  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) No one has said he's an ace. His salary is irrelevant. He had major surgery. Most on this board, even the people complaining about him would have to admit he's exceeded their expectations. Then why is everyone disagreeing with my thread title for? I disagree that salary is irrelevant. It has hamstrung the Sox from signing other players, so the closer he produces to his value, the better. He has had an outstanding season and has been a big part of the Sox success. Except for when he has faced Detroit, which is frustrating as hell. And for someone who hypes up his own attitude & desire, how about you beat your teams biggest rival when it matters? Don't just keep the Sox offense in the game, how about you once win the game despite the offense?
  3. Every time I have driven to a Hawks game the last 4 years, I have taken that stretch of Lake to/from the stadium. (Obviously I never walked it)
  4. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) If you don't think Verlander's last two starts weren't "big games" when his team is trying desperately to fight its way into first place, regardless of the opponent not being the Sox, you have a serious double-standard. Verlander choked in both. And in his other 5 starts he averaged 7.2 IP with 1.4 ER per start, including a Sunday night lockdown of the 1st place White Sox. I never said I expected a pitcher to be perfect or to never lose a start. I just ask that my highest paid pitcher, who is hyped up as a competitior that brings 120% every start, has an ace-like performance in a must-win game once in a while. Not just a nearly quality start.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) With cash hanging out of your pockets. Wearing your Sox hat tilted to the left side.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 01:08 PM) Verlander is supposedly an ace. His team is in second place. Getting lit up like J4L on a Friday night certainly isn't ace-like. Any pitcher who is not in first place with a 1.00 ERA is not an ace. You win.
  7. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 12:52 PM) FIRST PLACE WHITE SOX. Let us hope that we aren't sharing this with the TieDyers after today. I ain't no hippy, I am a White Sox capitalist.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) Conveniently you left off his recent starts against KC and the Angels where he allowed 14 runs in 11.2 innings. That, plus his over 5.50 postseason ERA confirms by Soxtalk standards he's not an ace. Even last year, in 4 postseason starts he went 20 innings and gave up 12 runs which is 4 starts of 5 innings 3 runs, exactly what everyone is so all over Peavy about. Certainly not ace-like. JVINAA What do those starts have to do with anything? I want Jake Peavy to once, in a big game, shut the opponent down. Just once.
  9. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) Finally some common sense on the issue. Fox's Ralph Peters On Libya Attack: "They Kill Four Of Ours, You Kill 400 Of Theirs" I say why stop at 400, why not make it 4000. It's the American Way!!!
  10. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) The Shane Victorino move in particular Who has been Victorino's replacement? When he was in Philly, he wasn't playing very well at all, looked like his age had caught up with him.
  11. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) Brown facing his on team this week I see, I think they wouldn't wanna hit him that hard so he could get a ton of YAC yards lol...Id with Brown, the Indy version. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 11:45 AM) Antonio Brown will struggle to score against his own defense, so go Michael Turner. Donald Brown is teh suck. I don't know, the Steelers pass D struggled vs. Peyton, I think Antonio could fool them.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 11:20 AM) I'm not, I just said no one here says Peavy is an ace considering the surgery he had. Verlander is considered an ace, but the things pointed out that supposedly prove Peavy was never an ace seems very similar to things that could be pointed out about Verlander. So 3 runs tonight, JVINAA. 07/20 vs. CWS: 8 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 2 ER, 6 K 09/02 vs. CWS: 8 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 ER, 11 K He's already done it twice this year, not even looking at his 2011 when he carried his team. And 3 runs isn't bad. Not finishing the 6th inning is a problem IMO. Is it too much to ask Peavy to pitch like that once in a big game? Or I guess it's OK if he has 9 strikeouts and tries really hard.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) Let's preface this by saying, I don't think anyone here claims post surgery, Jake Peavy is an ace, but considering his recent starts and his career 5.57 post season ERA, if Justin Verlander gives up 3 runs tonight, its obvious using Soxtalk standards, JVINNA. Comparing Peavy to Verlander, well done.
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 10:57 AM) Unless they skip a start for Porcello or Fister and go to Scherzer on normal rest. Either way we'd take our chances. I'd much rather face Verlander than Scherzer right now.
  15. Pick a Flex starter please: Michael Turner vs. DEN Donald Brown vs. MIN Antonio Brown vs. NYJ
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 13, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) There's a good argument to be had about whether he's a 1 or not, especially for those that believe that not every staff has a "true" 1. He's easily a number 2 this year, he's been one of the best starters in baseball. You can speculate about whether it will last, but he's been immensely valuable this season. Except for when he's facing Detroit, his team's competition for a playoff spot. Judging from the responses in this thread, I guess my standards for a $17 million pitcher are higher than everyone else's. When he can't even deliver a quality start in the most important game of the season, I think that's s***ty. And he has sucked in most big games in the past, but everyone else seems to think that's OK, to each their own I guess.
  17. Please win so I don't have to avoid Soxtalk all weekend.

  19. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 11:05 PM) Also, thought I'd share this. It's a fantasy football trade value chart. Pretty cool concept... http://fantasynews.cbssports.com/fantasyfo...ade-value-chart Awesome dude, thanks.
  20. After games on September 12th: White Sox: 20 (20 games left) Tigers: 22 (20 games left) THU: DET (Verlander) @ CWS (Sale) 7:10
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) Wait, who's the anti-semite? Delmon Young
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) Anyone else getting the feeling Coop doesn't like Liriano? Or he just doesn't like pitchers who don't throw strikes
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) Wonder why ADA and Weezy swapped LF and CF? QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) That can't be right... I find that weird too, but the scorecards that Merkin & Gonzales posted say, De Aza - 7 and Wise - 8
