  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) Boston still has Ortiz, who had a great year, albeit shortened by injuries. He played in a little over half the games in 2012. Baltimore?? Can't say either way. but it's unlikely they absorb a contract like Dunn's. If they had a choice between Dunn and Johnson, they would prob take Johnson. With their playoff run and fan enthusiasm returning, the Orioles may have more money to spend, so they could be willing to take on a larger contract. Although, if Mark Reynolds is still around, I don't think you can put the top two strikeout artists in baseball in the same lineup. Either way, they aren't gonna take Johnson as a full-time player. Let us all please remember that he is a 32-year old with 56 career MLB home runs.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 09:50 AM) Who are big market teams in the AL that need a DH? Baltimore? Boston? No way in hell Boston would take on Dunn. I'd expect them to re-sign Papi for a year. Even if they don't, trading for Adam Dunn does not fit their rebuilding plan at all.
  3. QUOTE (farmteam @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 09:47 AM) Romney was definitely more charismatic, but I didn't really feel like he "won" so much as Obama didn't even show up. Romney didn't really say anything, he was just more confident about saying nothing of substance. More like Obama's speech writer didn't show up.
  4. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 09:37 AM) In 31 plate appearances over 14 games, Dan Johnson surpassed Dayan Viciedo and Gordon Beckham in offensive WAR. Fun with sample sizes!
  5. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 09:55 PM) Ahh. Gotcha. I think Oakland is gonna steamroll the Tigers. They are on fire rigt now. I hope so, but having to go to Detroit and face Justin Verlander is a good way to kill momentum.
  6. QUOTE (SouthSidePride05 @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 05:54 PM) There are Sox fans everywhere in the Chicagoland area. And they're the most passionate fans you'll ever find. When they make the playoffs, tickets sell out within minutes, and the fans go nuts. They show up at Midway Airport, 5000 strong, to welcome home the team when they return after clinching a playoff series. Sox fans live and die with every pitch. I honestly think they're one of the best fanbases in all of sports. So they are so passionate yet tickets only sell out for the playoffs? GMAB with the "Sox fans live and die with every pitch". I was at the Tuesday Detroit game, and the place had no energy at all. A first-place team with a 3 game lead and a chance to put away their rival, and it might as well have been a May game against the Mariners.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 09:53 PM) Youk had some pretty strong comments relating to the attendance and being shocked that the Sox, despite being in a pennant race, were playing second fiddle to the Cubs. Youk's short stint in Chicago has confirmed his reputation as a giant horse's ass. I hope they don't re-sign him just so I can stop rooting for him.
  8. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 10:55 PM) LOL Sportscenter. Top 10 plays, #3 was Dan Johnson's 3 home runs. Problem is they showed Konerko's HR as the 2nd one...then for the 3rd one..."Johnson, back on the left side for his 3rd one." Nobody cares about the Sox
  9. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 05:48 PM) The A's crowd was awesome! I'll be rooting for them after that f*** them, they don't bother to show up for the other 80 games. Their attendance is worse than the White Sox!
  10. Barring a Rangers comeback, this would be the 3rd time in MLB history a team only spent 1 day alone in 1st, the last day of the season. 2006 Twins & 1951 Giants
  11. Josh Hamilton just straight up dropped a 2-out flyball to break the 5-5 tie.
  12. With the division on the line in game 162, Ryan Dempster is pitching to his battery-mate Geovany Soto. "Headlines you wouldn't believe back in March"
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 01:07 PM) The problem is nobody else had problems beating those Detroit pitchers before we let them off the hook. Detroit was losing to everybody not named Chicago for a long stretch and those KC pitchers are horrible. If you stretch it back a bit, we got shut down by a lot of other clown pitchers this season. Max Scherzer - From July 18 - Sept 23, the Tigers went 11-4 in his starts Doug Fister - From July 7 - Sept 27, the Tigers went 11-4 in his starts Justin Verlander - From July 4 - Sept 29, the Tigers went 11-5 in his starts
  14. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 12:19 PM) Would love to see the Yankees eliminated in wildcard game. Bailey would have made it great day. Imagine the AL with only one wild card team. I think this season would have been even better in the AL without the 2nd wild-card. The Yankees would be guaranteed at least a game 163, but one of TEX/OAK/BAL would all be potentially eliminated from the playoffs today. In the NL it kind of sucks. The 93-win Braves could get knocked out in one game by the 87-win Cardinals.
  15. I'm strongly rooting against Washington & Detroit. If I had to pick a result to root for, I'd like to see Texas win a game 7 in St. Louis.
  16. QUOTE (Real @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 05:35 AM) The in-town fans don't either. Oh wait, the economy is terrible in Chicago but nowhere else. Fact: Sox fans in Chicago couldn't care less about this team. The Sox could have made one game "Dollar night, all tickets $1.00" and the place would not have sold out. Stop b****ing when people rip the Sox fan base because it's THE worst large market fan base in baseball. I have to agree with this for the most part, although I think Braves fans could give us a run for the money. At least Sox fan sell out the park IF they make the playoffs. Braves playoff games are often not filled to capacity.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 10:20 PM) I can't believe so many people on this board are OK with ... a.) the Sox collapse. b.) the Sox becoming totally irrelevant in Chicago and around the country. You guys got your wish. Big bad Ozzie is gone. And with him is any interest in our team outside of our 15,000 diehard fans which includes all of us on this board. That's it. We're like the Blackhawks, a very very very limited fanbase. And nationally we are now totally irrelevant without Ozzie making headlines. Robin is fine. He says nothing of interest. At first I thought he might revolutionize managing, I thought he might be that special. It seemed like he really had a feel for the game. But as it turned out, his team "quit" on him every bit as much as they "quit" on Ozzie. But you are all happy because at least Robin didn't "quit" like Ozzie allegedly did which is the biggest misnomer in this board's history. Forgive me for being so mad at the team's collapse. I know the Sox were beat up, but so were a lot of other teams. Cabrera was hurt and we didn't even try to bunt at him. When exactly were the Sox relevant? The day the won the WS? That's it. Ozzie never made the team relevant, he just made his mouth "relevant". ESPN wasn't following the Sox results ever, just what Ozzie was saying.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) The way I see it, if I'm Rick Hahn (and we did graduate from the same high school only a year apart), I give Jerry a three scenario presentation.... 1. Tear it Down - trade away everything that you can get something of value for that has a contract for 7 figures. Acquire all prospects possible. Shoot for 2014 or 2015. Payroll cost: $50-$90M. 2. Tweak to improve - this is the plan I started the thread with, basically. Try to get just a little better, which combined with some maturing young players and stretched out pitchers, might give the team the +5 games it needs to get there. Payroll cost: $95M-$105M 3. Go for it - need enough money for the Tweak scenario, plus enough to go get a 3B, and a few mill for a better pitcher pickup. This puts the team in the best spot, competitively. Payroll cost: $110-$120M. Which do you think Jerry would want? I think Jerry would go for #2 right now. He's not the type of person to support #1 unless it got real bad. After the disappointment of "All In", I don't think he would be willing to spend enough for option #3 either.
  19. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) Alexei learned not to arrive late though. It's all about the little battles in the game. Not the time to be teaching a lesson, Robin. You didn't see Olazabal benching Rory McIlroy for nearly missing his tee time, not with a championship on the line.
  20. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 07:40 PM) That's messed up. I just don't see the point in putting him in jail for drunkenly teabagging a dude. What if he teabagged a random woman, would you think differently? In the end, there is no difference, it's still dropping your genitals on an unsuspecting & unwilling person, basically sexual assault. It wasn't even a "prank" on a person he didn't know, it was a complete stranger. Now the idiot's poor son has to be away from his father for almost a year.
  21. Meh, I don't see why that bothers people so much. I don't root for the White Sox to be in the cool crowd. For such an insignificant team, they somehow are able to have a top 10-15 payroll every year, so somebody has to be paying attention to them for that money to be there.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 03:57 PM) Oh hey there Congrats! Mine is less than 3 months away, almost crunch time!
  23. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) So, Wise, Johnson, Flowers, Hudson, and Lopez will be in the lineup I would guess. Wise rf Hudson 2b Dunn 1b Johnson dh Tank lf Alexei ss Danks cf Flowers c Olmedo 3b
  24. I would be shocked if Cabrera didn't win. The combination of the Triple Crown, Tigers making the playoffs, and the Angels getting eliminated (despite winning more games than DET) will clinch it for Cabrera. I don't trust the writers enough to look past those things.
