  2. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 02:47 PM) In all honesty, the Sox wouldnt be playing meaningful games right now if not for Peavy anchoring the staff the first half of the season. Had the offense not s*** the bed 4 or 5 of his starts, he could have 16 wins and not 10. From my 10,000 foot view as a Sox fan in the rural south.... 1) Jake Peavy is no longer an ace. I think that much is clear. However, that doesn't mean he can't or shouldn't be counted on for a lock down start when its needed. 2) Last night was on the offense. They weren't putting in good ABs and Peavy was probably well aware he had to be perfect if the Sox wanted the win. 3) Ventura had to over-manage the game to compensate and the bullpen gave up 3 runs by the time the Sox started scoring non-HR runs. Let's get em tonight. When has he provided a lock down start when it was needed? It sure as hell hasn't happened against Detroit the past few weeks. I know he has been a huge part of the success this season. But for all the talk about how you need a "competitor" on the mound, he has yet to shut a team down when on the biggest stage, and that's going back to San Diego.
  3. The schedule was a bit confusing until I remembered that the Astros had moved to the AL.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 02:05 PM) I'm sorry, but a team that sucked that bad for that long in the first half shouldn't be in the playoffs. The NL is such a joke. This is the one year I really hope the Braves win that game to get the four best teams in the playoffs. Even the Pirates...it would be cool, but they suck. As opposed to the Dodgers, Pirates, & Cardinals who are sucking that bad for that long in the second half???
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 02:52 AM) Either one would be just ridiculous. Then all of a sudden you have a hot playoff team with Halladay/Hamels/Lee leading off the rotation. Watch out now.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 11:23 AM) Ack...can you please get rid of this? I'm kind of against cruelty to actual animals. Seconded.
  7. The biggest surprise from this ACC move: The U is a top 50 academic school
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) Who is Karen Lewis? Rahm Emanuel's worst nightmare
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 09:48 AM) Wait, Al Qaeda? I heard Karen Lewis did it.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:54 AM) I've been saying forever the Sox need at least a 3 game lead when the Tigers series is over. Since 3 isn't possible, it's going to have to be 4. These next two games, in my opinion, are must-win games. And if you don't think both are must-win, but also don't think the Sox can beat Verlander, then this game tonight is definitely a must-win game. I think the Sox have a way better chance of winning Thursday than on Wednesday.
  11. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 07:02 AM) He gave up 3 runs? He struck out 9. He probably could've finished the inning. He made one bad pitch. You don't think our offense not being able to hit anymore when runners are aboard or the fact that no one is bunting on this team to take advantage of Cabrera's s***ty defense is a bigger reason? Or how about this burnt out, gas can bullpen? Poor execution thread starter. You mention the burnt out, gas can bullpen, while your $17 million starter can't even finish the 6th inning? He forced them to get 10 outs, since he had already thrown 117 pitches. The offense deserves blame too, but excuse me if I would like to see Peavy outpitch the other team's starter in a clutch game.
  12. After games on September 11th: White Sox: 20 (21 games left) Tigers: 24 (21 games left) WED: DET (Scherzer) @ CWS (Floyd) 7:10
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 02:19 AM) You're not an ace. Oh, and I have no problem with Peavy tonight. He gave up 3 f***ing runs and struck out 9 guys among those 17 outs. The only person who deserves blame tonight is Robin Ventura. Only 17 outs. He couldn't even make it out of the f***ing 6th inning.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) Nice Brian Anderson/Greatest American Hero Bobblehead I know, I know...just looks like him, or David Letterman, not sure. The outfit is what makes the bobblehead
  15. The Phillies & Brewers are both only 4.5 games out of a wild card spot
  16. Not only is Jake Peavy not an ace, but I am sick and tired of hearing about this competitive "bulldog" bulls***. With two different franchises, he has proven that he will s*** the bed if you pitch him in a big game. 2005 NLDS: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 3 BB, 8 ER 2006 NLDS: 5.1 IP, 11 H, 1 BB, 5 ER 2007 "Game 163": 6.1 IP, 10 H, 4 BB, 6 ER 7/26/11 vs. DET: 6 IP, 10 H, 1 BB, 4 ER 7/20/12 vs. DET: 7 IP, 8 H, 0 BB, 4 ER 8/31/12 vs. DET: 6 IP, 9 H, 4 BB, 6 ER 9/11/12 vs. DET: 5.2 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 ER And that doesn't include the 6-0 lead he blew against DET this May either. Maybe he gets too pumped up for big games, but Peavy is absolutely not to be trusted in a big game.
  17. Just got home from the game. While Robin did have an awful game with the Liriano/Youk decisions, I would like to add that Leyland had just as bad of a game managing, but he was lucky enough to win. 1. He had Dirks bunt, which took the bat out of Cabrera's hands, which set up the Fielder/Veal matchup. I called it from the second Dirks squared up. 2. Why take out Fister after only 99 pitches ofpur e domination? Tigers won, so no one cares, but he had some head scratchers too. This post in no way absolves Robin of the Youkilis bunting call. Awful, awful, awful, no matter how you look at it.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 03:15 PM) I don't know, but, I don't think it is a big deal to move him 2 spots. Not like you are turning him into a leadoff hitter. It shouldn't be a big deal, but Rios has shown in the past that small stuff can bother him. He is carrying your team right now and finally earning his contract, if not above its value. I would not move him at all.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) Stop playing Viciedo against a righty! If the Sox make the playoffs & Dunn is healthy and DHing, would you platoon Wise & Tank in left?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 02:52 PM) last years Pirates had a pretty epic collapse IIRC. Tied for 1st on July 25th with a 53-47 record. The next day they lost that 19-inning game, I believe there was a bad call at the end. Ended the year 72-90, 24 games out of first.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) Don't you see? Everyone who is not a teacher clocks out at exactly 40:00 hours per week! And they all take super crazy long lunches paid for by their employer! And they never, ever even think of work when outside the office! And there are always strippers and cocaine freely available. And they post on Soxtalk while snorting cocaine off a strippers body. That's how much free time they have during the day!!!
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) I've fallen in love with the Oregon program over the last few years. As someone with no real college allegiance, I decided to dedicate myself to full-out Duckness this season. I apologize in advance for annoying all of you this season with my front-running. Fight On!!!

  24. Sophomore year in college. Woke up with a hangover to my roommate coming back from class, telling me to turn on the TV, it was like whoa. I had a physics lecture so I had to leave, got a ride with my friend. I had cut open my knee playing softball that weekend, so I was walking with a limp and couldn't bend my knee at all. The lecture hall at Loomis is full of tiny seats, and there were no open aisle seats in back for me to keep my leg straight. Combining that with my hangover and the thoughts of what was going in New York, I just walked right out of my class and bussed it home. We spent the rest of the day in the main room of the frat house watching all the details unfold in disbelief.
