best bet. Albuquerque has better stuff, but I agree Dotel is safer. Benoit seems to have lost it.
  3. Big half inning here. If the Yankees can score now, then no Cabrera/Fielder until tomorrow.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 11:18 PM) What convinced me was when he pitched that game against the Marlins (I believe) which he just got rocked and they immediately shut him down after the game because he supposedly wasn't sleeping well due to the decision. They shut him down then because he got rocked and it's easier to say that he needs to rest. If he took his next start and pitched 8 shutout innings, how do you tell your fanbase that he can't pitch anymore? Much easier to do after a horrible start.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 11:08 PM) Everything I've seen/heard from Strasburg makes it seem like he desperately wanted to try and help the Nats win now. If that's the case, then yes, Strasburg may now regret hiring the "best" agent in baseball, who cares 100% about $$$$.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 10:55 PM) How long until they start using somebody else as closer? Valverde's given up 7 runs in his last 1.1 innings. There is absolutely no way he comes out next save opp. Although Benoit & Dotel can't be giving much confidence to Tigers fans. Maybe Albequerque(sp)?
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 10:54 PM) Strasburg probably doesn't. That depends. Does Strasburg care about winning now or maximizing his career earning potential? Now he has less innings on his arm and his team was upset in the playoffs without its ace, which makes him seem more valuable. That's Boras for you.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) Cabrera is an awful "leader". Dotel got all pissed at him the other day because he wouldn't talk to reporters after Valverde blew that game in Oakland. When a journeyman relief pitcher is questioning your leadership abilities, you suck at being a leader. I hate all the clubhouse "rah-rah" chemistry BS, but there is something to be said for the difference between the Tigers dugout right now & the Cardinals last night after going down 6-0. What happened sucks, but there is still a game to be played. Pump the team up, you are a Triple Crown winner, tell them you will win the game if you get to bat again. Don't pout and cry. Another reason to root against the Tigers.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) If you turn on ESPN right now, there's a story coming up that says "Tigers take Game 1" I caught that, then the sidebar suddenly disappeared.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 10:39 PM) Awesome video of Valverde's reaction there That video makes up for the entire sadness of September right there, especially if it costs DET the series. How about Cabrera pouting in the dugout? Calm down, be a good leader, get your team going to get the lead back.
  11. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 10:42 PM) Are any of you concerned that revenue will tumble with the red line being worked on next summer? It's definitely going to complicate things for me to get down to the ballpark from the loop. Just take the Green Line, it's an extra 1-2 block walk, tha's it.
  12. f*** YOU PAPA GRANDE!!!! f*** YOU!!!!
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) And awful Qb play from other teams. Irish fans will be more unbearable if they win this. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) Refs in the ND-Stanford game were PAC-12 officials. Whining about the refs is for losers. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) The excuse is that they are trained referees and you aren't.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) A Rod is owed $114 million plus $6 million each for homer 660, 714, 755, 762 and 763. Scott Boras is a f***ing genius. As much as us fans hate him, if I were a player I would want him as my agent.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) I'd love to be proven wrong, but I think the Tigers sweep the Yankees. Yanks just have too many guys struggling at the plate, and the Tigers have big time pitching match-up advantages after this game. As of about an hour ago: Cano, Swisher, A-Rod, & Granderson were 9 for 85 in the postseason so far. Going into the playoffs, Cano was the hottest hitter in the world. If the Tigers sweep, that means they can set up their rotation perfectly w/ Verlander. Ugh.
  16. I don't necessarily believe in "clutch" hitting when it comes to baseball, but Carlos Beltran has a career 1.306 OPS in the postseason. Wow.
  17. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 11:22 PM) The field was in horrible shape, the size of the playing area was smaller than normal and basically the entire Antigua team plays together on their USL team. Wasnt a good performance at all but just take the 3 points and try to finish it off Tuesday. Then you have a few months to figure it out going into the Hex. The Hex has the potential to be US, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, & Honduras. Holy Central American road games there. It would be nice if Canada can manage a tie @ Honduras, Toronto is a bit friendlier place than Tegucigalpa is.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 11:01 PM) And Cain. Looking like Gio will get the win over former ace Wainright as well, although Gio was far from dominant tonight. Jinx!!!!!
  19. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Oct 13, 2012 -> 04:00 AM) Don't think Strasburg would of made a difference, Edwin Jackson sucks game 4 instead and pretty much Detweiler pitched as well as Strasburg would have. If Strasburg was pitching last night, I bet he does better than only 5 IP, 3 ER. Gio let the Cardinals back in the game.
  20. It will be interesting to see if Girardi puts A-Rod back in the lineup. All 4 DET starters are righties, so playing Chavez & Ibanez over A-Rod would make sense.
  21. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 08:14 PM) I'd give that a start. $10 max. Considering that $6 of every parking pass goes to city/county taxes, that would give the Sox $4 for every car that shows up. That will help the payroll.
  22. Bryce Harper is so the next Nick Swisher. Probably a better player but definitely grade A douche
  23. A win's a win, but that was just an awful game to watch. The bar had various South American qualifiers on other TVs and it seemed like they were playing a completely different sport. Just get a tie on Tuesday and worry about improving next year. But man, Klinsman was a few minutes from possibly getting fired already.
  24. Comcast only carries the spanish version of BeIn, which is only showing the US game tape delay tomorrow. So off to the bar for me. I have a funny feeling about this game, I see a 1-1 tie happening, which would require a home win vs. the Guatemalans on Tuesday.
  25. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 12, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) You have to figure the Sox have done the math that lowering the ticket prices wouldn't equal more revenue when accounting for the increase in attendance and money spent on concessions. The bottom line is revenue (at least that is the Reinsorfian model), so you would have to imagine, the set the prices for what they deem to maximize the revenue. Exactly. Lower ticket prices & higher attendance could actually lead to a lower payroll.
