  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) Honestly, it's because I'll be shocked if we get through the next 5+ weeks without Sale having another tired arm/89 mph fastball day. I agree. It will suck to have Santiago/Humber start a game instead of him, but that's reality. At least he'll be available for a potential postseason, unlike that guy in DC.
  2. Heading to Vegas at the end of next month for my 30th. Have never been there for a full weekend during football season, so excited to spend some time in the sportsbook for that.
  3. Tigers are gonna go 1-2 vs. LAA this weekend, just a heads up
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Of course...they are so tough to beat at home. They played pretty awful and still swept the Blue Jays. They have played one more game at home than the Sox and only have two more home wins. Since the brutal start to the season, Sox have played .667 baseball at home.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) I'm worried about the Sox getting to 91 wins. And in Detroit they are saying "I'm worried about the Tigers getting to 91 wins."
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 02:44 PM) Is it true that coming into last night's game, 10 of the last 12 hits Benoit had allowed were homers? Wow, 10 of his last 14 had been homers, and there was a stretch of 10 out of 12 in there. Three times he gave up 2 homers in one appearance.
  7. Retire Infante & Santiago, so Prince comes up in the 9th with NO ONE on base
  8. Do it again Encarnacion! You are our only hope...
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) I wonder what the odds would have been on a Verlander no-hitter today? I'll be shocked if Toronto gets more than 4 hits today, their lineup is worse than a split-squad spring training lineup. Your only real concerns are Encarnacion or Rajai Davis legging out an infield hit. Rasmus had a small injury flare up and is 0 for his last 26, and I believe 3 for his last 40 with 3 singles.
  10. Ramon Santiago just took over for MCab at 3rd in the 2nd inning...

  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) DKnobler ‏@DKnobler Fister will miss another start for Tigers. Team announces Smyly will start Saturday vs. Angels Come on Anaheim. You miss Verlander & Fister. Win that damn series. (Although Pujols left the game yesterday w/ a calf strain)
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 10:06 AM) I agree, but the teams do have to be a part of the solution here. If SF knew about this and sat on this since before the AS break, they got a month and a half of production from a juicer, and it most likely impacted the division race significantly. I was reading that Cabrera was pretty much responsible for destroying Arizona by himself. I actually think the minimum salary idea is a good one. Unless the team is supplying him the drugs, I don't know see why the whole team and other "clean" players should all be punished. They already are at a disadvantage because this "MVP" player they had is now gone and they have to replace him. Even if the team knew he was gonna get suspended for a month, it's not on them to bench him, it's on the league to get him off the roster earlier. I also agree about the salary stuff. Make it less worthwile financially for a player to juice.
  14. QUOTE (zenryan @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 10:41 PM) I heard some guy on the radio say teams should be punished for guys who are caught. He hinted at forfeiting which is dumb but I was thinking maybe that the team cant replace the guy on the 25 man roster. So for 50 games the team has to play with 24 guys. That sounds like an absolutely awful idea.
  15. Peru, IL native & NW grad J.A. Happ takes the mound vs. some guy named Verlander today at 12:05 PM. Let's Go Blue Jays!!!!
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) Predictably, the Royals dropped 2 of 3 to Tampa. It's automatic that good teams beat them 2 of 3 minimum. Automatic. Just like a week ago when KC won 2 of 3 from Oakland. Just like in June when KC swept a 3-game series vs. Tampa. Just like in May when KC swept a two-game series in Texas. That doesn't even count the 4-game splits with Baltimore & the Yankees. Automatic!
  17. The real question is: Would Badger even care about this if Russell Wilson had never transferred to Wisconsin?
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) They werent going to make a serious offer to him after Miami's. I dont fault him at all, in fact I know firsthand that he was heartbroken to leave the Sox. I understand the particulars of the situation and can't blame him, but there is one thing that bothered me. Thinking back to everything that Mark ever said or other people said about him, chasing the money from a mediocre team who is a 50/50 bet to trade you doesn't sound like him at all. it was always about the baseball, about his family, about being comfortable, and this decision was the complete opposite. He doesn't owe Sox fans a damn thing, just like the fans don't owe him, but I just thought it was very surprising and a bit hypocritical.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) I'd run all of our call ups out there. Why not, it isn't like they would do worse. Can any of the pitchers hit???
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 12:28 PM) & shouldn't. Agreed 100%. My point being that while the Sox didn't technically offer him a contract, it's not like Mark had no say in the matter. While he wanted to stay with the Sox, once Miami offered those mega bucks, he couldn't say no. If the Sox had offered him the best possible contract they could, I doubt he stays in Chicago anyway.
  21. Per Jon Heyman, 50-game suspension coming.
  22. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 11:46 AM) Unless the Tigers adjust their rotation by skipping a starter on their August 27 off day, the Sox will miss Verlander in the first series. If they don't make any adjustments in the offdays they have after that series on September 6, he will also miss the second series. Or, if they don't skip, he will have to pitch on 3 day's rest. I can't imagine that Leyland is that dumb not to get Verlander into each series. He has been beyond dominant against the White Sox. They already skipped Sanchez once to let Fister pitch (when he blew that 5-0 lead to BAL ). I could see them skipping Sanchez next Tuesday, then having Verlander pitch Tuesday, then Sunday vs. the Sox on Sunday night baseball.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 10:47 AM) Well, except he didn't want to leave the team... He came back to the Sox and asked them to make him an offer. Jerry told him to go to Miami. Because the Sox couldn't & wouldn't offer anywhere near the amount of money that Miami did. Mark wasn't gonna accept the much lower offer from the Sox, it was time to get paid.
