  1. They have one guy left in their lineup who can hit and you walk 2 guys in front of him. Come on Jake.
  2. What is it about this park that makes the Sox unable to hit a baseball?
  3. QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) I don't call it meaningless. I do this for a living. Have been since 95. Vegas is banking on the Sox losing tonight. Trust me. They may be wrong, but I doubt it. That stat right there tells you why. 4-16 in their last 20 games in this park.
  4. Davis LF Johnson 2b Encarnacion dh Cooper 1b Escobar ss Sierra rf Omar 3b Mathis c Gose cf To add to Toronto's previously discussed injury woes, Colby Rasmus is missing his 3rd straight game with an injury.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) Another shooting spree, this time at Texas A&M. No word yet on injuries or fatalities, but the shooter is in custody. KBTX confirms one law enforcement official dead and at least six others with injuries. Update: Local police confirm that one civilian dead in addition to one law enforcement official. From what I have read, it doesn't appear to be a random shooting spree like Va Tech or the Batman movie. 3 dead now, a constable, a civilian, and the shooter.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) 1.) Robin will understand? Nobody wants to get fired. He could tire of the job and quit maybe, but I can't see him ever getting fired. Not after proving he can do the job. If the Sox suck in the future, other heads will roll before Robin IMO. 2.) I don't know if the media would run him out. If the team starts to suck again I'd think the media would go after Kenny. 1. No one wants to get fired, but in pro sports you get hired to be fired. If his team consistenly sucks, I don't think Robin would hold a grudge if JR were to fire him. The Sox relationship ending with Ozzie wasn't strictly based on the off the field stuff. His teams made the playoffs once in six years. Even a WS title in Chicago doesn't buy you a lifetime managerial/GM pass. 2. Right now, I agree with that. But if the team keeps sucking with a new GM, the manager would be next to go.
  7. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 02:07 PM) you would think if he sued, the box would be completely opened and there would be a whole lot of revealed transcripts and improprieties Peppers wouldn't have much to lose there. Even if he cheated the NCAA somehow in college, those aren't crimes, so it wouldn't affect him. UNC could get in even more trouble though.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) Can you picture a scenario in which the White Sox ever replace Robin Ventura? He's proven he's not a buffoon and knows how to manage, which is not rocket science. He's already proven he's as good as anybody they could get nowadays. He is the opposite of Ozzie mouth-wise, so he'll never get himself fired. That leaves him stepping down some day on his own. I would assume he's set for life financially five times over, so I guess he could tire of the grind. If he truly loves baseball, I think he's our manager the next 25 years. How can the Sox ever fire Robin Ventura? That can't happen cause of his name and history with the franchise. If the team sucks for a few seasons, he can absolutely get fired. It's part of the business, fans & Robin will understand and it won't be taken personally. It happened to Ditka, Dennis Savard. In New York, Joe Torre was not re-signed, despite being beloved by the fan base and winning all those titles. From Robin's point of view, I think he could easily get tired of the grind, especially as he gets older. It's one thing to love baseball, it's another to travel with the team for 8 months a year, dealing with the media and players and management everyday, it can wear on him.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 12:49 PM) I believe it is called Awesome Sauce I think AJ discovered the Awesome Sauce this past offseason as well.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) Wasnt Daley already out of office when the bidding was finalized? The host announcement was on October 2, 2009. Daley didn't leave office until May 2011.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) There were a few ugh moments, such as the Spice Girls and the Bee Gees knock-off, but holy s*** does GB own the planet when it comes to music. When the mayor of Rio was up there with the flag, I couldn't help but chuckle imagining Daley up there, had Chicago won the bid. (You know he wouldn't have retired if they had won the bid)
  12. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 06:47 PM) You don't really have to! ;-) How close? Have they ever made you eat Surstromming? If not, you should demand that they do. My dad's brother and his family, so very close, but I haven't made out there in over 10 years. I have never tried Surstromming. I actually eat herring from time to time (since I'm Polish), but that stuff lookes pretty nasty. Especially this quote from Wikipedia; "A Japanese study has shown that the smell of a newly opened can of surströmming is the most putrid smell of food in the world, beating similar fermented fish dishes such as the Korean Hongeohoe or Japanese Kusaya"
  13. Miguel Cabrera had a 1.086 OPS in July, 1.079 so far in August. In the last 4 seasons, he has played 160, 160, 150, 161 games. Prince Fielder has a 1.263 OPS so far in August. Since 2006, he has played in 157, 158, 159, 162, 161, 162 games. Both of those players are on fire right now, have a history of playing every single day, and have been extremely consistent month-to-month throught their careers. Unfortunately, I don't see them burning out at all.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:38 AM) Probably just wants to spend a weekend home with his younger skinny blonde wife I bet he wooed her with the PlayGirl profile
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:36 AM) Right now the longest tenured Mgr in baseball was hired in 2004. In baseball history, Connie Mack made it 50 years with one franchise, and is the only one to make it that long with one group. In baseball history only 9 guys have managed a total of 25 years, let alone with one team. And it's much harder to be a manager nowadays with all of the media scrutiny around and the internet allows fans to debate for days the merits of the team's 4th OF.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) And almost as important... WIMPY IS BACK! Stoney forgot to renew his passport?
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2012 -> 11:17 PM) Seems like he'd be a natural. A lot of times he looks in the dugout if a pitcher has completely lost it. Seems like he'd have a good feel. It's amazing when you talk about managing. Ventura has done well enough this year that he's assured a 20-year tenure with the Sox if he wants it. What is Robin, 45? He's proven he can manage. With his personality, he's NEVER going to get in trouble with anybody (owners or players) so he's set. He could be a White Sox legend. If he can win one or two WS in 25 years and eight division titles, he'll be a living White Sox legend. Question is ... can he do that? Let's say he's our skipper the next 25 years. Can he win 2 WS and eight division titles? I'd say maybe one WS. Two might be difficult. How many managers in all of baseball have even managed one team for 25 years?
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2012 -> 10:00 PM) True. This road trip on paper promises to be a bad one. Toronto usually handles the White Sox and the Royals play good baseball against just one team: The White Sox. I'd say KC wins 2 of 3 again (one win is about all we can expect; KC is so bad you'd think we will be able to get the one victory and avoid what would be a devastating sweep). The key is to split the four-gamer with Toronto. If that happens, the Sox go 3-4 in the next two series. Not great, but I don't see any better record than that and a worse record than that is entirely possible. They should send you into the locker room to motivate the team!
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 08:01 AM) I will say one thing. Great Britain can put on an unmatched rock concert. I hate all the opening/closing ceremony BS, but I have to admit I enjoyed that show last night.
  20. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 07:06 AM) Olympic soccer medals: North America 3 Asia 2 South America 1 Europe 0 How about that? In the last 5 Olympics, Europe has 2 medals in men's soccer, which shows how important the tournament is.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 12, 2012 -> 05:51 PM) Good to pick up a game on the tigers going into their respective series. Detroit is heading to Minnesota, and they could easily sweep them. Hopefully Anibal Sanchez continues his bad pitching and the Twins offense can do some damage. Detroit is only 5-4 this season vs. the Twins. Just sayin'
